FL-GO wrote: Fri Apr 01, 2022 11:31 am Gave it a listen. Main issue I continue to have is the lack of accountability from the coaching staff. Just keeps deflecting and talking about the players and having to "execute [better/more]". Saying a GK not playing well is a "bummer" and "not protected" when Bryant scored 5 goals to the exact same spot shows a disconnection, in my opinion. Holtby stays in or comes back in when the run starts, and that's a win. Period.

On a lighter note, the new team bus looks pretty amazing so credit the Elder Statesmen who raised funds to get Hobart lax (and by extension other Statesmen teams) this really great bus.

Love the bus; hate that they wanted "lacrosse" removed...

Time for the Statesmen to show they belong, FMU 'bart!
The Lehigh game was a pleasant surprise; SHU the opposite. This w/e, on the road, against a mid-season 1st team AA fogo...need another surprise otherwise it's 2-5 heading into 4 very "winnable" games.

Listen to the podcast it doesn’t sound like the goalie experiment is over. Like any GK , Holtby has had some tough spots the past two seasons , but he certainly was not the problem this losing streak. Shea handled Sisselberger hopefully he is up for the task with the SJU FO specialist

Ok, I listened to the podcast. I'm really disappointed that Raymond didn't point at himself/ at least in part for the loss. He pointed everywhere else and went a little overboard protecting our second half goalie. Holtby had a very good first half and the switch made no sense to me as I sat in the stands( giving up 3 goals to Bryant in the first half was not too shabby) . Although that wasn't our only issue as both teams had sloppy patches in the game. I was also disappointed that Raymond said he's going to stay off the internet and saying the detractors don't understand us. Stand up , take the heat, and if he did that on the podcast I'd give him credit . I'm still going to root like hell for the boys, but leadership is also about taking the heat and facing the music.

I listened to the podcast. I actually see Raymond's point about the goalie. If someone is playing well all week, week after week, how can you not play him in the game? It would undercut the ethos of competition on the team. Sotiropolos had a bad outing (and the D did allow some point blank shots from their best players), but you can't pull someone immediately: in for an inch, in for a mile. Last year we did well with 2 FOGOs, and Shea and Blanchard pushed each other to get better. Holtby's been good, but no one should own a position. Now, if Sotiropolos gets hammered again, and it starts to feel like the pressure of the game is the problem, then you've got to sit him until he can be in a game that is out of reach already. But I don't think you can know that after one half.
What I enjoyed hearing was when he said the offence got stale. They did. And against SHU too. And when he talked about the D letting guys in close to shoot ... that was true too. Bryant is not good enough to shoot at 50% unless they are allowed to take damned good shots.
The 1-7 prediction was scary, but at 2-5 it feels like it was spot on. I think this team has the talent to surprise St. Joes, but I don't know if they can connect the dots for 4 quarters in a row.

Sorry LG, I disagree. LS should have been pulled after Q#. 5 shots to the exact same spot and the GK doesn't figure it out?/ Yes the D definitely could have played better. But when you flop on 4 out of the first 6 shots you face, even if you make the initial save, you are out of position if there is a rebound. That is basic goal tending. Now basic offense is another story. Being able to execute at this level is what one would expect. We'll see tomorrow. BTW, as good as SJU's Cole is, he hasn't faced the level of competition Shea has imho.. No one on the 9 teams the Hawks have played is as good as Sisselberger, Phaup or Petrakis. Hope Shea and crew prove me correct. LFG Bart!!

Sorry LG , I’m going with oldbartman on this one , you’ve got to get behind your GK . If Lukas was playing so well , then give him the start. This is D1 lacrosse best guys play on Saturday everyone else watches.
If you asked the coaching staff before the game if they would be happy with holding Bryant to 3 goals for the first half , they would have undoubtedly said yes .
If they had given up 7-9 then fine , stick with your plan and change GK. But 3 ?
If it ain’t broke dont fix it.
Totally on the coaches and they should own it.
There is no comparison platooning FOGO’s and GK’s
Raymond and Turri played a lot of head games with Sam despite him playing well constantly threatening to and sometimes using CJ White …
Not good
The boys have a huge challenge with a lot on the line this weekend, let’s hope they get after it for all 4 quarters
Thankfully we don’t have to worry about RMU anymore!!
Go Statesmen

This makes sense to me. If you are better than someone in practice for a few weeks, you earn the start. if you are not seeing the ball, then they pull you at half -- happens all of the time. Then you fight it out in practice again. So what I should have said is that I can see playing Loukas and, even if it isn't going well, leaving him in for a half (rather than switching and then switching back). But if he earned the spot, it should have been the first half.
The real headscratcher is the combination of giving Holtby the start (because he earned it), and then switching when he only lets in 3.
I'm going to assume we see Holtby today. He played a good half last week, so I hope he walks in with confidence. If we are up at the half and then we change goalies again .... that would really suck.

And apply the same patience to all players not let a FR/Soph in for a run early in a season, heave then make a wrong pass or cut and then yank him for 8 weeks while knowing he’s going to be an important key in future years when others matriculate out abs have to absorb those game earned learning experiences and mistakes in a future season.

Hobart got off to a good start and then disappeared in the second half. What the heck happened?

This isn’t 2018, this looks like a TW year not named 2009. Forced bad interior passes that become TOs, panicking and taking bad outside shots, weak off ball movement, losing backups, making bad penalty mistakes, getting pushed around and giving up constant last second in period scores over and over. This is 2010-2013 vintage stuff. Regression to the worst lacrosse hobart has played in its D1 era. I was ready to excuse between losing Knox, injuries and throw in losing Durkin and Adam Bland who may be starting if he had come to Geneva instead of going pro. But these are fundamental problems now

Agree FFG. Dead quarter. D stinks. I'd give these guys a chance for 5 minutes, then start making subs. Loukas for Holtby. Switch in Ward for Mott. Get runs by Delano, Considine, Delany. Give Shea a breather now and again. What is there to lose?

Completely shut out on one end of field. All 11 goals so far on one end

Stale again in Q 4. The run was great, but let's be honest ... quarter 4 is another offensive dud.

Great effort to get within 1, but dumb clearing mistakes and a foolish slashing penalty iced the game. Archer did a lot of positive things, goalie played well, need some others to step up consistently vs flashes here-and-there.. time to rip off 4 in a row.

Definitely a dud in the fourth quarter, but I think that if we get another crack at these guys or at Bryant, who knows? If we run the table the rest of the way we'll be in the tournament. But running the table won't be easy. Start with Wagner.

Yup. I don't think St. Joes is as good at the score or the 50% shooting average. We have D trouble and O trouble. The D trouble is comprehensive, including goalie. 10 points in a half won't take us anywhere, and 16 in a game is no good either. On O we just go cold playing settled ball.
On to Wagner ....

What stood out to me today was St. Joe's bigger body offensive players were just pushing our D around. Their middie #63 just ran to the center of the field and put in 3 from up top. No one budged him. Basically, our D got bullied. Cole was good as expected. Shea made some adjustments and gave us some hope. But it's tough to come back from 6 goals down. A couple of positives... Archer played a fairly complete game today. He rode well and snagged/stole a pass, backed up on shots. Good play. Simas has improved his decision making and didn't make dumb mistakes. Unfortunately, Mott and Herlihy are in a bit of a shooting slump. The opposition has figured out they need to pay a lot more attention to them. Hopefully Bach and some others can pick up the scoring slack. Wagner is playing a LOT better than I've ever seen. They will be looking to punch us in the face at home.

Punched in the face? Wagner is smelling blood like the Lannisters did and we’re Robb Stark trying to get our freak on, er, married.
