The original was owned for a long time by Bill Brine, Sr. Sometime after 9/11, Mr. Brine conveyed it to Eamon's widow Bonnie.
Nice, glad to see you have such a meaningful memento of those days.

What I recall is, that Dartmouth team was a machine.
28-0 in front of 42,000 fans. Philadelphia Eagles played there last season there in 1970. 1955-70 it was Eagles home field.
I recall also that quarterback, he was like a general on the field,
We had a great view of that Dartmouth squad marching down the
field, the QB barking - that was the definition of
matriculating down the field.

My absolutely last post on this thread drift (apologies you fine Big Red folks!!!) but has multiple insightful quotes from Cornell great Ed Marinaro - which tells about that era, Coach Blackman's process, and that team you saw marching down the field.

He had his halcyon days at Dartmouth - 1955-70 Then got tapped to coach Big Ten football at Illinois which was mid level success. Late 70's back to the Ivy's at Cornell. There is an article somewhere talking about Dartmouth football in the 60's and early 70's under Blackman being "the Boise State" of that era. When the 1970 Big Green went undefeated 9-0 and smoked all comers with a defense that shut out 6 teams and a dynamic "O" that put up big numbers, Joe Paterno at Penn State bitched about Dartmouth winning the Lambert Trophy, signifying football supremacy in the east. He challenged Dartmouth to play a game, and Blackman replied by saying Ivy League teams were not allowed to, but if they were he'd select an opponent with a better record than Penn State's 7-3. Dartmouth ended up the year ranked 14th in both major polls, the last time an Ivy League football team has been ranked. That year's 10-0 win at Yale was called by one sportswriter as "the most lopsided 10-0 victory in football history".

Okay...enough thread drift!
This kind of sh/t is why I love this forum...

Great read, and that edition also carries a story about the "Fifth Down" game.

I believe #26 is Gary Malm one of the tri captains in '77. For JHU #7 in Michael O'Neil, guessing that 34 is Greenberg and 9 is DeSimone. Neiman's artistic license is exhibited as the stick lengths are not accurate and depicts more of a moving mural than an actual moment in time during the game.
Bringing in a beer barrel? That atmosphere no longer exists in today's game, you're lucky to sneak a couple of sips from a Solo Cup in the parking lot.
#34 is actually Mike Connor. Greenberg was 44.
I have my copy signed by all and hangs in my office. Some signatures are fading, but still recognizable.

Get this puppy back on page one with some kick-ass (for a change) game notes. Finally reverted to the old formatting and corrected some of the irritating, er, factual inconsistencies from earlier in the season (like their insistence that this was Connor Buczek's 4th season as head coach, etc). A much-welcomed return to form...

This will be a test for the Big Red. I am hopeful. From an "eyeball" view, I think that Cornell might be a bit better than Penn. Cornell has the home field advantage with Schoellkopf. PSU brings a lot of skill and solid coaching. Also, with PSU's wins against both Yale and Penn, they will have some confidence going into the game.

I completely agree. Cornell is a lot more balanced team than Penn. Cornell is better in the middle of the field on riding, loose balls and clears. I would expect Cornell to take care of business tomorrow against a feisty Penn State squad. Maybe a 13-10 win for the Big Red?

Massey gives Cornell a win probability of 70%, with a most-likely score of 14-11:

I think Mike Long will be playing tomorrow. If so, it will be interesting to see where Billy Coyle plays.

That would be great!

I would leave Coyle at attack, but no one pays me to coach D1 lax ... ;)

Just a complete guess, but if Mike plays, I'm guessing the attack will be Long, Piatelli & Kirst and 1st line mids will be Coyle, Blake & Kelleher.

I'd guess Buczek wants to try something to energize first line middies who seem to have been underperforming expectations. Putting Coyle back or inserting Lombardi might do that.

For anyone interested, the Cornell Men's Basketball team takes on Yale this morning at 11AM on ESPNU in the semi-finals of the Ivy League tourney. Watch the first half, then switch to lacrosse. GO BIG RED!

I simply don’t get what Penn State is doing exactly.

Tambroni must have made a deal with the devil.

Congratulations to PSU. So sound— always back up shots, play great together, finish their opportunities— and goalie played great, as did Ierlan. We had too many turnovers and o players ineffective— Blake, Wirtheim, Sheehan, Piatelli, for example. Blake does not look healthy, physically or in his head. One bright spot:Box looks like he can be a solid 4th short stick. Lost to a better team today. Hopefully Long will return and give us more balance on o.

Congratulations to PENN STATE as they played a great game today and had a great defensive plan against Cornell. It's not easy to come into Schoellkopf and beat Cornell the way they did.
Penn State is obviously for real this year and have dominated their Ivy opponents. Coach Tambroni deserves a great deal of credit for getting this team back to National prominence.
The Big Red I'm sure will regroup and be ready for a really tough Yale team who had a great win vs. Denver.
4-1 going into league play with the only loss to a top 10 team still bodes well for the rest of the season.
