I agree with you, somewhat. The problem lies with the Democratic Party whose silence is a tacit approval of throwing things at cops and worse. If the Portland yo-yo's successfully doxx the police, all bets off.
First things first, how about some major national Democrats coming out and decrying the violence and mayhem? How about them taking ownership of their band of jackbooted thugs marauding through Portland and Seattle every night? If the anarchy would end, there'd be no need for federal law enforcement. Nancy all but approved of the mayhem the other day by saying 'some people will do things' and not openly saying anything negative about Antifa, the paramilitary arm of the Democratic party.

In some ways, I am sympathetic to just letting the place burn. In other ways, I am not certain what the federal government should do when it's their property being burned and not everyone approves of the Democratic mayhem.
Just yesterday in Seattle, the Democratic rioters broke into and looted an Amazon store, and burned down a Starbuck's.
It's obviously apparent that Democratic politicians will do nothing to halt the anarchy. Trump is stuck between a rock and a hard place.

… you do realize of course that no one can just say they are a "Federal Agent" or "US Marshall". Its illegal. So if someone tells you they are a "Federal Agent" or "US Marshall" even without identification that means they are that. Its a flawless system. What could possibly go wrong?

Plain clothes police make arrests all the time. They identify themselves verbally & show their badge & ID when asked.
Just because cell ph or news media video are not close enough to show the markings does mean they are unidentified.
Not every LEO or NG soldier in riot gear detains or makes arrests.
