We have some in our pantry. I don't have any particular issue with them, and I'd agree that they are closer to authentic latin foods than what is typically produced as such by "Big Food" but they have many of the same food processing issues as those companies. But there are tons of products and companies which are more authentic to a particular region much less country. These difference truly matter to the palates of the specific sets of consumers, but not so much to our Americanized palates.

I certainly don't have any issue with an immigrant success story, the building of a successful multi-generational, family owned business.

On the other hand, "real American" Petey telling us who is boycotting and leading the boycott of Goya, because of the CEO's comments, is quite rich.

The CEO put a spotlight on himself with those comments. He could have made comments praising the initiative only, but he went into full Trumpist mode of praising Trump himself. Or better yet, he could have recognized that this was a campaign stunt and demurred from appearing at all.

That was a choice.
And then he went on Fox and doubled down, which when his donations are looked at, is really not that surprising. His comments were consistent with his billionaire point of view.

Without that spotlight, no boycott.

The boycott will benefit other latin owned businesses, including their employees.

Yup, there is a Fox Business article a day ago claiming that people are loading up ($10 purchase social media campaign) on Goya in response to the boycott, often by those who've never had the products before (and may not ever actually use them)...not so sure that'll sustain, whereas there may well be sustained brand damage among regular customers.

We'll get a better sense of actual product movement through IRI data etc over the next months and year.

If you're going to get into the political fray, it's very important to be consistent with your brand positioning, else you lose brand credibility going forward. Companies get in trouble with this all the time, sometimes inadvertently, sometimes cluelessly, sometimes quite consciously because of a particular CEO not caring about the cost. This appears to be the latter.

If I’m going to buy either, and I do, then I’m going to buy Wegman’s brand and support local. There’s really nothing else they make that I would choose over another brand and I don’t ever eat those vile Vienna snausages.

We do a lot of chili in our household, so I agree, the beans are where it's at for our usage. Nothing else seems to be in our pantry or regular usage. And, yeah, Wegman's offers a perfectly fine substitute.

and definitely their meat products are pretty nasty.
