Unless those kid's families make under $100,000 per year (not typical for Ivy Lacrosse players) that is a VERY expensive "redshirt"!

Not just the extra year of tuition, but a lost year of income (which I would peg at $100,000 for an average Ivy lacrosse grad - assuming he wants that job) that he will never get back.

And I understand these guys will also never get back that year of playing college lacrosse without deferring. I am just pointing out that kids who did this just paid $200,000 for the privilege of playing lacrosse for one more year.
You are assuming that there was no paid internships for the year. Also, if a player took the year off, they don’t have to pay tuition and room & board to hold a spot. It’s more problematic for kids that withdraw after being in session for the semester. After a 40 year career, not sure anyone is going to lose sleep over deferring the start of their career by a year so they work 39 years instead of 40.
I agree with all you say here - just pointing out that that deferral is a luxury that comes with at least some cost.
Yes. I don’t blame the students that withdrew for the year. If you have a chance to get four years of a regular college experience, why not? Not everyone can do it but if you can, why not? I believe that was a greater motivator for the students that I know than saving it for lacrosse. But withdrawing after sinking a semesters tuition is a different story.

An overweight defenseman that can’t cover, should fit in great with their current personnel.

5th yr, all BE 2nd team w 17CTs and 28Gbs last year and the size necessary to defend the opponents on their schedule unlike Mellon and had more gbs and cts than Wyckoff who’s out now but sure he sucks. Silly. Their D is so depleted the idea he couldn’t help makes little sense. Has been playing against GT and UD for years.

Not sure why you are so down on Owen Prybylski. I've watched a bunch of Nova games and he always seemed to stand out. He had 1 goal, 28 GBs and 17 CTs in just 12 games this year. I think there are a lot of teams that would want a guy like that. My $.02

He can be a little dirty but Cuse needs some of that without it coming with a case...

Otherwise strong player.

Know BB brought in Brad Apgar but love to bring NJ local Prybyiski home to RU. He was high school teammates with Burgdorf . Be a great RU reunion . Stupid comment about being overweight ,Prybyiski is physical and noble as was Kielty, he's established d1 defender who'd help anyone including Cuse but bet BB is pursuing him. Also wish Cuser lsm Kennedy would come home to RU also,, he's terrific but BE wastING his final year there . Would have flourished here last year with Kirst outletting to him. Him and Pryblyiski would be great hi/low tandem. Hope Kirsts are talking to Pry and Khan. Make it happen BB

Im putting the call out there . Be the NJ kid that puts us over the top.

I wonder if colleges that load up on transfers will find good HS recruits harder to come by?
The 2023-2025 high school players/parents I know are paying very close attention to which schools take/start transfers. I have no idea whether a program's history of taking transfers will absolutely dissuade any kids from committing to DU/Duke/etc, but it is certainly a part of the calculus now.
Those players should look at Harvard, Princeton and Dartmouth…..Won’t have to worry about being transferred over.
My scope of attention is quite Yale specific, and that attention leads me to expect a roster of from 50-54 this coming fall for the Bulldogs (5-9 over what has been the norm over the past few years). The result I expect is increased competition for playing time over the next couple of years which should pay dividends once the drawback of a year without team and game experience is overcome. I would also expect a slightly greater number of drop outs from the program than usual by those disappointed in their lack of playing time during that span, but it wouldn't surprise me to see things return to normal shortly thereafter. The reality is that only about 23 players get meaningful minutes in a normal game regardless of roster size. Being displaced by players of superior talent is a reality for any competitive program whether that be through transfers or new recruits, the question being does organic attrition serve team chemistry better than a mercenary transfer mentality. The answer should become apparent over the course of the next couple of years.

Have many players quit over lack of playing time there? I know injuries have led to some attrition but wasn’t sure lack of playing time has been a significant determining factor.

Don’t know how much he would’ve played but know Donald Ahrens had to stop playing because of concussions his FR year. Perhaps a smaller Elsa significant example. He was roommates w Fake for at least 1-2yrs and they are friends I understand.

Difference is we are the new kids on the block. Dont yet have top twenty players knocking down our doors to get in but winning breeds winning .

RU just has to keep it going until they can legitimately sell itself as a top ten lax power especially with NJ players such as Khan. Once we attain that standing then RU wont need the portal.

Right now Virginia can shop anything south of Pennsylvania without any complaints from me. Lol
