W&L lost 4 key players that were unavailable at the end of the season. Brian Barringer, Joey Allen, Colin Beatty and Blair Brennan. Can anyone ascertain if they were able to participate in Fall Ball. They are all on this year’s roster. I’m curious if they recovered and were able to compete

Whats up Generals, excited to be here.. feel smarter already. I usually stick to the NCAC forum and discuss the Big Red but I thought I would pop in since we have a mutual acquaintance, Eric Koch. It seems like the Caravana faithful are turning on him and I want some other thoughts on him before I develop my own opinion on his time at Denison

1). Do you think he is a good coach? I remember when he was at W&L the generals were good but in my opinion they have taken some series steps forward since he departed.

2). Do you think he can ever beat his alma mater? He is 1-2 and the only season he was able to clip the generals was when he inherited a nicely built out Caravana squad

3). Seems like he is not the most social coach in the world, how was he with alumni while at W&L?

Thanks in advance for the answers, always loved the hospitality I experienced when down in Lexington. Good School. Good atmosphere. Good architecture.

p.s. 2-0 against the generals during my two year of D3 lacrosse (stat line: 2gp, 0g, 2a, lots of cheers from the sidelines, witnessed alot of witherell goals)

When your favorite pro and college teams are in disrepair I had to pull this one up https://www.ncaa.com/champs-pass/?B=1085661. W&L / Gulls. Only 117 days until the 2025 season opener.

Game #2 - W&L 7, Newberry 6
W&L up by 4 at one point.
Newberry ranked # 15 in D2 at end of last year.

I happen to be in Lexington for the campaign kickoff event. Was able to catch the middle two qtrs. Thought they looked good.

Was talking to a parent for a while. Apparently W&L was missing about 16-17 guys due to injury and study abroad. Not sure who all was missing (or why) but the parent said several of the starters from last year were unavailable.

No clue about VMI.

i would expect if both teams for full rosters, W&L would win by 6-8 goals

Purpura has not played this game for anything other than to see how his rats play for 4 years now. This won’t change. There is now no player on VMI that has any recollection of what The Generals game once meant.

Assuming most or all the juniors (15) were abroad that’s probably a fairly accurate number. If the 4 players I have mentioned previously who missed the end of last season due to injuries are healthy this team will be a top 10 team again. How adversely does the lack of fall ball affect the jr classes performance in the spring and the overall team. One could argue that it allows for more reps, responsibility to step up, and development of the remaining 75% of the team.

Newberry has a solid Canadian pipeline and has been building a very good program.

Just happened to notice this post. Some teams consider an Elite 8 win in playoffs an incredible accomplishment while others consider a loss in the Elite 8 a major letdown for a season. Everyone has different ways of measuring a successful season. Big difference in philosophy.

Elite 8 win against the reigning champs would get any program buzzing. Not only that, but an overtime winner after being down 7 and having a team that does not give up. Hell, even non-W&L fans were excited after that game. It takes a lot to take down the beast regardless of program philosophy.

Gotta say that I dislike W&L lacrosse just because. But their program has deep roots. The win vs Salisbury was a good one for the current team but does not stack up to several of their historic wins on which the program still leans. The fact that it was an elite eight win doesn’t mean a hill of beans to the team or the program. There is not a year that W&L starts a season without expectations beyond an elite eight win. I would venture to say that the final four loss was a big letdown for them.

Injuries are still plaguing some players so lets hope, by February, it all gets straightened out. Gennies have a chance to repeat last year if everyone is healthy. Noke looks to be very good as well, along with Randy Mac, Lynchburg and H-SC in no particular order.
