What do you call it when a half dozen or more law enforcement officials kill or attempt to kill a citizen in a hail of gun fire, the citizen having not fired a shot or not having a weapon in hand. An accident? Its an execution, unless you are going to tell me the COPS are not following policy. I will bet the COPS all believed they were following police policy, their union will tell you that, their bosses will say they were following policy. In short it was planned. If this then that! They didn't break the law or their own policies. Definition of execution - "the carrying out or putting into effect of a plan, order, or course of action." It's an execution. What do you call it, besides a good days work?

It is a legally sanctioned execution or attempted execution. No trial, no due process, just let the bullets fly execution!

It’s called a justifiable homicide. Happens even to people who have no weapons yet attack police. Being a threat is enough to have it happen, you don’t have to shoot or have the gun in your hand, reaching is enough.

Now go cry me a river over “hands up don’t shoot”. That’s right, you already did over that lie.

Another day, more senseless killings but hey, a wall is a national emergency.

Amazing background story on this incident. https://wtop.com/national/2019/02/auror ... ssion=true

Aurora shooter’s permit was revoked but gun wasn’t seized.
AURORA, Ill. (AP) — An initial background check failed to detect a felony conviction that should have barred the man who killed five co-workers and wounded six other people at a suburban Chicago manufacturing plant from buying the gun.

Months later, a second background check of Gary Martin found his 1995 aggravated assault conviction in Mississippi involving the stabbing of an ex-girlfriend. But it prompted only a letter stating his gun permit had been revoked and ordering him to turn over his firearm to police — raising questions about the state’s enforcement to ensure those who lose their permits also turn over their weapons.
A fraudulent intent, however carefully concealed at the outset, will generally, in the end, betray itself.

Perhaps if all local, state, and federal government entities updated every existing gun law with “we really mean it”, all the bad guys will finally abide by them.

No one on the left is asking what the pressure and mental health problems getting fired from a job entail. Losing health care benefits, no unemployment, no safety net. Blaming others for their own failures, sometimes fairly and sometimes unfairly.

It's a ticking timebomb. Unfortunately very literally sometimes. Economic and public safety nets would curb a lot of these incidents. But nope, it's the gun that did it.

Same on the right. You fund after school programs, health care initiatives and more and you'll do more to preserve 2nd amendment rights than anything else.

A PLAGUE ON BOTH YOUR HOUSES. Sadly a plague on America with no real change in sight.

A 2018 report on police shootings claims 50% are perpetrated on the mentally ill.

Are mental health issues reason to be shot and killed by an employee of the state; a state sanctioned execution. More and more the answer seems to be yes. This is not by accident.

From that article - “Seriously? People are dying because an armed police officer is concerned about the danger a small pocketknife might pose?“

Yeah, what harm could a tiny little thing like a box cutter do?

I don’t know your personal situation jhu, but I have a son on a police department. While there are multiple times each week where he has to prepare to use lethal force (especially if he’s called to a break-in or potential break-in and he needs to clear a building), he’s never had to use that lethality. But I’m very glad he has the ability to use it should somebody, even if they’re mentally ill, come at him with a knife, or worse.

Define mental health and then list out every diagnoses that gets you on the do not sell land remove all guns from this individual list. Additionally, if they have a family that is not ill, are they allowed to own a gun. Damned near impossible task.

So you guys justify the action by the police, just let the police kill them or any other citizen if that is their judgement. You are not alone. The individual COPS (with some exceptions) aren't the problem. Society is sanctioning these ad hoc executions. It is policy.

jhu72, tell us what you want the law enforcement standards of practice to be when confronted with with an unknown person brandishing a firearm? We can then discuss your idea of how it should be vs. the current standards implemented by law enforcement.
