I really think playing in the AAC doesn’t help Florida get ready for the NCAA tourney. They just are not pushed hard enough during the regular season in league play to make a serious run in the post season.Cletus wrote: ↑Sun Jun 27, 2021 6:45 am
The Florida Gators had another season of promise only to fall short in the postseason. They were in the quarterfinal with Syracuse for the first half. Then Syracuse scored the first 5 goals of the 2nd half, and 7 of 8 to put the game out of reach early.
They did avenge the loss to Jacksonville in the 2nd round of the NCAA's. Unfortunately that was the high point of the season for the Gators. They're still not ready for prime time. I wonder what kind of influence Thorpe will have. Do assistant coaches even really ever have influence beyond the head coach? I don't know--I'm asking.
Florida had way more underclass on their roster last year than upper so we'll see if any promising players emerge as '22 unfolds.

I know Trombetta is graduating. Not sure of the other significant senior players who is returning. Shannon Kavanaugh, Brianna Harris and Grace Haus are all seniors and the top three in scoring for the Gators last year. Huge gap in scoring between these three and the rest of the team. You could look it up.

I found it interesting listening to Cara Trombetta on a podcast earlier this year voice that same concern, but said she and her teammates are trying to reject that as an excuse. I've heard from girls on the UF team that they don't get along very well off the field. They all want to be the best and don't want to work together and it's pretty evident in the offense they play. It feels like a run and gun 1v1 offense versus a passing/assisting offense. Agreed—you can’t beat da Cuse’s zone going one on one. BC demonstrated how to beat it in the NCAA final. Quick passing, move the defense, find the open teammate. (Of course it doesn’t hurt to have Charlotte North on your team ripping the net 6 times either.)
