Take a look at PSU fall roster. Notice a couple players missing? One of them is their best player who just made the cutdown to 36 for Team USA.Cagekeeper wrote: ↑Fri Jun 18, 2021 9:56 amCan you throw a hint. Few players missing but the one who would cause a mild shock wave is Dirks.hmmm wrote: ↑Fri Jun 18, 2021 3:34 pmTake a look at PSU fall roster. Notice a couple players missing? Dirks is the big name, but they are missing many players, notably Suplee in the cage. Seems not too happy in happy valley.Cletus wrote: ↑Fri Jun 18, 2021 4:37 pmHere's the roster from this past season:hmmm wrote: ↑Fri Jun 18, 2021 3:34 pmTake a look at PSU fall roster. Re: 2021—The Season in Review
As the dust settles on '21, I'm still so impressed with what BC accomplished. To knock off the #1 team on a 27 game winning streak in the semifinals of the NCAA's, a team universally considered to be a shoe in for the next national championship. And then to beat Syracuse in the final, a team the Eagles lost to three times earlier in the season. A remarkable achievement.
Re: 2021—The Season in Review
The Florida Gators had another season of promise only to fall short in the postseason. They were in the quarterfinal with Syracuse for the first half. Then Syracuse scored the first 5 goals of the 2nd half, and 7 of 8 to put the game out of reach early.
They did avenge the loss to Jacksonville in the 2nd round of the NCAA's. Unfortunately that was the high point of the season for the Gators. They're still not ready for prime time. I wonder what kind of influence Thorpe will have. Do assistant coaches even really ever have influence beyond the head coach? I don't know--I'm asking.
Florida had way more underclass on their roster last year than upper so we'll see if any promising players emerge as '22 unfolds.

I know Trombetta is graduating. Not sure of the other significant senior players who is returning. Shannon Kavanaugh, Brianna Harris and Grace Haus are all seniors and the top three in scoring for the Gators last year. Huge gap in scoring between these three and the rest of the team. You could look it up.
Re: 2021—The Season in Review
Interesting that BC and Syracuse became the only teams to play each other 4 times in one season. The chance for that happening may never occur again.
Re: 2021—The Season in Review
I suppose 2021 would be considered an underachievement for Stony Brook. Certainly below par with what coach Joe Spallina hoped. He did a great interview on Sam Croston's Stick Side High podcast earlier this year.

I gained a deeper appreciation for coach and what he does after listening. I witnessed a few interactions with him virtually and found him to be a great guy who doesn't take himself too seriously and is a good sport. He "liked" a post that predicted the Seawolves would get killed by Carolina in the quarters. Gotta love a coach who interacts with the fans like that.
One has to think Stony Brook will eventually break the glass ceiling and make it to the final weekend of the season one of these years. Joe does do a good job of recruiting for what he has to work with. I don't know how many of his seniors are eligible to return for 2022 but here is the list from the roster:
Re: 2021—The Season in Review
I really think playing in the AAC doesn’t help Florida get ready for the NCAA tourney. They just are not pushed hard enough during the regular season in league play to make a serious run in the post season.Cletus wrote: ↑Sun Jun 27, 2021 6:45 am

Don’t have an answer, they do try to play some good out of conference games early in the season. They may have a tough time getting good out of conference games, who knows.
Re: 2021—The Season in Review
I agree, it doesn't help. I found it interesting listening to Cara Trombetta on a podcast earlier this year voice that same concern, but said she and her teammates are trying to reject that as an excuse. You're right--they do schedule tough opponents during the regular season but I don't know how much it carries over into the NCAA's.TNLAX wrote: ↑Sun Jun 27, 2021 9:31 am I really think playing in the AAC doesn’t help Florida get ready for the NCAA tourney. You might find it interesting to listen to her remarks. She's very candid about the conference they play in, herself and her teammates. She addresses the team choking in big games. She chooses the word although Croston doesn't use it in the question she asked.

Re: 2021—The Season in Review
Nice year for Philly in D1 this past season. Drexel, St. Joes and Temple all made a little noise during the regular season, with Temple and Drexel making it to the Dance. Always good to see new blood making strides.

Re: 2021—The Season in Review
I've heard from girls on the UF team that they don't get along very well off the field. They all want to be the best and don't want to work together and it's pretty evident in the offense they play. It feels like a run and gun 1v1 offense versus a passing/assisting offense. Nothing wrong with that, but when you play Syracuse's high pressure zone in the NCAA quarters, you need to be able to trust your teammates enough to assist because 1v1s won't cut it against that defense.Cletus wrote: ↑Sun Jun 27, 2021 9:55 amI agree, it doesn't help. Trombetta alluded to that during the interview I think. Agreed—you can’t beat da Cuse’s zone going one on one. BC demonstrated how to beat it in the NCAA final. Quick passing, move the defense, find the open teammate. (Of course it doesn’t hurt to have Charlotte North on your team ripping the net 6 times either.)
