Uh, because they are insignificant.
Next week Trump and Kushner get Netanyahu back to the White House for peace treaties with two more: Peru and Tonga.6ftstick wrote: ↑Sat Sep 19, 2020 9:55 amIf they're insignificant why didn't somebody else do them.njbill wrote: ↑Sat Sep 19, 2020 9:48 am These are trade deals, not peace treaties, of course. Yes, establishing diplomatic relations is a good thing, but geopolitically, it is insignificant.
Add in the fact that the two countries agreed to the deals in exchange for being sold U.S. military hardware they wanted, and it's obvious their agreements were simply bought. Of course, Bibi went along. He is beholden to Trump and on the thinnest of thin ices in Israel.
Remains to be seen whether, as Trump claims, other similar trade deals will follow with other similarly situated peaceful Arab countries. Saudi Arabia? No way in hell will they establish diplomatic relations with Israel.
The Palestinians are understandably PO'd. These deals certainly don't make a peace deal with Israel more likely, as if Jared Kushner could ever come within one million miles of brokering that.
Trump has already royally screwed up any hope of progress with Iran by reneging on the nuclear agreement. Would step 2, getting Iran to stop supporting terrorism, have happened? A real long shot to be sure, but at least a beginning groundwork was in place. Now? No chance in hell. Why would Iran ever do a deal with the U.S. again? Trump has committed some doozies of blunders, but pulling out of the Iran deal is at or near the top of the list.
So what does the U.S. get out of these two trade deals, other than the companies that make the planes, etc. to be sold to them? Nothing. Not a GD thing.

All of you who complain that Trump undermined NATO should cheer this strengthening of an alliance in a region that is actually relevant.
Just a trade deal.
Why? What did this change for them? They were there last year. They were there this year. They'll be there next year. Same as it ever was.
This is like the Berlin Wall coming down, in the middle east. It's a realignment.
Calm down. This isn't exactly Begin/Sadat type material. Bahrain and UAE basically traded diplomatic relations/recognition of Israel in return for 1) Bibi's guarantee not to annex any Palestinian land as allowed in the recent Kushner one-sided "peace plan" and 2) the ability to purchase latest American war technology including F-35 stealth aircraft plus advanced stealth drones. Makes sense for them as a hedge against Iran (although Bibi is reportedly not too happy about his new "allies" having the same high-tech aircraft as he does now....wonder why that is?????)old salt wrote: ↑Sat Sep 19, 2020 11:30 pmThis is like the Berlin Wall coming down, in the middle east. It's the initial step in formalizing an alliance to contain & deter Iran & their proxies.
Who would have dared to imagine this in 1967 or 1973 ?
The Palestinians must make peace or be further marginalized.
You all do realize that you are proving the value of this "deal"; money, alliances, safety and stability, is what 'most' all countries and its people want. The ability to sit at the table and work things out....unlike our own damned congress. The opposition sound like a salesman that can't figure out how they lost a big sale, when it really just boiled down to some good ole' fashion relationship building and sharing some perks. It's your typical mafia-style deal brought to you by dirtbag Kushner and the rest of the family business including disguised Neocons like O'Brien, Pompeo, Cotton and the rest of your alleged multi-dimensional chess players. You complain about BHO selling out and then look the other way when your heroes do the selling out just in a different way.
Might also explain why the Qataris (who may be next in line for the same arrangement) were recently outed as renting a entire floor of of a SFO Trump property for quite some time without so much as ever occupying any of the space - KACHING!

Don't forget to applaud DoD for finally supplying what's left of our troops in Syria alleged ""guarding oil" some armored Bradley Fighting Vehicles to deal with Rooskie provocations ramming Humvees still trying to get DOPUS to remove all of them from the region.
As usual, you're delusional.

Then you don't IMHO understand how the art of a deal works especially in NY where DOPUS comes from (which is why I provided the example of corrupt practice that I did).
I hope you are right, but I don’t think you are.old salt wrote: ↑Sat Sep 19, 2020 11:30 pmThis is like the Berlin Wall coming down, in the middle east. It's a realignment.

BFD. The Bradley's went in when we deployed to the oil fields last fall, then they went back to Kuwait.Kismet wrote: ↑Sun Sep 20, 2020 7:48 amDon't forget to applaud DoD for finally supplying what's left of our troops in Syria alleged ""guarding oil" some armored Bradley Fighting Vehicles to deal with Rooskie provocations ramming Humvees still trying to get DOPUS to remove all of them from the region.
