The Georgetown - Rutgers scrimmage, hosted by Lindenwood last night, was a good one! Georgetown stormed back in the 4th for the win, but more importantly, as part of the St. Louis Fall Classic they raised over $15,000 for the St. Louis Children's Hospital.

For Fairfield, I believe it's:

1:00 MSM vs. HC
2:00 MSM vs. FU
3:00 FU vs. HC

Rutgers Sunday scrimmages with UMass @ 10am and Hobart @ 12 noon can be watched live online at https://ucc.gameonstream.com/ and "request access". It is a free streaming service of this weekend’s scrimmages.

Ty for the stream^ I think Rutgers has looked better in the first half. Lots of unnecessary flags like running through the pick and offsides

I watched the first half of the Rutgers UMass scrimmage. I had it 8-8 at half. Both teams looked ragged in the middle of the field with tons of turnovers but were both really strong at attack. Mullins and Charalambides were really dynamic on that left side for Rutgers. Similarly, Connelly and I believe Procyk were flying all around the crease and had some incredible dimes from X.

UMass dominated the early part of the half but Rutgers killed them in the second quarter. Lots of stupid penalties from UMass including an unsportsmanlike call on Cannella who seemed to be going apeshit on a missed call.

Not sure who the UMass goalie was but they might miss Scannone big time. That’s not a dig on the new goalie, it’s just that Scannone was insanely good and often bailed out the Gorillas defense this past season (except against Drexel in CAAs). UMass defense looked like they were out of position a bunch today. But they played super aggressive.

Anyone have feedback from this past weekend? Looked like there were some decent games played... Princeton, Notre Dame, Harvard, Vermont... Drexel...? Any reviews?

Fall Ball Scrimmages -- Who plays?

Post by Badlands »

Curious to hear from those who follow fall ball more closely than I do.

Do most teams allow all healthy players to play in fall ball? I've become aware of some teams that don't and it seems like total BS to me, especially when the coaches have asked those guys to bust their asses over the summer with conditioning and lifting. I understand if some kids don't play if they haven't yet passed the conditioning tests, but it seems to me if you ask them to bust their butts over the summer they deserve an opportunity in fall ball to show what they can do on the field in competitive games and to show off the work they have put in over the summer. After all, the point of off-season work is to improve, so why deny them the opportunity to show whether they have improved?

This rant applies especially to the first few weeks of fall ball when I really think playing time should be fairly equal so that everyone has a chance to show what they can do against live opponents. Then, if some guys don't show well or reveal that they didn't work that hard over the summer, they can sit for the last fall ball games and going into the spring they won't have a starting job. Seems to make sense for coaches to be transparent and make clear to the team that everyone who works hard will have an opportunity. Makes for a happier locker room. Plus, it creates an incentive for hard work over the summer. If kids who were reserves this spring see that they won't get a chance next fall to prove they can start, what incentive will they have over the summer to work hard?

I saw the Ohio State vs Robert Morris scrimmage last week. This was a very physical, and entertaining game.

Both teams played their top guys most of the game and that surprised me. Some people were not there - OSU FOGO - Inacio was not in attendance.

The game went back and forth the entire time.

Robert Morris was a team that surprised me. Never seen them before, but they play a really fast style of lacrosse. I think the difference is likely depth on the 2nd line of an RMU vs OSU.
