Re: VIRGINIA LACROSSE 2020
According to LT’s August newsletter, Pete Eldridge, star middie who played from 69 through 72, has died. Not only was Pete a superior lax player, but he went on to become quite a surfer while working on the OCBP. I think his move to California was a result of his love for the ocean. Not particularly big, he was notably strong at a time when working out was less common among athletes and lifeguards. He was a gentle guy with a kind sense of humor. I can still recall listening to his review of A Clockwork Orange while we were meeting on the beach between Seventh and Eighth Streets. Good guy, sad loss.
Re: VIRGINIA LACROSSE 2020
I am sorry to hear that. Didn’t he score the winning goal in the 1972 title game? I think the score was something like 13-12
Re: VIRGINIA LACROSSE 2020
Yes he did. When he took joined OCBP a few weeks later, I was honored to have a celebrity in my crew. I still think he thought the back problems he suffered later that summer were not unrelated to the powers of a young women who served ice cream below the Langford. Local mythology said she could cast spells. She ended up a stunt person in Hollywood. Not sure if the two kept in contact out in California. I think he was MOY in 72. He would be on a very short list of the all time best UVA middies.

I was just a young pup those years, but he was quite the player. He had a way of taking scorching hot skipper shots from the restraining line that seemed to leap into an upper corner with uncanny precision given the grass field irregular bounce. Of course, sometimes the shot would stay low through the feet of the screening attack man. Goalie nightmare.

Here is an SI archive of the ‘72 title game.
Eldridge is in one of the photos.

72 Title game.
Re: VIRGINIA LACROSSE 2020
10 Stone,
Scottie later said that was one of his worst mistakes. JT was a virtual lock to score that would have sent the game to two 4 minute TOs. It was a great game. When Eldridge had the bale were watching and commenting he was going to score. It was just the sense you had. He did ti against the first team AA goalie too. it was a great goal.

Trying to find full replay of '19 UVa/Cuse regular season (fantastic) game- introducing GF to the sport. Can't find on utube, espn replays are backdate limited, no luck on schools' sites. Any help? Lots of other games available of course, but for a reg season game that one really stands out.

Re: VIRGINIA LACROSSE 2020
UVA to play in the Team USA Fall Classic in October. Press release here.
SPARKS, Md. —The annual Team USA Fall Classic will be a lacrosse lover’s dream with the U.S. men’s and women’s national teams welcoming a Canadian men’s senior team and a Canadian women’s senior team and the reigning NCAA champions — Maryland (women) and Virginia (men) — to the event which will be held on the Oct. 18-20 weekend, which is also the annual induction weekend for the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame.
“We want to play USA more frequently than just once every four years,” said Jason Donville, director of high performance and international relations for the Canadian Lacrosse Association. “We want to get to an annual event. This is the first step.”
This year’s event also marks the second consecutive year the U.S. teams will match up against the reigning NCAA champions, and this year those teams will get the bonus opportunity of playing Canada as well.
The Virginia men won their first championship since 2011 and return a talented offensive group, but have to replace a number of key contributors to their title run, most notably All-American midfielder Ryan Conrad.
“We’re incredibly fortunate to be able to play two elite international teams,” said head coach Lars Tiffany. “This will certainly be an immediate eye-opener of where we are and how much we need to work on.”
