Admin—I am loath to police this thread or any thread, as I think the laissez-faire approach to moderation is clearly a point in FanLax's column compared to its predecessor, but it's hard enough as it is to follow the discussion with fatty's psychotic babbling spewing boiling hot non sequiturs in barely intelligible human language all the time. That's going to become impossible if the alter egos start interacting. Like those experiments when they make AI bots communicate with each other. After the hi's and hello's it quickly devolves into a nightmarish trip through the Uncanny Valley that makes one question reality. Longwinded way of saying: Yes I know there are ignore buttons, but is there any chance we can disincentivize this behavior? I don't mind that the Hopkins thread attracts fans of all teams and creatures of all the universe's mysterious species, but it'd be nice if there were some bare minimum expectation that discussions are had in good faith and there is an effort to communicate in a way that isn't harder to decipher than the Kryptos stone outside the CIA.

"cry me a river. no one is forcing you to pay attention to this."
Re: Johns Hopkins 2021
The obvious difference here is that fatty often completely derails the thread for days at a time. Even if one were to ignore his posts it would be hard to carry on a discussion about anything else while it's happening. A post here or there you can choose not to pay attention to, but it's hard to get around one of his binge posting sessions. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.
Unlike UVA, Cuse, Maryland, there is no Hopkins-only lacrosse forum that I am aware of. This is it. So we've got to deal with the peanut gallery. That's part of what gives this its charm. But, no, there isn't really an alternative Hopkins safe space. If you want to talk Hopkins you do have to pay some attention to it. Understand?

ok, ok.....I have to admit....at first, I replied after only reading the last paragraph first. The first paragraph........hillarious stuff. Do I have your permission to use your words for my screenplay? Completely serious. I can't make up "dialogue" like this anyway.runrussellrun wrote: ↑Wed Apr 14, 2021 3:41 pmPlenty of Hopkins lacrosse places to discuss, privately. try that fecesbook place.......I know there is a Hopkins lacrosse fan page there.HopFan16 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 14, 2021 3:37 pmThe obvious difference here is that fatty often completely derails the thread for days at a time. Re: Johns Hopkins 2021
Reading the comments the last few weeks, as the losses pile up, one gets the distinct impression that long-time Hopkins loyalists are experiencing an ever increasing sense of inescapable post-empire malaise. The signs that everything is crashing down and the tradition is no longer salvageable are unmistakable. Recruiting is probably past the point of no return and the coaching staff has begun the process of eating its young.
The entrenched President and his minions, despite paying uninspired lip service to generate donations from long-term alumni, are at the very least totally uninterested in lacrosse as a D1 sport. In their heart of hearts, they pine for the day that the last vestiges of "lacrosse school" identity no longer impinge on their insatiable desire to be considered equal to the Ivies in academic reputation. You guys care far more about the program than they do or ever did. They come from a far different intellectual place and feel neither sense of pride nor even connection to the long and vaunted tradition of Hopkins lacrosse. As an outside observer, what is happening to Hop lacrosse reminds me of the scene in the movie "Tropic Thunder," where Tom Cruise elects to justify his jettonising of his formerly high-grossing star Ben Stiller who played Scorcher by saying the "The kids just aren't dressing up as Scorcher for Purim anymore." That is how Daniels sees Hopkins lacrosse.
Unless Hopkins experiences either a significant housecleaning in the upper levels of control or a forceful directive from Mike Bloomberg, the program will move to D3 within 5 years. I feel very badly for you guys!. You deserve far better!

steel_hop, if you're saving posts, maybe you should save this one^

In PM's first recruiting class he got five 4-stars and a 3-star with perhaps a few more to come. He also brought two of his Cornell guys with him and got a 5-star defenseman in the class of '21 to stay put. He also did a little bit of poaching himself, snagging kids previously committed to Vermont and Binghamton.
We know the IL system is flawed but it's not like he's struggling to get kids to come to Hopkins.
He helped recruit some pretty good players while at Cornell too. We still don't know what impact Junior will have on offensive recruiting but I think it's fair to assume there will be a talented attackman or two in each class who is intrigued by the thought of learning directly from the GOAT.
Maybe recruiting will stink. I suppose it's possible. But your statement is trollish hysteria.

Sorry ABV - disagree - this post is filled with incendiary drivel. 11 kids have likely already signed NLIs to come this fall and there are to date 9 in 2022. Much better class sizes and there almost seems like there is a plan - e.g - a focus on midfielders.GSP wrote: ↑Wed Apr 14, 2021 3:55 pm Reading the comments the last few weeks, as the losses pile up, one gets the distinct impression that long-time Hopkins loyalists are experiencing an ever increasing sense of inescapable post-empire malaise. The one thing I agree with - Daniels probably doesn't think much about lax. How anyone would put that on Baker is beyond me. She should take little pride in Hopkins lacrosse going down. There's something for your resume when you want a higher paying job at a D1 school - yessir I took the only D1 sport the school had and drove it right to D3. Baker does not care about the academic reputation of Hopkins in the way it is portrayed above. She cares about the success of the overall program so she can maybe get a better job. Having the marquee program succeed would be to her immediate and long term benefit.
Again, they hired Milliman and then went out and got 2 relatively higher profile assistant coaches. They didn't hire the Severn JV coach (no offense to whomever that is) and then stuck him with Abbott and Costello.

Won't bother trying to explain why I think Hopkins is a good team, right now, on a Hopkins thread.
back to the head in the sand, it was world wide news that such and such became such and such within the Hopkins athletic department...
..not the Freddie Gray riots.
Certainly, recent Hopkins lacrosse playing grads, now coaching at NE prep schools, hear the concerns from the parents.. .....same with the "top" club teams....they constantly have to explain the Daniels.....strange Cornell connections.
Not to be tongue in cheek, just a tongue in cheeks, what value do you place on campus visits?
the reason I ask, is, how many of the 11 kids who have signed a NLI have visited Baltimore in the last year. Doubtful, beyond locals, any.
Stay home, stay safe.
also, at this point........like hopfan16.....they've got no where else to go.
I apologize. I won't bother your thread. again. all the others, too

Re: Johns Hopkins 2021
Well - with Todaro at least he could find a home at alot of places. I've been told by some folks that have seen him in person - he's a beast. Look Petro's dismissal blew up the '21 class - no question about it. Whether you believe in any rankings or not it certainly created an absurd amount of turnover and Hopkins lost all but one of their "ranked" players and a desperately needed highly regarded goalie recruit. Maybe Sgt. Friday will rise above. And you are probably right - very few would have any reason to come to Baltimore - the school was closed - the city was pretty much shut down. I don't think it was Bawlmer that tipped the scales either way.runrussellrun wrote: ↑Wed Apr 14, 2021 5:47 pm the reason I ask, is, how many of the 11 kids who have signed a NLI have visited Baltimore in the last year. Re: Johns Hopkins 2021
Just got my e-mail update from PM.
In case anybody is wondering - there is no mention of the Epstein issue - I didn't expect one at all - but I am sure there is at least one or two posters here that are now calling Jen Baker demanding a full investigation.
Somewhat ironically, however, the first brief paragraph was a bunch of normal coach gobbledy- gook - stuff about success being a lifestyle not a switch an arrow he should have had in his quiver when asked about Epstein
Coach liked the effort against Ohio State
Ended with a Belichick like we're on to Rutgers
