2. BC -- looked lackluster to me against Pitt.

3. Syracuse -- trounced Temple (which tells you something about the distance between the top four or five and the rest of the Universe). Oh, why No. 3? See below.

4. NU -- beat Michigan by three in Ann Arbor, and made me think, well, Syracuse is better, and I went to school there, and it's my poll, so Syracuse moves up.

5. Loyola -- good win over a tough Princeton team, and some practice against BU. I think they have a good chance at the Dome tomorrow. So why is Syracuse No. 3? Because it's my poll.

6. Princeton.

7. SBU -- just plugging along. Date with Loyola coming up.

8. Duke -- yep, up to No. 8. Nice win on a frigid day in South Bend.

9. Denver. This is the team no one is going to want to play in the NCAA tournament. Physical, tough, and well-coached. .

10. Maryland -- still here in the top ten, even with the loss to JMU. But this loss exposed the Terps as a team deeply reliant on the performance of one or two people.

11. Rutgers

12. Michigan

13. JMU -- getting better every week. A good week and they will move up in my poll.

14. Florida

15. V-Tech. Got pounded by Syracuse and UNC. So what?

16. Virginia

17. Notre Dame

18. Colorado

19. USC

20. UConn
It’s not the distance between the top 4 or 5 and everyone else. It’s the distance between the top 2 teams and everyone else.

I was being nice, which is, I confess, a little out of character for me. So OK, you're right. And frankly, after the top ten, I honestly have no idea how good these teams are.

Agreed - I have no clue anymore after the top 2. I think after those two, it's school alliances and likes/dislikes of the programs that drives the rankings. Can you imagine if the top 2 both were upset?!?!? It would be a free for all for the NC!

As long as teams like Vermont and Davidson show up in top 20 lists, this method of ranking teams has no credibility in my estimation.

Agreed and didn’t UVA beat Richmond by 10? I don’t think anyone is going to argue UVA’s SOS either. Some people/polls refuse to look any deeper than a w/l record.

That is some wild and crazy stuff. I would love to see the formula behind that Top 20. Vermont and Davidson - really? Navy - as someone who has watched quite a few of their games, they are just not very good. JMU has beaten three of his Top 20 teams but is not listed? It is almost as if his formula puts more emphasis on quality losses than quality wins.
