Why so judgmental? Everyone has choices. His choices weren’t yours.

I see both sides of this and there is no perfect scenario and feel bad for the marginal players who have been squeezed from playing time from 21-25.
Agreed, it is a tough argument to make either way. Fortunately, we are nearing the end of this trend, but I do not think that it only impacts marginal players, it also impacts player development in that you may have a underclassman that is really talented, but their development is being delayed because playing time is going to the 5th/6th/7th year player. So when a player like Raba finally leaves, you may have a talented rising junior that saw limited time because he was sitting behind Raba as opposed to progressively getting more playing time freshman and sophomore year. Therefore, while I appreciate the - if you have the eligibility, use it argument, I feel pretty bad for the underclassman and their parents who were sold on a great program, but now sit behind the grad student, which is probably made worse by the fact that it's the coach's kid.

I understand what you are saying and hope Good Coaching can use older players while still developing younger ones.

Do you differentiate the 22 yr old taking a 5th year vs. the freshman 20-21 yr old prep-school kid who did an extra year of pre-k and/or reclassified and/or a PG year before they arrived at college? And if so what is different other than when they decided (vs their parents) to do the extra year.

Some part of me agrees with every single opinion on the Raba situation. And I don't think anyone is passing judgement, more so just voicing their opinion/personal feelings on the circumstances. I think it's tough to know what you would do unless you're in those shoes. Anyhow, wish him the best, he's a heck of a player.

A 22 yr old 5th yr is, obviously, way more seasoned and experienced than the 20 yr old Freshman. That said, as a coach, I'd rather have a kid for the 4 years between 20-24 rather than 17-21, which some kids are.

To be honest, I was not really thinking about it on the front end with the holdbacks and reclasses, but I appreciate the comment. I guess that I am not as triggered by the reclasses/holdbacks because in the end (outside of any of those kids having extra eligibility with covid), they are still in the same shoes as the other kids, 4 years and done. It is also possible, that I eventually became numb to the holdback/reclass thing during high school/club, and basically forget about it once my kid got to college, although I never really cared too much about it at the time anyway.

Thanks, Laxxal. Great stuff as always! I am surprised to see that both Amherst and Midd grabbed two FO guys. Maybe that's a legacy of some messed up Covid rosters, or perhaps an acknowledgement that the position is a hard one to analyze talent and to minimize burnout/injury. It seems that Trinity has built a strong pipeline to the ISL with four '25s on their list. That is one of the few NESCACs that still allows fraternities and has a social life that most resembles the scene at most NESCACs in the '70s, '80s and '90s. Perhaps that is a differentiator??? I would say that Midd and Trinity have the strongest groups so far.

Midd had two FOs in the '21 HS class and only one other (HS '23) since.

When will the NESCAC schools be done with their classes is it 10 spots for most schools? Or more? Seems like most of these schools are almost done.

Because it’s incomplete. People here are bitter that they have a 6th year, and somehow see that as different from their school’s reclassed kids, who then did a PG, to come in and dominate as a 20 year old “true” freshman.

Here’s a better list.

Wes will push Tufts next year for the conference ‘ship. Mark my words, true as I predicted Middlebury’s slip.
