To finish 6th ranked is a great achievement for which we thank the coaches, grad students, transfers and upper/lower classmen.
Proof that pre-season rankings are speculative BS...

On the room/board thing - one thing is they were out of practice for 3 years - 4 if you think they didn't need a room after getting waxed by Notre Dame on May 12, 2019. Fla is certainly correct - if team members were caught off guard - that's on the athletic administration and DOLO - but parents can get cheesed by alot - it shouldn't have been too much of a distraction. It seems like they address their mistakes - if they get past the first week-end in '24 I believe there will be no issue because of housing.

As far as the game - the team deserves so much credit - holding Notre Dame to 18 shots on goal and the Kavanaughs to 5 points was a job very well done and this was a primary reason the game was close. Irish were held 4 goals below their season average and 10 SOGs below their season average. Even though Notre Dame had nominally 2 more turnovers - the TOs in the middle of the field in the first half really hurt Hopkins - so many unforced and not paying attention. Marcille gave it everything but 6 saves 33% - 3 saves in the last 45 minutes is simply not going to get it done. You had almost exactly the same shot percentage as Notre Dame (JHU 29% ND 28%) SOG% way higher for Hopkins (61% to 41%) - can't beat a team taking 31 shots. Have to give Notre Dame credit - goalie did what he had to do - defense in front of him was terrific - and they got 5 goals from Simmons/Seymour which is what you wanted - to make those guys beat you and they did. Easy now to see why UVA gives ND so much trouble - however. LaSalla on face-offs - Kastner/Saustad to take on the brothers - and the variety of scoring UVA can get from Dickson and Cormier on the interior with Shellenberger circling behind - it's hard to see how the Irish even climb past the vaunted hard to beat a team 3 times maxim.

Maybe the greatest offensive weakness for Hopkins - no interior - catch and shoot presence - a Brandon Benn type would have worked well on this team as they had plenty of others to carry the ball but while not big maybe soembody like Marquis can catch everything and get shots off.

Great season for Hopkins.

I had this team at 3-4 wins at the start of the season. The Crawley effect, transfers and emerging freshmen have put this program on the right track. Full marks to Milliman.

I do think that the program is still lacking on the administrative side. Poor planning around grad set up at Homewood and end of semester evictions of the freshmen and sophomore from the dorms weren’t planned for and were unnecessary distractions. I don’t know if they need a new DOLO but something has to give there given every year administratively they seem unprepared for known events.
They got kicked out of their dorms?!?

That is totally screwed up.

What I was told was the semester was over and they had to move out of the dorms abruptly when they all expected that they had extensions. That they were scrambling to find them places to stay. Apparently there were some angry parents.
They were not scrambling to find places, everyone knew that the dorms closed on Tuesday and they were all moved into the late stay dorms parents received this email:

Congratulations on a successful season. Due to your continued athletics commitments, the Athletics Department has arranged extended housing for you at AMR 2.

General Rules & Guidelines
Please be mindful that all of the JHU Community Standards and Residential Policies apply during your late stay and they can be found here.
All key pickup will take place from the Wolman Security desk. Students must present their JCard to pick up keys.
When returning room keys, please complete a key envelope and drop the envelope located in the key drop box in Wolman or AMR II mailroom.

May 17, 2023 Late-Stay Transfers
For those athletes who will make the transfer from their academic year spaces to longer term late-stay housing, your new rooms should be ready at 7 PM on May 17th. You should pick up your new room key from Wolman Hall Security, make the transfer immediately, and return your academic year room and mailbox key. The Housing Office will have extended hours that day so that students can sign out bins for use.

Please note that if you are scheduled to move on May 17th and you do not pick up your key, the Housing Department will assume that you no longer need housing. If you do not need late-stay housing, please communicate with your coach.

Moving Bins
The Wolman Housing Department will be open until 9 PM to loan moving bins to make your move easier. All bins must be returned by 9 PM on May 17th. Please plan accordingly.

Maybe some new parents were "shocked" by the need to change but this has been Hopkins policy since as long as I remember. Athletes that live in the dorms that are still playing in spring sports (baseball is still playing in the NCAA tournament) that have played past the dorm closing deadline have all shuffled all there stuff to one dorm where there is one RA (and can limit facility staff's time). This isn't surprising. Hopkins lax hasn't had to do it since 2019 - so not sure who was on the team way back then but this isn't a shock.

Overall, it was a very good year for Hopkins. Lots of good things to see. Program finally righted itself. Now it will have to build off of that correction to be back in the hunt. Being the hunted rather than the hunter will certainly be a different place for the team.

I said at the beginning of the year I said that to alleviate the requirement for PM to make the tournament in his 4th year, a lot of improvement would be necessary. That happened. I also said that if he didn't make the tournament in his 3rd year, he's seat would be very hot in his 4th. There will be more pressure next year on him and the schedule won't get any easier - UM made the tournament for the first time and is building a program. Rutgers will attempt to fill the team with more grad students. PSU looks like they've fixed whatever has plagued them for the last 2-3 years. OSU had a ton of injuries and always gives Hopkins fits in Columbus. UMD is UMD. We are on to 2024...

This is a good team (that does not match up well against UVA), but remember the year the Duke Long Stick who took it right down Tobacco Road on a fast break, made that extra step to greatness, and all the ND Goalie could do was turn and rake?

That ND team back then had a patient offense and great defense.

Questionable, two clear losses to UVA this year is a argument against and even recent 21 and 22 teams might arguably have been as good despite lesser records . Next one or two games will establish their standing
