This is why you're a pro-government zealot. The most American thing you can possibly do, is tell the American Government to F off. It's the ENTIRE reason the very first Amendment is:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

You have managed to convince yourself that standing at attention for the magic Government song makes one a patriot.

You understand that people other than Americans stand during the playing of our National Anthem, right? Was at a Vancouver Canucks game earlier this year, and an arena full of Canadians stood quietly during the playing of our National Anthem.

So does this mean (snicker) that I was surrounded by a few thousand American patriots? Or does standing during a song have NOTHING to do with patriotism?

I'm as far from a 'pro-government zealot' you will ever find. I'd be quite ecstatic if someone immediately laid off 50% of all government employees, on the way to keeping only 10% of those that today work as federal employees. I want all federal government employees to no longer be shielded by immunity laws. I want all federal government employees to have defined contribution pension plans. I would like to abolish at least 50% of all federal agencies that have cabinet level status.

What I am also about is law and order. These two positions are not mutually exclusive.

I also have immense pride in America...being born in America was like starting on 3rd base in life. Most democrats do not have that pride; they tell you they do, but they don't. And I am not talking about the dwindling lacrosse octogenarians of Fanlax, but the new growing Democratic Party that you find in NYC and Seattle.

If you were honest, you'd admit that the Party will have an immensely difficult straddle this Fall, trying to play to the sane taxpayers who love the United States by wanting to stand for the Flag, but also needing to play woke to the angry Young anti-American Pioneers of the Party. And they will kneel...mark that down. he Left at the end of the day is a weak organism, propped up by a mob's anger, which never lasts forever; the mob is dumb and unpredictable, a very bad combo, but ultimately it fizzles out.

It will end in chaos.

To a fan's credit, he's not nearly as easy to resort to personal insults as most of the Left here.

What you need to understand when someone resorts to direct personal insults on an Internet board is two things: clinically they are birdbrains, and opposing opinions give them headaches. Any time the Left here says something to me personally as a direct insult, I bathe in the mental anguish of the poster (I actually have to lay off at that stage, as their next move is possibly to go postal, and none of us want that on our conscience)

How good it is that some radical anarchists have taken over a swath of a large American city and the Mayor and governor says "ahh its just kids playin."

Anyhoo, you're in the minority in your Party today; soon, you won't even be welcome. A requirement to be a Democrat will be to take a knee when the National Anthem is played.
I fly the flag on my house every day. An homage to my greatest generation father. Most of my neighbors on the block (Rep, Dem, native, immigrant) followed my lead and now do the same as well. It just totally nicks me off when the MAGAs lay exclusive claim to the flag and patriotism. Especially when they are as anti-American and anti-democracy as anything I've seen in my lifetime.

The MAGA jerk at the other end of the street (of course) declined to fly the flag. Had to grind his ax by flying a Don't Tread on Me instead of the Stars and Stripes. Nobody on the block likes him (for lots of reasons); thankfully, he recently moved away.

When I finally get back to going to ballgames, I think I probably will take a knee during the Anthem. I think that is a very respectful and American thing to do.

50% cuts? So liquidate the University of Florida? Where do I sign for that?

And no more public schools? Okay. Works for me.
Peter Brown wrote: Tue Jun 16, 2020 3:21 pm What I am also about is law and order. These two positions are not mutually exclusive.
No. They aren't. But what IS mutually exclusive is telling citizens that the police departments are perfect, don't need changes.... and every other department in our Government can handle budget cuts, or reorganization for improved performance ....except the police.

That is absurd, and you know it. And yet you whine about "defunding the police". NYC blows $500 Million on pensions----just the pensions----and you're telling us that defunding that system is insane? Please.
Peter Brown wrote: Tue Jun 16, 2020 3:21 pm I also have immense pride in America...being born in America was like starting on 3rd base in life. Most democrats do not have that pride; they tell you they do, but they don't.
This is fascist nonsense, Pete. You don't get to question someone else's patriotism, pal. I sure as *hit would never question yours. It's a disgusting, fascist, wrapping-yourself-in-the-flag bullcookies.
Peter Brown wrote: Tue Jun 16, 2020 3:21 pm If you were honest, you'd admit that the Party will have an immensely difficult straddle this Fall, trying to play to the sane taxpayers who love the United States by wanting to stand for the Flag, but also needing to play woke to the angry Young anti-American Pioneers of the Party.
That's certainly YOUR interpretation.

What MY interpretation is: they're finally listening to people who are trying to tell their leaders that their government is failing them. I find it very, very telling just how desperate you are to plug your ears, and refuse to listen to what your fellow citizens are telling you.

Well---that's what these people are telling you: the government has major problems. You CLAIM to agree with them. This is why I keep saying that your party has an ENORMOUS opportunity here------listen to your fellow citizens as they detail these problems. And then offer your conservative based solution to the problems. You claim the Dems get it wrong? I have great news! These citizens are complaining about D-run governments! So give them your practical Republican solutions!

Everyone wins! And you'd have a whole new Republican base.

Naaaaah. Now why would you want to do that? I like your idea better. Whine about the worst of the protesters....and then don't lift a finger to offer solutions.

You know what helps to being born on third base? Having an affluent parent(s) to provide and support one well into and through adulthood. I can’t imagine how much easier it would’ve been for me not having to borrow or hustle to pay for both college and grad school, go to mid tier institutions and still land a front office gig in NY only to be surrounded by others coming mostly from NE boarding schools to Ivy and maybe 10-15 other colleges and have to work twice as hard once there. Would’ve been nice to
Just relocate to a tax free state and cruise in adulthood on the dividend checks.

Who’s bitching and who is a democrat? I’m just stating an observation which is very much true. If you read anything into it that’s on you. I’m doing fine and earned every penny, occasionally not seeing my infant children or sacrificing personal time but Im in good shape generally, have far surpassed my parents or anyone else on my side of the family. That’s a success story for a generation where doing better than parents is fast slipping.

Who are you suggesting is a winner? Would having a net worth 5x the estate of ones parents with a home mostly paid for that’s 2x in size of the home own grew up in and providing all sorts of things for their children than they had? Does that constitute winner?
