Johns Hopkins 2023
Re: Johns Hopkins 2023
Stevens is taking the 400-mile range very literally by sending Bryant to us rather than Maryland.nyjay wrote: ↑Sun May 07, 2023 4:38 pm Not sure I believe this, but sign me up for this bracket. Please?

Would be surprised if we get Richmond, Cornell, or Yale. Thinking it's going to be Army, Bryant, or Princeton now.
Worry about beating one of those teams first before we consider who the QF opponent would be.

I'm not a coach and was never a captain of a team but I wonder how getting blown out the way they did affects how a coach views his roster going into postseason. Does getting crushed change his view of his lineup and struggling players more than a narrow loss/win?nyjay wrote: ↑Sun May 07, 2023 4:35 pm Pretty nice to be in a position of not having to worry at all if Princeton won. Couple of late thoughts on the MD game.
1. I thought Marcille was good to very good while the game was close. Seemed like all of the back post dunks wore on him from the mid-third quarter onwards. You can't go away from him at this point. I would have considered it at a different point in the season, but you just can't now. Query as to whether the leash may be a little short at this point though. If he starts poorly, wouldn't be surprised if he gets pulled (which is obviously not ideal).
2. The game was lost via turnovers and bad off ball defense. So many bad turnovers and so many guys getting layups in front of a trailing defender who dozed off.
3. Maybe it was Makar and Schaller, but Angelus and Melendez just totally disappeared from the middle of 1Q onwards. What happened there? Schaller by the way was excellent. Didn't seem to make any mistakes and made a couple of really good plays. Great, another good MD defensemen to deal with.
4. As everyone noted, substitution patterns were very odd. Not entirely sure what the staff was thinking by mixing it all up that much at this time of year.
5. It's a privilege to have a home game in the NCAA. One we haven't had in way too many years.
6. Would be nice to get the 4 or 5 seed. Avoiding the ACC heavyweights in the quarters would be nice, and I'd love another crack at the Terps (who I assume is either the 4 or 5).

Re: Johns Hopkins 2023
but hoping 06 got a chuckle too...
Re: Johns Hopkins 2023
So 6 seed playing Bryant at home. ND in the quarters if they win. OK - I guess I'll take that.
Avoid Army and Princeton in the first round, but would rather have MD/PSU in the quarters.

Re: Johns Hopkins 2023
Good matchup for Jays.
Re: Johns Hopkins 2023
Yep. "Easier" 1st round matchup (on paper) but the harder QF game (again, on paper). But come tourney time you can pretty much throw out the paper.
Bryant has some slick attackmen and they face off very well. Won't be an easy out by any stretch. But Jays need to take care of business here. I want to exorcise those ND demons from 2019.

had the same thought about 19 (was it really only 19? feels like 10 years ago). wouldn't be in Indiana at least. hosting a first round game. big step forward given we're we've been. well done, boys. well done.HopFan16 wrote: ↑Sun May 07, 2023 9:55 pmYep. Re: Johns Hopkins 2023
Did anyone see the reaction from Bryant’s locker room and not want to suit up and play against them? Time to remind them who we are, let’s go Jays!!!

Welcome aboard.
I believe that if life gives you lemons, you should make lemonade... And try to find somebody whose life has given them vodka, and have a party.
Re: Johns Hopkins 2023
Seems like if the Jays beat Bryant, the quarterfinal game (presumably against ND) is in Annapolis.
Re: Johns Hopkins 2023
The Caracciolo revenge game narrative is interesting given the goalie discussions we've been having.
Re: Johns Hopkins 2023
The Bryant matchup for the Jays is about as good as can be expected. Have a look at their schedule and check out the scores and W/L. This should be an easy one for the Jays and I think it will be.
Re: Johns Hopkins 2023
Guys, we're back in the dance. The last few seasons have absolutely sucked. Let's not do that again.
Never forget that Sag A said this team wouldn't win 7 games and that PM should look for other jobs.

Re: Johns Hopkins 2023
If nothing else he should be able to give Marcille a scouting report on their shooters' tendencies. That said, two of their three leading scorers are freshmen.
