Richmond has not looked good this year. I'd throw a team like Delaware in there instead.
Agree 100% on UMass. I'm sorry they haven't been able to play yet, but we're three/four weeks into the season. If you're going to rank teams that haven't played yet, why not include the Ivies?

As for Delaware, the Hens are going to surprise and maybe even shock some teams if they advance to the NCAAT. They are well-balanced and loaded at attack. That said, I'm not conceding the CAA to Delaware. The Hens will first have to get past the Gorillas. :)
... and the Dutch and the rest, and the CAA tournament,
its a slugfest, one bid league.

4 Georgetown (4 - 0)
5 Rutgers (3 - 0)
6 Syracuse (2 - 1)
7 Army (3 - 1)
8 Notre Dame (2 - 0)
9 Virginia (5 - 1)
10 Denver (5 - 2)
11 Lehigh (2 - 0)
12 Penn State (1 - 2)
13 Loyola (2 - 2)
14 UMass (0 - 0)
15 Navy (2 - 0)
16 UAlbany (2 - 0)
17 Ohio State (1 - 2)
18 High Point (1 - 3)
19 Richmond (1 - 2)
20 Hofstra (3 - 1)

Same 20 teams with a few differences in order. Rutgers moved in front of Georgetown. Virginia in front of Notre Dame. Umass still ranked at 16. Navy at 17. Hofstra up to 18.

There really is a dearth of good D1 teams this year if Richmond at 1-3 is still in the top 20. Their only win this year is a one-goal victory at home over the 2-4 Towson Tigers, who might not even be a top 30 team.

I really like Richmond's defense, but the offense is predictable and extremely boring to watch. I've seen all of their games and nearly every one of them put me to sleep. They average 8 goals a game and most of these goals come on broken plays or rebounds. Lanchbury is the only threat they have on offense.

They have a bunch of softies coming up, so I would expect the voters to keep them in the top 20 after victories over VMI and Bellarmine.

Of course none of this matters. If they don't win the SoCon, they have no shot at an at-large bid.

I could be wrong, but they will have to improve dramatically on offense if they expect to get past High Point this year.

North Carolina visits Virginia on Thursday in the first of two regular-season meetings. Then comes the opening round of home-and-homes in the Big East (Georgetown at Denver) and the Big Ten (Rutgers at Maryland) on Saturday. Both will give an outright conference lead to the winner as the midpoint of league play approaches.

So, while things seem pretty familiar near the top of the Nike/US Lacrosse Division I Top 20 this week, expect a new look next Monday

I really question first Richmond at 1-3 with a one goal win over a 2-4 Towson. Hopkins at 1-2? if Rutgers or Michigan had exact same record over exact same opponents they wouldn't even be receiving votes. Finally UMass at 0-0 number 13 really?

These rankings really mean nothing this early in the season, but I would like to propose that the loser of the JHU v Penn State game be banished from the top 20 rankings for the remainder of the year unless they beat Maryland...which isn't going to happen.

If JHU losses, which seems very likely, it will be almost impossible to get back in the top 20. They will need to start wining in the B1G. Beating Michigan is not enough...

I think Delaware will be there next week. Too bad they don't play Umass until April 30.

Duke is #1 because they were #1 preseason and you can't replace #1 until they're beaten. Whatever...

Based on Ws and Ls in 2021 and the quality of those Ws and Ls in 2021, UNC is #1, UMD is #2.

The media poll agrees with you on UNC.

Rank Team Points Prev
1 North Carolina (7 - 0) 403 (8) 2
2 Duke (8 - 0) 398 (6) 1

12 Loyola (3 - 2) 159 13
13 UMass (1 - 0) 139 16

15 Johns Hopkins (2 - 2) 110 29

18 Delaware (5 - 1) 63 22
19 Vermont (2 - 2) 53 29
20 Hofstra (3 - 1) 52 18

I did not find UMass' win over Fairfield convincing enough to move them from 16 to 13.
I also did not find OSU's win over Michigan a reason to move them up. Michigan was close to beating them.

Lucky for them, they’re on a ten day break,
so maybe no impact at all.
