I wonder about our expectations of our leadership too. This calamity in Maui -- like the hurricanes in Houston and Haiti and countless (and counting) other weather related disasters -- are just far beyond the scope of virtually any of us to wrap our heads around. Where do you start: shelter, potable fresh water, food, clothing. After that it is a long slog made more complicated by the intransigence and bureaucracy of insurance companies and the governments trying to help. It is never a neatly rehearsed little play or performance. It always leaves some people slipping through the many, many cracks that have opened up in the communities. If the government is committing the resources, trying its best, and helping as many people as it can manage, it is doing alright. No one gets an A in this course; a B- is probably what we can properly expect.youthathletics wrote: ↑Thu Aug 24, 2023 2:04 pmGlad to hear this, and I quite agree. Well said. It certainly makes matters worse, when it is an island. Although, being in a profession when contingencies are crucial, there are always MOP(Methods of procedure) that must be followed. I would hope that FEMA, Red Cross, and our Military would already be on stand-by and following a flowchart that would flip the switches for action within frist request from the state or local government to the feds.Seacoaster(1) wrote: ↑Thu Aug 24, 2023 2:29 pmI wonder about our expectations of our leadership too. 1. you can see here that Americans EXPECT the FEDERAL government to fix things. Not insurance. Not the free market. Not their own savings. Not their STATE Government. The FEDERAL.
This is what gets my back up------when the chips are down, Americans who claim independence and freedom are LYING. I wish they'd stop with this lie, so that we could get on with good governance, and stop LYING and saying the Government is the problem, and that socialism is bad. How many times have I said this: if you don't want big government? Great. Start with what YOU get from the Federal government.
This is the entitlement that conservatives swear "only the libs" have. They're not being remotely honest.
2. does this mean folks are FINALLY tired of the reality that it is the US OFFENSE industry, and has just about nothing to do with DEFENDING our shores?

First, what the heck does this have to do with wokeness, second what the heck is she whining about?
Sure, she's facing a huge calamity.
But she sounds like she assumes the federal government is supposed to pay for everything, all the time and yet she's obviously a partisan...if she wasn't making it political, I'd say, yes, this is a disaster and that's indeed where FEMA steps in to help with disaster relief...thank your lucky stars that FEMA exists, thank you whoever bothers to come help, bring attention to your disaster, showing some concern and empathy...or else shut up.
A fan is right, shut up about hating the federal government, hating "socialism", if you're just going to turn around and expect help...focus your ire, if any is appropriate, on those actually responsible, if anyone is, for the actual disaster...look at your local government, look at your local power company...ohh, you want the federal government to do more regulating? ok, then shut up about too much safety regulation...or stop asking for help...
Pick a lane.

No clue what you are talking about. The only story to discuss is that pain she has endured and the nothingness she and others have yet to benefit or received from the Feds...implying they can do better. But hey.....let's make the story about the one site I cited or many, or pronouns, or wokeness, or mocking prayer and their faith.Typical Lax Dad wrote: ↑Fri Aug 25, 2023 4:48 pmPut your thinking cap on. It's a shame you spend so much time finding the negative in most everyone, I suppose it could reflect how you feel internally with your daily projections of others. You can do better.

Warner Bros. Discovery named Mark Thompson as its next CEO and chairman of cable news network CNN.
Thompson previously served as president and CEO of The New York Times, as well as director-general of the BBC.
Will be interesting to see if he can stop the bleeding of audience at the network.
Maybe start by letting the news anchors sit down on the air.
