I hope you guys are finding something to do other than dwelling on this 24/7, it's not good for your head. Not saying to bury your head in the sand, be aware, be a good soldier and do what you can/should but get away from the every minute, every number news, it'll make you nuts.

Am curious, 6', inasmuch as you seem to disagree with the people who live in the world of virus research and the like, what do you suggest is the answer to our current state of affairs? Criticism is easy, answers not so much. Whattaya got?

Typical? Typical of what, I asked you question, that's all.
Okay then, it's an open question to everyone. So what's
your answer?

Both my wife and I are in the high risk group. Age health etc. She nearly passed away from ARDS recently. I think we're better served and more insulated from harm by a strong thriving economy. Full employment. Growth. Not the trampling of society as we know it. Especially when armageddon as promised has yet to arrive and may not. They're actually laying off doctors and nurses across the country because they have little to do and hospitals are losing money.

But the claims from the other side just have to be gobsmacked. Like the nonsense about Jared Trump and his use of the word OURS.

See my post above.

How about a more efficient federal response? There are reports (prolly Fake news to some) that the feds seem to be forcing states and localities to compete with each other for desperately needed supplies. Top advisers seem to be mis-stating the status of the federal stockpile of emergency equipment and supplies. There also seem to be some sort of favoritism or partisanship going on with respect to the even-handed and again, efficient response...

The testing situation is curious as well. You'd think by now that we'd have a more ubiquitous, efficient (that word again) situation in this regard, which seems to me to be perhaps the single most effective way to get the situation under control, as the uncertainty of it all is causing so much angst in the populace. Travel, work, mingling...getting the economy (and the markets) to crank up slowly again could be done with a modicum of confidence if only we KNEW with more confidence what folk's status was...

A divided country, acting in a divided way, seems to be causing a lot of confusion and distress. What (or who) could MOST EFFECTIVELY stem this dynamic and make it more easy to confront the pandemic? I know who I think is most in a positikon to do that. Is he? And if not, WHY not?

Just wondering, what does full employment and a strong thriving economy have to do with addressing the current pandemic? i mean, at this precise moment in time. It's pretty apparent that the economy is grinding to a halt because of the desire to stem the "spread". Don't see a lot in that comment that really addresses Dmac's question. What am i missing?

Kushner’s Claims About National Stockpile Contradicted by Trump’s Own Administration

...and you have to ask yourself, what is UP with the disbanding of the federal group set up by Obama to focus on response to pandemics exactly like the one we have now?? In his eagerness to blot out All Things Obama, was this action a bit of a near-sighted blunder?

Who gives a rats... what you think. If you had a brain you'd see that I'm defending what's been done how its been done who's been doing it and the speed at which its been done. I look at things POSITIVELY. Trump or No Trump. Can anyone be deranged enough to think that any and all the points of the NEJM article posted earlier haven't been considered.

I think AZAR said yesterday he helped DEVELOP the pandemic response and has been implementing it.

Thanks 6', and I'm glad your wife made it through (sincerely). I suppose I'm one of those high risk people as well (age). I don't disagee that we can't shut down our economy (lives), that just won't work (good time to have a gun cuz it'll get real ugly pretty soon). My youngest one's place of employment is laying off 90 percent of its employees (not him) for the next few weeks...that aint good (and his place has retooled to make masks and medical clothing...on the owner's dime too). Again, I agree that it's not long that we can continue on like this. Wish I had some answers but I don't. Seems to me we need to be listening to researchers and experts in the field though and to be real clear I don't give a schidt what DJT and his son-in-law have to say about the situation, I'll listen to someone who I figure is a whole lot more knowledgeable and qualified than either one of those two. It's not time for politics, it's time for answers.
Been watching quite a bit of WW II stuff lately. Must be Adolf is a rock star when it comes to the ratings war as he's on an awful lot. When comparing the way Churchill delivers his speeches/messages to the country and the way DJT does...well, there really is no comparison. Wish I had more trust/confidence in him but I don't. I just want the truth and the facts.
Keep on keepin' on, brotha, wish you (and all) the best.

DMac: 6ft has a valid point. The Fanlax 'experts' don't have any unique solutions other than what everyone else already knows ('social distance to start') then let's hope for a fast vaccine (which is coming). Yet, the 'experts' primary ethos here seems to be Trump-bashing (when reality says the Chinese should be your first point of concern, by far).

So why ask 6ft that question, when the 'other side' of 'experts' seemingly bring so little to the table (unless you enjoy TDS-porn)?

The answer is, we all know what the answers are.

To the extent that anyone has offered anything uniquely positional, 6ft's replay that the economy is as important as the virus is worthy of reasoned debate. The fear hysteria seems juvenile and relatively ill-informed, if not spurious. I'd train my guns on the 'experts' who keep wasting our time, not folks seeking real solutions.

Anyway, hope all is well in your neck of the woods!

In the short term: stay inside, wash hands, stop smoking, drop weight, don't hoard, wear a mask. Beyond that: send the ventilators where they're needed. Geneva General has 2 confirmed cases ... there are probably 30 cases in the county ... for now others need the ventilators more than we do. [BTW ... still looking for the evidence that ventilators generally save lives in COVID cases]. Beyond that: short term economic relief ... some direct checks TO THOSE WHO NEED THEM ... other relief via debt forgiveness (eg, student loans). Infrastructure stimulus is a good idea for long term economy ... not just roads and bridges, but 5g networks, etc... yreat internet as public utility and subsidize (on line education today shows us this is necessary). Beyond that: health care for all. No one should be hesitating to see a doctor or dying for lack of money for insulin. Beyond that: a comprehensive plan for pandemic response at federal, state and county levels. Beneath it all: reestablish trust in public information by not lying. First step out of a hole: stop digging.

My question was not about what the other FanLax folks have to say, it was about his response to the recommendations from the linked article. I've clearly stated that I agree that you just can't shut the economy/country down....that won't end well.

Great post - as to your question on ventilators: they "save" lives by buying time for the body to heal. No ventilator would mean no way to get enough oxygen into the bloodstream, and that would kill someone directly.

The ultimate question is who is best to put on a ventilator - because the sicker they are as well as the longer they are on one the less likely this buying of time will matter. The Sermo link a couple of posts up shows that physicians in different countries are making differing decisions on ventilator use...

Not sure anyone really has an answer.
