The Orfling wrote: Sat Apr 27, 2024 5:47 am Good OT win. Credit to Bucknell for fighting back from several deficits but Navy got it done in the end. New season once the tournament begins. With a strong FOGO and a goalie that’s capable of getting very hot, as well as knowing they beat a top 5 team in JHU and have it in them to play with the best, here’s hoping the Mids can make a run.
old salt wrote: Sat Apr 27, 2024 2:18 am Upon further review -- Navy's Team D came up big on Bucknell's final possession during regulation.
Watch starting @ 2:09 remaining. With the game on the line, they didn't sit back & let Bucknell run a play, they attacked. Key on #41, he was remarkable.
@ 1:17 #41 almost got smoked by #17 sitting inside, who also got a shot off before getting hit....those plays build memory in the ole' rolodex to not forget about inside players and ball watching.

Amplo had a point, BU carried 7 men over on that final play in regulation...but come one man, do you really need to run on to the opposite of the field to get your point across

In final play of OT: Interesting decision by BU to put a SS on #28. And to add insult to injury, Navy's final play, was darned near the same offense BU runs....high wing dodge across the topside, with your adjacent outlet far away, making it a long slide for BU. Cottle adds a wrinkle, with a backside transfer of #2 and #43, keeping BU defense honest and making that late slide to 28 that much more critical; game over.

I will have to complain a bit, unless there is something going on I may have missed, but I did not see #27 in the game for Senior night. The lefty attackman is a good solid player.
Navy's first play in OT was a Cottle classic. 1-4-1 with 28 dodging from up top & a double mumbo on the crease & g.l.e. Nobody popped open but on the next play 28 got the matchup with a shorty that he was looking for.

Watch the replay. He clearly stepped on the line. The official who called it had an unobstructed view.
Just rewatched the goal should have been good. Ref bad call. How does the ref also not throw the flag for push with possession on #11 after getting beat to the inside. Waving off the goal change everything for seedings in the PLT.

Wow! Toomey sure has had Amplo's number. A 5-2 record against him. Does Navy come out and get the W?

If you watch the slow motion replay you will see that his right foot was on the yellow line when he launched into the dive before he shot.
Two officials had unobstructed views & did not hesitate in waving off the goal.
The official behind #55 raised his arm as soon as #55 stepped on the line, signifying a penalty, before #55 took the shot.
Bucknell did not challenge the call & ask for a video review.

Predictions for Tuesday evening? Heart says Navy. Head says Loyola. I have faith in Amplo. But Toomey, more than any other Patriot League coach, sure has had his number!

Why does Navy host the Loyola game? Both have 5-3 league records but Loyola owns the head-to-head win. Shouldn't they host the Tuesday game?

I think the winner of the Loyola Navy game is going to the PL final. Can’t see us losing to Lehigh again.

Big game tonight.

For sure! Wow, would that be something if Navy wins the tournament and avenges ALL THREE of their conference losses!?

Last meeting, JJ6 had 4 (unassisted) goals, and we struggle with assists in general...which means a lot of things, of most importance, w/out someone beating their man, our offense struggles to to find skip passes and draw doubles for the assist. I believe we will be relying heaving on F/O and Goalie play to keep this close....along with unsettled (in the grey) plays. The good thing is that we finally have a F/O player (wings are still a big work in progress) to avoid make it takes by the opposing team, which helps Amplo give the defensive/rope unit the green light to push transition.

Midweek games are often games within a game, and with the added heat, bench depth and the 4th quarters strongest legs may very well be the decider. We will need all our SSDM's locked in.

Youth called it: goalie play, and the FO advantage was the difference. Despite 23 ( ) turnovers, Navy found a way to win. Good to get the PL tournament monkey off their backs. Well done, Mids!

Great win ! This team is playing much better than when they last met Lehigh.

Great Team D vs a very skilled Loyola offense. Held them scoreless for a 22:58 stretch.

Much improved ball movement. 8 of 12 goals were assisted. 8 different goal scorers. EMO working.

16 of Navy's 23 turnovers were caused by Loyola. 5 of Loyola's 12 turnovers were caused by Navy.
That means each team had only 7 uncaused turnovers. The rest could be considered to be "takeaways".
Navy's #10 & #2 were working inside a lot. Between them they had 7 TO's but scored 3 goals in the process.
Loyola's 3 top ssdm's have a total of 33 CT's for the season (11 each)
Not unreasonable in a win-or-go-home PLT game where both teams were selling out.
Navy won the GB stats 37-32. Navy won the FO stats 18-8.

Great win for the Mids. Navy had the answer all night long. Many teams right now would be delighted to have the combination of Hayashi at FOGO and Daly in goal. Now, if they can just cut down on those turnovers . . .
