I’ll go with Connor DeSimone,

the past years couldn’t have been easy,
such a simple move, DeSimone at attack,

he definitely gets a lot of character points in
how he’s turned things around.

I believe DeSimone has another year of eligibility left. That means the attack trio of Epstein, DeSimone, and Grimes could return intact next season.

Regarding Grimes, I think it’s just a matter of time before he breaks through. If you want to see what Grimes can do, just take a look at his wing dodge and shot before Keough scored the Blue Jays’ third goal. Grimes hasn’t played much lacrosse the past few years. Once he settles in, we’re going to have a monster attack. Coach Milliman is obviously investing heavily in the young man.

Peeking ahead to Rutgers. A lot of familiar faces. With a win and an OSU loss to maryland we'd stand alone at 2 in the conference. Would be quite a moment. Like how Rutgers comms highlights their majors. Some smart kids on that roster.

Testudo Times thought faceoff was a SK weakness but they held up ok today. Going to be another defensive test. Charambides first redshirt year was 2014-2015 which featured this Hopkins roster.

C'mon quit knocing D3 we sent you one of our finest Bullets! I would love to have hin when Coach Jancyk is gone, but I fear Coach Milliman has had a taste of the big city.
Congrats on a great win, it was really fun to watch.

They Jays certainly showed improvement this week.
I like how the coaches saw what needed to get fixed, the play between the lines, and fixed it including making personnel changes.
Wow, haven't seen that in a while. The old staff didn't believe in changes after the season started. Go figure.
The defense really looked good. I like how their sticks were active knocking down balls left and right and making interceptions.
If they can continue the upward trajectory this team could make some noise.
It looks like the era of smurf ssdms has come to a close. Thank God. Or rather thank Peter Milliman.

Looking at the roster, anyone have info on why they didn’t elect a player to wear the Huber 19? It seemed like a nice tribute.

That was a good roster ... including a couple of Stanwicks and a Tinney ... and a good season (Final Four), but tinged with heartache and sadness with the passing of #19, Jeremy Huber. :|

How time flies ... albeit not for Charambides, I guess.

Rutgers didn’t do much better than Hopkins against the Terps. Should be a good, competitive game next week between Rutgers and Hopkins.

Game stories:

IL - https://www.insidelacrosse.com/article/ ... tate/57469
Lax Mag - https://www.uslaxmagazine.com/college/m ... sts-hobart
Sun - https://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/col ... story.html
Hop Sports (w/ Milliman interview) - https://hopkinssports.com/news/2021/3/1 ... state.aspx

Some other notables:

- Reinson's last three games: 4 GB 2 CT, 3 GB 2 CT, 4 GB 2 CT
- Cole shooting 43% this year
- DeSo 17 pts and only 3 turnovers on 52% shooting. Is that good

DeSo, Keogh, Narewski, Reinson, Lilly all look like better players than when we saw them last in 2020. A decent sign for player development moving forward (to say nothing of guys like Delaney, Deans, Mabbett, etc.)

Rutgers can run and they score in flurries. Very skilled and experienced attack and they have at least 1 or 2 middies who might cause trouble for our shorties. Their defense however has been up and down. Might be a relatively high scoring game

Tonight marks the 15th anniversary of the Duke “baseball” team hiring strippers.

15 years - and it significantly affected Hopkins. The coaching dominoes of losing Seth Tierney to the opening at Hofstra affected the Jays for over a decade. Sure, they won in 2007 and 2nd in 2008, but that was with horses already in the stable, with one in particular named Rabil.

Never underestimate the far ranging impacts of being stupid.

And that includes on message boards.

-I rewatched the game, the fake noise at the start of the game sucked, glad they got rid of it
-Pescko and raposo got in early in 2nd.Peschko got first line middie reps later on. he's 6'4. Martin another frosh had a nice clear, they're giving more kids run.
-they continue to believe in zinn, he had a nice ct late.
-started 0-3 on faceoffs, then 12-3, not sure what jameson did well there.
-quint commentary at 23 in, "It's a fan base full of know it alls, dave cottle calls it a job in dog years, you get emails from people talking about games in 1957". He'd been waiting a long time to let that one fly.
-They used the game note thing about position changes, which was first noted here.
-"5/6 top offensive players were top 10 IL recruits and schnellenberger isn't on that list, 18 IL rated recruits" . Message board theory we're finished w kiddos isn't quite there.
-lilly/mabett 6'4, 6'5. lot more size than we had in past there.
-7th on emo coming in, was not aware we were that good.

For all the fawning by some over Bobby Benson this attack and mid group is being made over in front of us and it’s better. The Deso and Williams switch has been a huge upgrade. I would argue that both are benefiting. We are starting to see a relegation of some experienced players to the bench. Baskin and Shilling come to mind. Zinn is playing more face off wing and ssdm. That was never going to happen without the change. Would Epstein have played wing as an attack with the old regime? Not likely. He was going to be at X until his eligibility ran out. In short credit goes to Coach Grant for making changes and tinkering with the roster.

Also of note, Keogh has come back better from a knee injury than any other Hopkins player in recent history. He appears faster and quicker. I’m sure that took an amazing amount of effort in rehab.

What makes you say that?

Benson's UMd offense is #2 in D1 at 17.5 goals per game.

Hopkins isn't in the top 30.

Agree on Baskin—his role has clearly been reduced in the last few games. But not sure Shilling is seeing any less time than he used to—in fact not only is he still on EMO but he also occasionally spells Epstein or Grimes in 6-on-6. He came on for Grimes in the second half...the fact that it was him and not Chauvette tells me Chauvette must be hurt. It was hard to tell who the guys in street clothes were. Calnan and Brunner were two and obviously Fernandez was another but there were 2 or 3 more.

Keogh is a nice story...has dealt with a lot of serious injury in a short amount of time and he looks better than ever. Not easy to come back the way he did to now start on the first middie line and deservingly so. Williams-Angelus-Keogh is a solid group and they can beat you in a variety of ways.

He's comparing our offense this year to the one last year and in years prior, not to Maryland's this year. Thought that was blindingly obvious but apparently not.

There was no fake crowd noise on ESPNU. If you're watching on YouTube I think that was added in by whoever uploaded the game.

That’s his doing? Self admittedly he’s already said that everything was in place and he’s just trying to coach skills and act as a consultant. Systems and personnel were already in place when he arrived and they haven’t made changes on his watch.

Ok that could be my poor eyesight as I thought Shilling was replaced on the man up unit.

Yeah....no he wasn't, and you know it. If that's what he meant, he would have said "compared with our offense last year....." and left Benson out of it.

I'm glad you guys are happy with your offense.

There is no universe in which he meant we currently have a better offense than Maryland's. He's comparing our reformed/made-over unit under the new OC to the previous one under the former guy. The Benson part was because there were and still are defenders of his past Hopkins offenses. The post had literally nothing to do with Maryland. Read the sentence again please.

That's great. Your conclusion still doesn't make any sense. You're making it sound like you think Benson was the problem on offense the last few years.....when Hopkins clearly doesn't have a top offense as yet in 2021 now that he's gone. Yet.

Personally? I think it's telling that Benson is responsible for Maryland's offense in 2021....and they're lighting it up. You can diminish his coaching at UMd all you like, I guess.

Well, they're still scoring at the same rate they were before..which is why I asked "what makes you say that?"

E.g., you're not scoring more this year compared with years past. Yet.

I just thought it was an odd conclusion.

Well, now that's why I pointed out that Benson is doing just fine with Maryland's offense. It's a reasonable thing to point out, don't you think?

I wonder who made that call.
Was it Grant, was it Milliman, did they both quickly reach
the same conclusion ?
Talking, DeSimone and Williams.
