That’s so strange because just this week I thought there was ample evidence of massive vote fraud by a Democrat for Democrats:

https://www.phillyvoice.com/voter-fraud ... -machines/
How massive is it when it is overvoting for a single person in a very local race for judicial candidates?
In May 2014, DeMuro inflated vote totals by adding 27 fraudulent ballots in the primary election, 40 votes in May 2015, and 46 in 2016, according to court documents outlining the scheme and the charges against him.
(Philadelphia Inquirer yesterday)

Yup, just massive. Given that it is over multiple elections it is small in comparison to the NC congressional race that had to be redone...
small?
It's tiny!

But yeah, of course, a D or an R knucklehead is bound to try some shenanigans...and nail them when they do, please.

But silly season to suggest anything 'massive'. Of course, there are some folks who claim their own 'peckers' are 'massive' when they're quite the opposite...small hands...

Try some math - 1285 cases compared to nearly 130 million votes cast in the last presidential election (and not all of those cases were for the 2016 election). No impact on that election.

Now in a very local election in a small place this might possibly be a more serious problem. Which is why any election official should be auditing every election, and if there is a problem track it down and prosecute. But absolutely no reason to avoid mail balloting. (Try calculating the percentage of votes -> a thousandth of a percent of the vote totals in the 2016 presidential race.)

Neat. Wake me up when Republican- States end mail in voting, and lose allllll those elderly votes.

Not in some states. There's already heavy mail in voting, with tiny voter fraud.

Here's the thing. With paper ballots, whether mailed or not mailed, they can be audited.
Auditing is important to prevent nefarious activity and to catch any wrong-doers (and punish it hard), but the fact that it's paper, mailed or not, makes it WAY easier to catch, and thus prevent.

It would be interesting. I suspect the race would be closer. How much closer? Don’t know.

If Trump loses, I imagine the virus will be a significant factor. Maybe the most significant.

I have been saying for a long time that the virus is a pass/fail test for Trump. If the virus numbers continue to go down, and if there is no second wave before the election, and if the economy significantly bounces back, Trump could well win. But those are a lot of ifs. We still have five months to go. And we are sure to have a lot of October surprises from both sides.

“It’s the economy, stupid.”

Dems had no case for their nominee when the economy was booming 3 mos ago. They have a good chance now if they can keep the economy down for the next 5 mos and maybe get a second wave. Or finagle the media/ numbers to show a “potential” second wave coming...

The economy has absolutely nothing to do with the election, just as it had nothing to do with the last election.

The norovirus won't change a single vote. Not one. I was dumb enough to think that a few months ago, but Trump's performance in the pandemic is irrelevant to voting.

It's about turnout. Just like the last election.

Don't believe me? Question: have any TrumpFans on this site changed their mind about the man? Please. Nothing Trump has done or could have done would change your mind, or change your vote. US elections are forever changed. Policy is immaterial to how people vote. Trump could murder puppies on national TV, and he wouldn't lose a single vote that he already had.

Haha. I was thinking about quoting Carville, but didn't.

People (in general) make the mistake of thinking the electorate is static from one election to the next. It isn't. Some number of voters die in the intervening four years. Another four years of young voters become eligible. Some (many?) voters shift from D to R or R to D over the course of their lives. You might think that shift is gradual, and perhaps so, but there likely is one election in which the shift actually happens.

Some think voters' views are set in stone, and the large majority certainly are, but I think there are still some true swing voters who might go either way. I suspect this is less true with Trump -- people either love him or hate him -- but I think in general there are some number of actual swing voters. Anecdotally, there are a good number of voters who voted for Obama then Trump.

But back to the economy, yeah, I think it will be very important in November, whether it has recovered (favors Trump) or is still in the doldrums (favors Biden). Look at the last two incumbents who lost (Carter and HW Bush). Both lost largely because of the economy. I suspect some number of voters switched sides in their second elections. I think a critically important factor that helped Obama win in 2008 was the tanking economy.

None of this diminishes the importance of turn out, which of course is critical.

He's done something to earn your vote, as opposed to he's done something to lose your vote?

And Biden's VP is actually a deciding factor?

Seriously, I know a whole lot of people who pulled the lever for Trump who are now loathe to do so again. At a very minimum, they are disappointed and discouraged by him.

Many thought it would be good to have a businessman and they wrongly thought he'd actually been a success as a businessman...at a minimum, they knew, he wasn't a traditional politician.

In general, they assumed he'd 'act more Presidential' once in office. Oops.

They didn't see the racism and nativism. Rather, they did think there was something 'weak' in the various 'apologies' and bowing to the importance of international organizations of the prior administration. They were frustrated with the status quo. But not the economy, that was moving inexorably better and better and better (but they do watch nearly exclusively Fox, so the notion that it hadn't been fast enough was a common theme).

But most importantly, they viscerally disliked Clinton.

Now, will these folks make the difference? Probably not. Most of them aren't in swing states (other than Florida) and they may or may not be representative of attitudes there. Turnout is indeed going to be essential for the Dems.

But Trump has put a hard lid on his turnout and he's provided enormous motivation for turnout of Dem voters.

Where I think this pandemic and its impact on health and the economy come most into play has been the slippage of support from older white voters for Trump. That's been a big slide.

Unless that rebounds, Trump is done.
Assuming a reasonably fair count.
