The person potentially raped would rather have the gun. Who on this board has suggested all weapons be banned? "2nd Amendment" nut jobs make this sort of argument.
ANY regulation must mean we want ALL guns banned.
Not unlike the abortion nut jobs who say that Choice means women want to and will use late stage abortion as birth control.
Reality is not the objective.
The disappointing thing is that this sort of argumentation actually gets cheered by a big segment of our population.

What was the point of your question and who here as suggested all guns be banned….also, what politicians have introduced such legislation? Those should be simple enough questions for you to answer.youthathletics wrote: ↑Thu Dec 28, 2023 5:13 pmThat is a really odd observation. As TLD commented, no one on these threads is advocating that ALL guns be banned...you asked a dumb question IMO. Who are you trying to pick a fight with with that question?youthathletics wrote: ↑Thu Dec 28, 2023 5:13 pmThat is a really odd observation. And no, while Trump says he'll do so quickly, I don't think it will be "overnight".

Well, here’s a sobering stat.
“Though police described Morgan’s killing of his wife and their children as a murder-suicide, such crimes since the 1980s have been known as family annihilations.
Communities often view such crimes as isolated tragedies, especially in the US. But an Indianapolis Star investigation found there had been an average of one family annihilation in the US every five days since 2020.”[/]

Re: Sensible Gun Safety
Nice start to 2024. Price of a life set at $232.90 worth of shoplifted beer. Be guilty of twenty-two years of service to a community, with a dozen of those as a victims advocate, and your reward is to get gunned down in broad daylight by a crew criminally utilizing a (I'll take "It's 99.9% likely" for $100, Alex") illegal firearm to murder in cold blood.
https://greensboro.com/news/local/crime ... 70f30.html
The alleged perpetrator's ultimate goal: sell shoplifted beer to get cash to buy and use drugs. After getting high, they discuss disposal of firearm and plates for car (both stolen?). Meanwhile, at the same time, our fallen officer (husband, father, son, brother, colleague, net giver to his community) lays cold on a slab in the morgue.
In a twisted irony the middle name of the 18 year old alleged "trigger-child" is Justice. As we know, 15-19 year old "children" pad out the "Guns are the number one killers of children!" Mainstream Media & Gun Control lobby narrative "scaretistic".
Yup, we need to take the guns from law-abiding, legal firearm owning "2nd Amendment" nut jobs. There's only 20,000 current gun laws on the federal, state, and local books at this time. Tacking on a few dozen (hundred, thousand?) more - bigger, better, smarter, faster, stronger, shinier ones - and poof! - problem solved. Criminals will magically stop criminal-ing! And rehabilitated violent criminals released back into society will magically stop their pesky chronic re-criminal-ing!
Keep your loved ones close. Their lives are only worth $232.90 each.
Yes, I'm posting this a bit hungover (wine and champagne don't mix), tired, cranky, bitchy, angry, hyperbole and indignation laden, and deflated. And my useless spouse forget to buy coffee yesterday when dispatched on a grocery run with a clear mandate. Didn't forget the cake and ice cream, though. Gotta do everything myself if I want it done right! Except when I'm useless.
Hope you all had a safe and happy holiday and new years. And that 2024 will find us all seeing progress toward finding better communities, connection, and care for our fellow humans.

This slice of the "criminal violence pizza" is a particularly sobering and horrific one. A good start in understanding the underlying causes and psychopathy can be gleaned here, in a study of the phenomenon in 18 countries. It isn't unique to the USA.
https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.117 ... 8018821955
A focus on USA's scourge:
https://jmvr.org/2022/02/out-of-sight-o ... 2006-2017/
Some Cliffs Notes:
Offender characteristics: In the vast majority of cases, the offenders were male. In the nine studies that reported on the age of the offender, the mean age ranged from 35 to 43, and based on two studies, between 31% and 41% of offenders were unemployed. Three studies reported on the mental health of the offenders. The reported prevalence of depression varied between 13% and 69%, whereas between 13% and 44% of offenders had a history of mental health treatment. According to one study, psychotic disorder and substance abuse disorder had been diagnosed in 17% and 22% of the offenders, respectively. Five studies reported on the offenders’ history of criminal behavior. The prevalence of domestic violence reported in three studies ranged between 39% and 92%.
Motives: 71% of motives concerned a conflict between the parents. 29% were connected to the offenders’ life situation (unemployed, bankruptcy). Fear of abandonment (22%). Narcissistic rage (26%). Psychosis (22%). 60% of offenders as primarily suicidal. 40% had a homicidal motive. Some felt killing their families would "save their families" from embarrassment of loss of financial or societal status. A clear trigger in the parental conflict causation is divorce and child custody. "Punishing" a spouse by killing the children and/or them as the result of loss of custody, jealousy, infidelity, are all significant factors. In addition, some researchers comment upon the USA's divorce/custody playing field being tilted toward a clear advantage for mothers as opposed to fathers.
All in all, these are horrific and headline grabbing crimes. And certainly the intersection of "saw it coming" and availability of firearms to effectively carry out these criminal acts creates a very difficult challenge for policy makers, the courts, and mental health care professionals. Imho, when Red Flag laws can get balanced by incorporating severe punishment for misuse and a right of a flagged individual to appear in court, with a provided lawyer, to face accusers, and have all present "sort out the need for or against" confiscatory intervention of firearms, I would think there would be a noticeable reduction in these acts when coupled with better mental health care safety and support networks.
These incidents kick us in the gut.

A retired number at one of my old college programs is a kid who got killed in a car-jacking his sophomore year 40+ years ago. Pretty much nothing of value in an old beat up car.
