Re: D1 Men Rankings

Virginia at #1 is fine. You can make an argument for them, UNC, Duke or Maryland quite frankly and all are more than defensible. (I'd probably go with UNC based on what I've seen, but it's close).
I listened to Quint on a podcast with Terry Foy last week and it has become all too apparent that Quint is not really following lacrosse too closely anymore. He was off base on so many subjects and had no idea where certain big name transfers ended up. Foy ended up having to explain some of the early games results to Quint because he didn't watch or read about them.HopFan16 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 12:03 pmVirginia at #1 is fine. But Quint moved Georgetown DOWN from last week. I repeat: down. He moved them from 10 to 11 after they had the most dominant performance of the year against a team most people think is top 20 caliber.
Everyone has their own criteria, but you have to apply it consistently week to week.
The fact that they are losing to Bellarmine in the 3rd means they probably shouldn't be in the top 20 even if they pull out the win. How teams look during games should matter in addition to the final results of those games.Farfromgeneva wrote: ↑Sun Feb 28, 2021 2:27 pm Delaware needs to beat Bellarmine today for them to be considered, losing 10-9 in 3rd...
Outside of DocB I feel like we are pretty realistic and not overly homerish. I don't think anyone cares a whole lot if we're ranked right now or not. It's hard to compare some of these teams against ones that haven't played yet or are beating up on D2 teams like BU...Farfromgeneva wrote: ↑Sun Feb 28, 2021 2:20 pm Hop, someone else can call that one. Hard to say they deserve it, but I'm sure their supporters will argue the projected version of the program down the road so I don't want to kick up that dirt.
Is merrimack worse than Michigan? I agree on Hobart, but projecting on two games at 1-1 vs no games isn't a big stretch. Note I questions PSU and UMass placement as well, so it's not picking on JHU but I'm also not doing a Fatty "11-0 vs the YWCA teams should be top 5" routine either. Layering in a little of last year, little of in place games and a little projection.HopFan16 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 28, 2021 2:30 pmThe fact that they are losing to Bellarmine in the 3rd means they probably shouldn't be in the top 20 even if they pull out the win. I’d definitely put Rutgers and probably Notre Dame (after watching them play against RM) above anybody with a loss.Farfromgeneva wrote: ↑Sun Feb 28, 2021 2:20 pm Seems like UMass should come down until they start playing given theri circumstances at the moment, but I guess that won't happen.
I think they're still talented but what is the basis for even keeping PSU in the rankings other than they lost to two very good teams?
Could argue for Rutgers and Notre Dame in front of Army for the time being I would think. Army has the nice Syracuse with but is offset by the UVA loss which looks less good now.
Think I'd have Navy above the SoCon schools at the moment. Lehigh has me pretty interested.

Honestly I think I'd have a few schools in that spot, perhaps Bryant, Del, Marist, Hobart or Boston U for example but it's 20 in a Covid manipulated short early season poll.
I think your top 6 are the right 6 in some order. Any of the top 3 can be argued as #1 right now in my opinion - pick your poison.DU-fan wrote: ↑Sun Feb 28, 2021 3:09 pm Revised based on good feedback:

I am not sure on JHU. Time will tell. It is very hard to compare teams in different conferences. That will get even tougher in a month.
Georgetown is too high @ 4. 5-9 would beat them. Season is young and we’ll see how it all shakes out.DU-fan wrote: ↑Sun Feb 28, 2021 3:09 pm Revised based on good feedback:
