Taylor has had some good moments but he's at almost exactly 50% over two seasons — feel like that warrants some competition. Makes a lot of sense if he's got a brother there already
My thought exactly. Plus, Shane Carr (UM Back-Up/Former Starter) just graduated. At the very least, it's always nice to have a solid back up. Will be interesting to see where he lands, I am sure it'll be a D1.

Big pickup for Jays. Staudt was Loyola’s best player. I’d rate him above Ierlan.

How long before we see a Hop goalie in the transfer portal? Gonna hurt possibly seeing Stoudt in the goal at Ridley next year and will not receive any love during the game. But once it’s over, always a Greyhound! Great player, even better person! But just a reminder, he still needs to win the job.

I’ve heard lots of talk about Renner going to Michigan. First time was during an NE10 rivalry game. I believe this is where he will land. It was posted in the d2 subject but has since been deleted. Adelphi was very good but is Michigan biting off a little more than he can chew?

It's telling that so many High School All Americans and top recruits stayed at Hopkins despite riding the bench for years. The degree and team culture matters.

Looks like it’s worked out pretty well too from a lax standpoint this last 15 years

Yes, many could have abandoned the program during its recent losing seasons.

Penn State: Jack Aimone (M, Rutgers)
He brings some size with him, which is what PSU needs.

Very good get. At worst, adds significant depth. At best, an experienced starter.

Staudt is a very good pick up. He didn't always have good defenses in front of him, which is why he some nearly 20-save games against good competition. He also didn't have a good offense at the other end of the field for his last 2 years at Loyola, so he had a ton of pressure of him to keep the Hounds in a lot of games.

Looking at Loyola's adjusted offense and defense for even just the past 2 seasons...19th and 26th on offense and defense, respectively, in 2024 and 32nd and 27th on offense and defense, respectively, in 2023. Add in that Loyola's face-off play on an adjusted basis were 64th and 61st in 2024 and 2023, respectively.

You put him in front of that Hop defense..6th and 7th in 2024 and 2023, respectively...and things look a lot different for him.

And good god, I just peeped Hop's adjusted goalie play. Before 2023, their highest ranking was 17th but spent most of the time between 2015 and 2022 ranked in the 40s. Whew.

I believe Hopkins in the past 10 years had one goalie above 50% save percentage prior to Ierlan. It was a sad state of affairs to put it mildly with poor goalie development. The recent Assistant coach hire (Brian Kelly) has done wonders as he focuses on goalie development: https://hopkinssports.com/staff-directo ... -kelly/442

Luke also had to deal with a 40% FO win rate at Loyola as others noted too.

Goalie development during the Benson/Dwan/Petro years was definitely a mixed bag. Heck, even Larry Quinn couldn’t fix things.

I always thought it was a bad sign when I read that Benson and Petro attended a Trevor Tierney seminar on coaching goalies. Nothing bad about the seminar itself … but rather the fact they felt compelled to go and get some tips.

Quinnipiac's Ryan Donnery to Ohio State https://x.com/MChandik26/status/1798372487740412109

Many of OSU's best offensive players this year and next are transfers from Quinnipiac, Binghamton, Cleveland State, Fairfield, and York College. Quite the indictment of their recruiting IMO

You're probably right. A family friend who is there now completely changed positions in an effort to get on the field. A bit crazy to me given all of the sweat & toil and obvious other options vis a vis the portal.

A ton of recruits leave because their coach is an jerk. Screams constantly. I remember a kid who’d played for him on US U21 team who decomitted after his US team tourney because he couldn’t fathom spending 4 years with this guy.

there are still lots of kids in college for academics, and lax is just the icing.
