Trump re-election message?
Economy - Rebuild and continue pre-CV19 success. Business leader over career politician.
Deficit - Guided the unprecedented response of swift fiscal and monetary policy, kept the market from totally collapsing and the credit markets fluid.
Divided Country - Russian collusion anyone? 3 years of emotion, energy, and money wasted on this 'hoax'. Media in the drivers seat. Shenanigans from the FBI and various elected officials.
World - Has NATO collapsed? Or strengthened? North Korea blown up the world? Russia invaded anyone? ISIS? Iran? World is as dangerous as always.
USMCA strengthens our relationship with border neighbors? Support of Brexit and potential new trade deal as well. True China in much better focus now.
What's Biden's message? https://nypost.com/2020/05/09/bidens-ca ... not-trump/
The White House
@WhiteHouse
"We have met the moment, and we have prevailed." — President @realDonaldTrump pic.twitter.com/FuAyRzXzCz
Which strangely the White House Twitter feed has removed...
I don't think we've quite hit the tipping point where this loss of support is baked in for November, but if he continues to dismiss the virus and urges behaviors that inevitably will lead to new blooms, and ultimately a wave in the fall, this will become overwhelming.
It'll disappear magically
We have prevailed
These are the Trump and Trumpist base/media messages.
Not reality, the world I live in and so many seniors live in.
TDS insanity
I'm counting on science to solve the virus so long as politics doesn't get in the way.

In the meantime, people need to work and care for their families. Kids/teachers need to get back to school.
As stated before...no right answers, no easy choices. Our new reality is a balancing act.
Total BS, PB. All in service of R tribalism. If you ain't R you are the enemy (D, Ind.)Peter Brown wrote: ↑Tue May 12, 2020 10:32 amtech37 wrote: ↑Tue May 12, 2020 10:22 amI'm counting on science to solve the virus so long as politics doesn't get in the way.

Democrats will be for choking off the economy until the day after the election. On that special day, they will magically pivot 180 degrees and demand the economy re-open. Their prime interests are less about 330,000,000 persons' welfare and far more about political power. Everything is a means to an end. Don't believe anything anyone says otherwise. This is who they are. I might know what I'm saying since since I was in the front row there for many years. This is a disgraceful Party with disgraceful policies; the few good guys left are trying to stem a very powerful tide of anti-American ideation; it ain't easy.

covid19-projections.com (https://covid19-projections.com/sweden) show about 8% of Swedes infected by early August. Need 1-1/R_0 for herd immunity - if R_0 is 3 that is 67%, if 2.4 (one recent estimate) that is 58%.Peter Brown wrote: ↑Tue May 12, 2020 11:07 am (omitted)
Trump needs to push all levers now. Dems will continue to be flies in the ointment of the economy, regardless of facts.
Open up with a defined process, starting with schools for youngsters and working your way up to colleges. The Swedish way was always going to be the winner.

Gets me to vote for Biden, first time I'll have ever voted for a Dem for President ever...4 decades of voting.
Of course, you also left off a variety of other messages Trump will be sending his base about why to vote for him, not the Dem...
Why not say "We are meeting the moment, and we are prevailing"? Doesn't that work better? In an attempt to be profound and emphatic, Trump's statement only invites the never-Trumpers and the TDS'ers to jump on his words. Nobody is ready to spike the ball but Trump seems to have misconstrued that apparently (to some).

They cannot postpone the election without Congressional legislation which Is unlikely under any scenario. A COVID wave will likely result in large increases in mail balloting which will need to be dealt with on a state by state basis. IMHO there is no chance that there will not be an election in November.MDlaxfan76 wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 7:35 am Yes, that's the back-up plan to Nigel's description of the Trump playbook and calorie's description of the 'whole enchilada' strategy.
No COVID wave, Trump elected.

DOPUS is in trouble regardless of COVID wave or not unless there is a complete economic turnaround which also is not likely.
2020 election could be a repeat of 2008 with GOP losing Senate and WH as well as failing to recapture the House.

So last night there were two special election in California and Wisconsin. Dems yesterday were all bleating on about how a victory in both would portend a 'Democratic blue wave in November'. In the California district #25, the Republican was seen as a clear underdog. Trump came out strong for both candidates. Dems were giddy.
Oooops. Republicans won both elections (though you still can't count out Democratic voting fraud in California, so we may need to wait a week to see how many ballots the Democratic state apparatus could mail before midnight last night; generally Democratic voting fraud is only used when the election is very tight, and this one so far is not tight enough for the fraud to count much, still I never count Dems out)!! This is the first Democratic seat to switch to Republican in California since 1998. Stories on MSM news this morning: zero.
Moral of the day: don't go full communist. Americans are rejecting the Democratic desire to seize up the economy.

Sorry, that makes clear that the Wisconsin seat was expected R, but if close it could be a positive signal in the fall. The CA seat was taken for the first time by a Dem, Katie Hill, who resigned in scandal. Hill had won in the '18 blue wave, with some bona fides and appeal that crossed over. But the scandal scuttled that. The Dem candidate is indeed unpopular in that normally red district.Peter Brown wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 9:11 amMDlaxfan76 wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 9:05 amPB, actually both were expected to go R, but anything close would be an issue.Peter Brown wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 8:32 amKismet wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 7:46 amThey cannot postpone the election without Congressional legislation which Is unlikely under any scenario. The people will reject the Democratic effort to stall the economy.
