Of course Trump is a pretty dim bulb. But I wonder if his bad performance yesterday was because of his vanity in addition to dumbness.

As a 70+ year old, he probably needs reading glasses in many situations. As an old guy, he might also be partially blinded by the bright TV lights shined at him. Could be he doesn't read well/much because he doesn't want to be seen in the granny glasses that he probably needs. Here's all the mistakes he made in that one short stretch of his speech:

"In June of 1775, the Continental Congress created a unified Army out of the Revolutionary Forces encamped around Boston and New York, and named after the great George Washington, commander in chief." [The army wasn't named after Washington. The Continental Congress named Washington to lead the army.]

"The Continental Army suffered a bitter winter of Valley Forge." [At Valley Forge, not of.]

"found glory across the waters of the Delaware and seized victory from Cornwallis of Yorktown." [The text probably said something about crossing the Delaware, not across the Delaware. Cornwallis wasn't from Yorktown. He was defeated AT Yorktown.]

"Our Army manned the air, it rammed the ramparts, it took over the airports." [Trump appears to now be talking about the War of 1812, since ramparts is in the wording of the Star Spangled Banner. And also bombs bursting in "air." Either really bad editing and speech writing (awful transition) or Trump missed a section of the text. If he's talking about 1812, the reference might make sense if it was ports rather than airports. Since the Brits blockaded American ports during that war.]

"it did everything it had to do, and at Fort McHenderey, under the rocket’s red glare it had nothing but victory. And when dawn came, their star-spangled banner waved defiant." What I'm a little perplexed by and, though I hate to admit this to those of lesser-amounts-of-empathy, is that there are people who are justifying the treatment of the immigrants, specifically the children. Some cases justifying the cruelty, some cases denying the cruelty. Strikes me as odd or, more accurately... Just hard to admit that we live in a country with people that are so void of empathy. Obviously this isn't a new phenomena nor is it isolated to this country. But still a difficult thing to look at. It literally weighs me down, wears me down.

Nothing is stopping you from providing aid and residency to illegal aliens at the border. No one forced them to come here, except for those who were kidnapped by coyotes and sex traffickers in which our amazing CBP personnel work tirelessly to help those in need. They can return to their country of origin at any time. Remember, Obama set up these detention centers while President. Did you complain then? Where’s your empathy to the American families who’ve lost loved ones at the hands of illegal aliens? Also, they are treated much better than what the media reports. The head of one of the facilities in Tucson, Arizona provides evidence that these detainees are treated inhumanely is just untrue. Enlighten yourself with facts instead of use emotion. Facts > emotion every time.
