thanks. selfishly, any chance you could post uva while eliminating their 4th quarter or 2nd half vs harvard?

Unfortunately, beyond my time/energy for this graphic. I will say that when I last checked, UVA's adjusted efficiency without garbage time was only 2 spots worse than with all stats included. So it wouldn't move them as much as you would think.

I am sure this has been discussed before here but as a former pole I have always hoped there would be more defensive stats. Watching lax this weekend, I saw some great defensive performances but they barely, if at all, show up in the stat line. What would be some other metrics for a defender to garner beyond the CT or GB?

It's not really a novel stat, but I do calculate a CT:Pen ratio, similar to assist to turnover ratio for an offensive player. Obviously, creating turnovers is good, but if a defenseman can do it without creating any penalties, it's even more valuable.

Until we have better video tracking though, I think the things that really good defensemen do are always going to be invisible. On top of that, the most valuable stuff a defense does is through the interaction between multiple defensemen (sliding). I could see some awesome pairs stats related to sliding, but again, would need someone to build a technology to extract player location information from film.

I hear you. I just wish there was a better way. I watched a kid this weekend not show up on the stat page but stonewalled every dodge. I was impressed with his footwork and body position but he doesn’t even appear on IL stars bedside he likely didn’t have a CT or GB.

It may not seem like it, but I have no doubt that we'll get there. There are some smart people doing cool stuff in lacrosse and with these technologies established in other sports, it's just a matter of time before we have them in lacrosse too.

The same stats have been around forever so change is difficult. I liken it to football where sacks were the standard stat but then hurries and pressures were eventually added. I am sure someone way smarter than me will figure this out.

Past few seasons Cornell has been lower left quadrant of this chart, and still a top team. They are going to be a very tough out with both face-off and goalie play so much improved!

Shot-on-goal rate tends to be cited as a positive thing. But a high SOG rate can also mean a lot of shots being saved (and going the other direction). The key is to have a high SOG rate paired with a high on-goal shooting percentage (goals / on-cage shots).
