Your comment about the heat could also be applicable to Houston and my rugby post. The rugby schedules are similar to MLB in that the northern teams NY, Boston, Toronto and D.C. usually head south and west early then NOLA, Atl, Houston etc play up there to finish out the schedule. Even so, gotta be brutal for those boys as they’ll still be playing even a couple games when it’s 100.

Regarding your post about last year at the Aussie open and their Extreme heat policy, Houston P.D. has something similar. When the heat index hits 105, cops don’t have to comply with the mandatory policy and can choose to not wear their vests.

My wife is a huge tennis fan and she claimed the large family room TV this evening to watch Jessica win her third round match at the Aussie Open.
J Pegula won in straight sets to move on to 4th round against #5 seed Svitolina on Sunday.

Expecting a high of 69f in Melbourne on Sunday.
Another big win for Ms Pegula over Svitolina 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

Next match is against Jennifer Brady. Brady? Are you kidding me! Ewww.

After all the publicity Miss Jessie has been getting on this thread, I thought I’d watch this match.

A lot of the time, her game is very impressive. Big hitter. Goes for big shots and makes them. A courageous volleyer at times.

But she had trouble when she was ahead. Tried to give the match back a couple of times when she had it in hand, or close to in hand. Played tentatively, sometimes very tentatively.

But, to her credit, she pulled it out in the end.

Now she gets to play her friend, Brady (no relation to the Tampa Bay town drunk).

Watched Brady’s match as well. The commentators were a real treat for this old tennis fan: Chrissie and Cliffie. Can Cliff Drysdale really be almost 80?

Based on this extensive experience (having seen each play once), I’d put my money on Pegula. Now I’ve jinxed her for sure.

Some of the opinion coming out of Boston about Cam Newton, Mac Jones and the Patriots organization. Hilarious and true at the same time.

Some parts fascinating, some humorous--all informative as to how detailed and deceitful New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and assistant Ernie Adams were in operating a years long complex system of cheating, to become etched in sports infamy as Spygate.

Big change in NFL view on openly gay player:

Carl Nassib's NFL jersey a top seller after he says he's gay

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/ca ... uxbndlbing

Sales of Carl Nassib's jersey are jumping after the Las Vegas Raider this week became the first active player in the NFL to say that he's gay.

Nassib's No. 94 shirt was the top selling football jersey on Monday and Tuesday across all Fanatics-owned sports apparel websites, the company said, while declining to disclose specifics on sales. The jersey retailed for $120 at NFLShop.com.

Elsewhere, the demand for Nassib's autographed rookie card, game-worn jersey and other sports memorabilia has soared this week as well, said Jordan Gilroy, acquisitions director for New Jersey auction company Lelands. The eagerness for buying a lesser-known NFL player's merchandise typically lasts a month at max, Gilroy said, but if Nassib plays at a high level this fall for the Raiders, the auction bidding for his jersey and other memorabilia could climb even higher.

Hopefully, this will open the door for athletes in all other major leagues.

Greatest coach of all time?

In many circles, Bill Belichick is considered to be the greatest coach of all time. I don’t go along with that. First off, he had Tom Brady. Belichick has still not proved that he can win without him. And secondly, his notorious history of cheating which goes all the way back to when he played lacrosse.

+100 Anyone paying $120 to wear someone else's jersey is a fool, regardless of whos name is on it.

NEW YORK CITY, NY—Ever since the NFL's recent announcement that "football is gay," critics have challenged the organization to enact new enforcement measures to maintain an acceptable level of gayness at each game.

Starting this season, The National Football League will allow refs to throw rainbow-colored flags on the field if they catch any players not being gay enough.

"Listen-- it's 2021. Football is gay. Always has been," said Commissioner Roger Goodell. "Unfortunately, we still have a few players living in the past who need to get with the program. If we catch anyone in our league not being totally gay all the time, you can bet we'll be nipping that in the bud!"

Some of the new penalties being introduced include:

Failure to skip
Failure to cuddle after contact
Badly coordinated outfit
Not enough men on the field
Delay of coming out
Being Tim Tebow
Not enough holding

"We recognize that these penalties read like a bunch of bad jokes written by straight men, but this is the fi-- stop laughing! This is the first step towards a more inclusive NFL. Stop laughing!" explained Goodell.

Many fans are welcoming the changes, but some protested. Several disgruntled homophobes have announced they will no longer watch football and are switching to soccer.

Need to find new names for both wide receiver and tight end. No explanation needed 😁

Great little feature on the AFL New York Titans which segues into the change of the team ownership and name until they end up winning the Super Bowl in 1969.
