Maryland 2023
Re: Maryland 2023
Someone posted a bit back that Mcnaney with 1 loss in 2 years could of course become the Terps winningest goalie all time. I’m assuming becoming the winningest goalie in D1 history would also be on the table? Not sure how many they could drop to get there….
Re: Maryland 2023
If I'm not mistaken Dan Mackesey, Cornell 1976-1977, was 42-0 with back-to-back Natty's! Pretty hard to beat that...
Re: Maryland 2023
Wow! Guess that would be hard to beat….
Re: Maryland 2023
29 wins for Mackesey over the undefeated 1976-1977 period.
Also, Mike Federico, 40 and 2 with three straight national titles.
Matt Palumb, 42 and 1, three straight titles, one vacated.
Cornell website says Mackesey was 30-0, he won one game in
1975, with a .670 save percent.

Re: Maryland 2023
McNany, if I did the math correctly, is 35-1 so far through his career, which started in the 2020 season with a win against Notre Dame. He won 2 games in 2020 before the season shut down. Then the loss to UVA in 2021 and undefeated in 2022. Eligibility-wise, he's a junior this coming season (2020 with the COVID year). Gotta figure he's going to win in the vicinity of 30 games over the next two years.
Re: Maryland 2023
I think Galloway has the record with 59 wins. So McNaney, assuming he comes back for a 5th year, just needs 25 wins across 2 years to break it. Gotta imagine he can get that provided he stay healthy
Re: Maryland 2023
There’s not really an NCAA record for goalie wins,
I don’t believe they really keep that specific record,
though it sure sounds like Galloway would have that
presumptive record.
I know, or at least NCAA has a record which includes most
goalie games played, which is 71 games in net by
Blaze Riordan — again, not a record the NCAA officially tracks.

Just saying I mentioned this back in September!MDGrad2012 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 10, 2022 1:18 pm Something to watch for over the next couple of years: Logan McNaney has a really excellent chance of ending his career as the all time NCAA leader in goalie wins. I believe the record is currently held by John Galloway with 59. McNaney has two years of eligibility remaining and is at 35 already. This means MD needs 12.5 wins a season over his remaining eligibility for him to have the record alone. In 11 full seasons, Tillman averages over 14 wins a season. In the 7 BIG seasons, it is over 15. McNaney probably gets there with room to spare.

I believe Danny Fowler at Duke played in 73 games during his career! (He did play less minutes than Blaze, who owns the all-time record for minutes played as a goalie with 4,040)10stone5 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 07, 2022 1:52 pm There’s not really an NCAA record for goalie wins,

I don't know the young man, but I bet he'd most value having 3 NCAA championships over all else.

No surprise there...could argue it shoulda been Benson.

I suppose the emoji didn't give it away, it was a joke that Benson's offense made TIllman the easy pick.keno in reno wrote: ↑Fri Dec 09, 2022 9:59 pmWhen has an assistant been named coach of the year?youthathletics wrote: ↑Fri Dec 09, 2022 4:45 pm No surprise there...could argue it shoulda been Benson.

No I got it and I know it was just a spurious statement, but Tillman also has a pretty good record of making his assistants look pretty good too. Benson was fantastic, and hopefully he has great success at Providence. But there's a pretty good likelihood that all the great players on the field also made Benson's offense look better, including a face-off guy who got them the ball first 66% of the time.youthathletics wrote: ↑Sat Dec 10, 2022 7:50 amI suppose the emoji didn't give it away, it was a joke that Benson's offense made TIllman the easy pick.keno in reno wrote: ↑Fri Dec 09, 2022 9:59 pmWhen has an assistant been named coach of the year?youthathletics wrote: ↑Fri Dec 09, 2022 4:45 pm No surprise there...could argue it shoulda been Benson.
Re: Maryland 2023
Benson didn't install that offense. Reppert and Tills did for the 2020 COVID year. It was the same offense Bernhardt flourished in. It was the same offense that tore through D1 last year. Benson definitely added wrinkles, so kudos to him; but the overall system was put in before he arrived.
Oddly, MD's EMO didn't perform as well as Benson's did at Hop. Must've been the players, huh?

Re: Maryland 2023
IL reports that safety Dante Trader will join the Terps lax team this spring. He was a two way middie in hs. It appears that he can help the already loaded Terps on a variety of ways.
Re: Maryland 2023
As he said in the article, that’s the plan. Let’s see if he gets out of the bowl game healthy and is willing to jump right into lax practices. Then it’s just a matter of knocking off rust and figuring out a position. Go Terps
