Chauvette on the other hand is certainly an under the radar interesting prospect. While it means next to nothing he is a higher ranked prospect coming in than either Angelus or Keogh. He has been rarely mentioned on this thread but he played at one of the year in year out top programs in the country and I guess he has Canadian roots so something about his game may fit Junior's eye.

Chauvette is from Ohio—though as a lefty attackman at Culver he probably has some "Canadian" traits given the types of players they've produced over the years.

Speaking of Canadians, I did not see Quint mention either of the two actual Canadian freshmen—Raposo and Peshko. I suppose there are only so many spots on the field. Still, I would expect one or both of them to make an impact at some point.

I do not think he is yanking our chains about anything. You can say what you want about the guy but he generally knows his stuff. If he's talking about someone, there's probably a reason. I don't think he cares a whole lot about the recruit rankings.

That makes the inclusion of Delaney all the more interesting...as I said earlier I think he's going to see the field.

I saw his bio said Shaker Hgts for his hometown but here is the concluding line verbatim from his IL evaluation:

"Figures to join the legacy of Canadian offensive players for the Blue Jays."

So I thought he was from Canada but moved to Ohio???? If IL is completely wrong - wouldn't be the first time for sure.

I suspect that's wrong. Cam's dad was a decorated hockey player at Brown, and his bio there says he (the dad) grew up in Rhode Island:

https://brownbears.com/honors/hall-of-f ... uvette/453

Easy to assume a Culver player has Canadian roots given that so many of them do, but not sure Chauvette does. In any case, he very well may still play the game like a Canadian.

This is neither here nor there but an interesting tidbit I found from IL when looking up Szuluk, from back when he was a Lafayette commit:
So impressed by his toughness on-ball when he was guarding Casey McDermott (Johns Hopkins), whose overriding attribute is toughness, as well. Szuluk is tall and can maintain power with his arms extended, so he's really difficult to run through and around.

A lockdown on-ball guy who sought out the toughest matchup on opposing teams while playing alongside Under Armour All-American Cameron Henry, he's got the look of a player who can help coach Pat Myers move the program forward.

maybe not such a spicoli-like shocker with kirson at i believe a 40-something% vs. b1g shooters. he does have the advantage of knowing where the buckeyes like to shoot. formidable for guys like leclaire where no one actually sees it.

of course, with the shortened practice reps, darby has that same advantage so far on homewood.

If Kirson doesn't start Saturday it better be because he tested positive for Covid or he's in concussion protocol.
I would still prefer Marcille in either of those cases by a factor of a million.

well, it's a good thing then for these players they get to try out for their coaches each day and each year.

Fair enough - but given your fact is tied to the last time we saw OSU play in the BIG and they were 1-4 even losing to the team up north and 2020 was OK - Detroit Mercy, Bucknell, Hofstra and BU (sans Chris Gray) were 4 of the 5 wins - why is everyone so enamored with them? I am not saying that Hopkins is going to win the game or anything like that - it might get ugly who knows - but I am not sure I see "IT".

Kirson was up and down his first 1.5 seasons, not uncommon for young goalies.

To my eyes, his 2020 film shows a goalie who turned the corner. It was admittedly not a schedule as ripe with elite shooters as the Big Ten might be, but he totally dominated the competition he did face. Five straight games with double digit saves. UMass is a good team—13 saves to 9 goals allowed. He was better than 50% in 5 of their 6 games and the one game he wasn't was against Milliman's lethal Cornell attack, and he still had 15 saves that game, helping to keep the Buckeyes in it. That one could have been ugly without decent goalkeeping.

He's also gone 50% or better twice against Notre Dame, which probably would have come in handy in 2019 for us.

because those games were mostly in hand? and while a loss, they were every bit the team short one goal to cornell when you're projecting a season out.
umass loss -- they were pretty good? i don't recall.
ignacio's back. up the middle don't know (nor do they) what they'll have in goal.
but they have experienced pieces back and at least last year a touted frosh class that haven't been there for a full year of games to know what they are.

there'll be a lot of ?s preseason in this year more than any other. and during for that matter with protocols.

they'd seem to have a bunch of the ingredients, though.

Watching HPU/UNC and noting the effectiveness of the aggressive ride (not sure it's a full 10-man). What has PM's/JK's history with the ride been? Does anyone think we're going to be more aggressive this year? From watching UVa and UNC thus far, certainly feels like a very effective tactic - at least at this point in the season.

I hoped to start my 74th season at Homewood sitting where I sat with my Dad( also a Hopkins grad ) for so many years.
But no fans allowed in the stands !
:|
Apparently the game against OSU will be rebroadcast on ESPNU at 10AM Sunday.
Are there any venues that will be available to watch / listen to live ?

Man I'm just hoping we clear it at a rate better than like 75%. What a nightmare that was last year. Couldn't cross the midline.

I do think we have the riders to have an aggressive ride but I'm not sure what the staff's plans are. I don't recall Cornell having an especially tenacious ride.

And with the new rules, crossing the midline seems to count as a successful clear even if you turn it over before you get set up on O, so the clearing stats appear to be misleading.

I don't recall Cornell's ride nor UMBC's, just curious if anyone else had a view.

-it's live on espn3 which I watch on my computer, it does not cost extra. I will print a roster because I do not know most of these numbers.
-watching the ivy fracas makes me more curious about the internal deliberations at homewood this winter and going ahead w/this season and what made them do it.
-I'm not a math nerd, but I'm sure lacrossereference.com or someone has a tournament probability analysis of our chances if we win-I'm guessing upper 50s or lose-mid to low 30s based upon expected success of terps/lions and rutgers/michigan.

Again, I think most are wrongly considering this to be a normal season in this regard.

To me, the Big Ten isn't getting more than two - no matter how good our teams are - if selection is normal this season. Even with a win, I wouldn't put us anywhere near 50-60% of making the NCAA tournament.

Focus on winning games/the Big Ten title. If we do well in those goals, the rest will take care of itself.

--

My two cents.

ACC is getting four minimum. Maybe (Probably?) all five.

After what I feel like are 4 ACC locks, that leaves, essentially, four bids to be split, likely among:
ACC #5
Big Ten runner-up/2nd best team
Big East runner-up/2nd best team
Patriot League runner-up/2nd best team
Colonial runner-up/2nd best team

Any team outside of these 5 conferences would need something exceptional for an at-large bid in my opinion.

Every team makes the Big Ten conference tournament. The best path to the NCAAs is to stay healthy and then just get hot at the right time and win that tournament. Every game until then should just be about getting better and working toward that goal. If you end up winning some games along the way and put yourself in at-large contention then great. But especially this year given the new staff and the abbreviated offseason, the emphasis should be on A) testing negative so they can actually play games and B) improving/developing over the course of the year.

Completely agree. Having fun is important.

In other news ... Wombat poops cubes. It’s true. What the f**k.

The squarer the poop, the healthier the wombat.
