Re pink,

Last night I watched the Alberto Palmetta vs Jesus Saracho pro boxing match in which Palmetta wore shorts that were partly pink - his gloves also featured that color. In the youtube chat pointed out that pink is the latest fashionable color for gloves in the sport. Use of the color has been well received.

Hey, why not?

Suni Lee, 21, is competing in the Paris Summer Olympics after an incurable kidney disease forced her to stop competing and focus on her health The gymnast says she thought about quitting "because I was so sick" — but people like teammate Simone Biles "lifted me up" She's now on the right combination of medication and in remission

Mens 1500M Final
Cole Hocker. It doesn’t get any better than this. Amazing fight to find a way through and finish. Photo finish for the Silver/Bronze. I would have lost it had I not known of the results completed earlier.

Navy Midshipmen football player Chreign LaFond was overwhelmed with joy upon discovering that his sister, Thea LaFond, clinched a gold medal in the women's triple jump at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. This victory is particularly noteworthy as it marks the first Olympic medal ever won by an athlete from Dominica.

USA wins SILVER in synchro!

Team USA won the silver medal in artistic swimming on Wednesday — the first medal in 20 years. Miami's Daniella Ramirez and the U.S. artistic swimming team won silver at the Paris Olympics on Wednesday, the Americans' first medal in the team event since bronze in Athens in 2004.

I watched that performance. As a former swimmer I know how difficult those out-of-water lifts are. Those women are real athletes. Congrats to the USA team.....

Nice comment.

Over my many years, I've played, coached, and attended a great MANY athletic contests. The single toughest pre match work out I ever saw was in Minneapolis at the Univ of Minnesota Aquatic Center way back in 1996 ~ a nation wide synchro 19-and-under tournament. Those who think this is not a valid sport need to open their eyes and minds -- it is a very demanding sport involving much skill, athleticism, and preparation. GREAT sport, indeed.

Olympic Soccer Bracket 2024: USA Beats Brazil to Win Women's Gold Medal

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/101 ... gold-medal

Image

The United States Women's National Soccer Team won their first Olympic title in 12 years Saturday, defeating Brazil 1-0 in the gold medal match at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

Forward Mallory Swanson made the difference for Team USA, taking a long pass from Korbin Albert and beating Brazilian goalkeeper Lorena in the 57th minute for the first and only goal of the match ... There was some question regarding whether Swanson was offside when the pass was made, but it was upheld, and it proved to be all the USWNT needed to prevail.

Brazil was unquestionably the better team throughout the first half and ultimately won the possession battle 57 percent to 43 percent, but the Americans weathered the storm and goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher made a couple of huge stops.

Brazil has much more time of possession and dominated the action. But USA wins GOLD!

^ Curry went nuts.

Heck, I went nuts. My neighbor down the hallway went nuts. Both of us screaming like banshees.

What a game!

I esp liked the way LeBron James orchestrated the game plan. He started out house afire but gradually stepped back and allowed Steph Curry and Kevin Durant to take over the offense. While the post defense* was weaker than it should have been, our Yanks did not panic when there were lapses and missed 3 pointers. Great bench work as Devin Booker contributed 15p. The fastbreak point margin and 3p margin combined is what ultimately won it for the GOLD.

Four Olympic GOLD medals for KD.

So AWESOME!

*the NBA is no longer dominated by strong, over powering centers but I'd like to see the league and the NCAA go back to a game where they were dominant. the sport is still played that way in European leagues as it should be here - makes for a better game in my view

Here is the highlights including the the last three minutes where he hits 4 of his 8 threes to ice the game - he went to another planetary level - the definition of CLUTCH. oh BTW he hit 9 of 14 treys against Serbia sealing that win also.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xf-zV1uTkW0

Including the last trey fade away shot over a double team off his left foot - unconscious - Nighty Night!!!!!

There is talk than Jordan Chiles must return her Bronze medal due to an error in timing from her coaches. If she has to return it then the Olympic Committee should return the Gold medal it stole from our 1972 basketball team. Let's see what happens next ...

This from ESPN today on Los Angeles 2028

"Since the Tokyo Games, the International Olympic Committee has invited host cities to propose new slates of sports to include in their programs, which is how breaking broke onto the Olympic stage in Paris and how skateboarding and surfing, also approved for 2028, entered the five-ring fray in Tokyo. Five sports will make their Olympic returns or debuts in Los Angeles, including lacrosse, which was last contested in the 1908 Olympics, and cricket, which awarded its last Olympic medal at the turn of the 20th century.

Flag football, which was added with a push from the NFL, and squash, which has come close to inclusion several times in the past 20 years, will award their first Olympic medals in L.A.

Baseball and softball, neither of which were played in Paris, make their return. Major League Baseball has said it is open to discussing potentially pausing the MLB schedule around the All-Star break to allow players to participate in the Games, a boon for the inclusion of the sport in future Games".

Correction - a stretch to call the version of lacrosse to be played as "lacrosse" because it isn't lacrosse but some version of pinball. In 1908 they played REAL field lacrosse. Canada won the gold - no natives on that team - all white guys. Remains to be seen if the IOC will permit the Haudenosaunee to compete as a sovereign nation (which it is BTW). IOC decision should be coming shortly even though to US Government supports their inclusion. If they make it, they would have a shot at a gold medal in the format to be used.

https://www.nbcsports.com/olympics/news ... e-olympics

Softball will be played 1500 miles away in Oklahoma City as will Canoe slalom - There is not a regulation softball facility in LA Metro that seats more than 2,000 apparently. OK stadium seats 11,000

Flag football? really? Money does talk after all.

Breaking (which was a medal sport in Paris) won't be back in LA Likely because it isn't really a sport anyway.

I was just watching NBC News this morning. The Jordan Chiles medal review could take years. It should have taken no more than a few minutes.
