NRA quiet after police shoot ‘good guy with a gun’ in Alabama

DipShirts

"The NRA likes to trumpet executive vice president Wayne LaPierre’s quote “The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun” so much it put the phrase on a t-shirt and sells it in the organization’s official store.

But when a Black man with Army training, who was legally allowed to carry a gun, was mistakenly shot by police after he drew his firearm following an altercation in an Alabama mall that saw another person shoot two young people, the gun rights world was largely silent."

This shooting didn't get a lot of press in August either:

https://www.wftv.com/news/local/police- ... /806192101
An armed bystander shot a man who opened fire on a back-to-school event at a Titusville park after a fistfight, police said.

The bystander who shot the man waited for officers and was cooperative with the investigation, police said

“We are extremely grateful that nobody else was injured in this incident,” said Deputy Chief Todd Hutchinson. “This suspect opened fire at a crowded public park, this could have been so much worse."

IS this sensible?

https://pix11.com/2018/11/21/social-med ... arm-in-ny/

“There should be more restrictions on how guns are purchased. We should have more background checks,” Paul McQuillen, director of the Buffalo chapter of New Yorkers Against Gun Violence, said
He said that the NYAGC isn’t ready to back the bill yet, but he does think it could be beneficial.

“We’ve obviously seen some of the mass shooters have a social media history that should have sent red flags,”
he said.

Ummm.......if you can already read crazy peoples social media rants.....why would you need their passwords?

Fatty's Law: (to USE a gun for any lawful purpose, not just ownership)

1. You MUST belong to a social/gun/hunting club and participate in recorded meetings. (covers MILITIA part of 2nd)

2. You MUST go annual 3 year "fitness" test, in person, and show gun use competency in front of a 9 person panel. $15 for the test.

My fair state of Massachusettes has 343,000 licensed "class A" gun holders. That would pull in just under $2 million per year. Obviously more if you charge more.

Suicide rates among U.S. children and teens have hit startling rates and a study now finds one clear predictor of youth suicide: gun ownership.

Am surprised there's no mention of Smart Phones/social media in that article.
I'd bet if you removed that from the homes with guns, suicide rates would drop.

Amen DMAC, amen. Shows like Catfish on MTV also perpetuate the horrible social media behavior.

How dare you even suggest a company like Apple or Google has created a monster of social/mental chaos in children ages 10-19.
A fraudulent intent, however carefully concealed at the outset, will generally, in the end, betray itself.

Absolutely. I pushed against it from the very beginning and it partly explains my very very limited exposure to "anti" social media platforms....I don't travel in it and advise my kids to do the same.....it's an impossible task.

If you want to practice some good gun control, try picking off red squirrels from about fifty yards. Holy schit those are some very quick, and ever moving pesky little pricks. Those little rodents will test your patience to the limit, only give you a second to get 'em, and give you no room for error (they aint very big). The 30-30 fillets up real nice for the barn cats, makes their hunting a whole easier too. They like me...been eating pretty darn good the past couple of days.
Well, sun's about to come up and I gotta get some more cat food, guess I better get ready to do some more hunting. Coffee's on, chair's right next to the kitchen window so I'm all set. Been house sitting out at the red neck's Ponderosa, hunt from inside not too far from the wood stove. That's my idea of hunting. Gotta go now.

3D Gun Crime

The House today passed two gun control measures out of the Judiciary Committee supporting improved background checks. Both measures had multiple republicans voting with the democrats. Pretty clear these will end up in a Bill (or two) sent to Senate.

THOSE states have restrictive laws. Hooterville doesn’t. Only 8 states have regulations on retailers to secure stock. Go to Hooterville and steal some guns and bring them to THOSE states where they can be sold for enormous profit.

“Stealing from people almost guaranteed to be armed would seem like a dumb idea to most, but not everybody got the memo. Firearm theft from licensed retailers including gun stores is becoming increasingly common, according to data released by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives this week.

The number of robberies of federal firearms licensees reported to the ATF have increased 227% since 2013 and burglaries of such gun purveyors are up 71% over that same period.”

I'd bet in a significant number of cases. the firearms dealer finds a mysterious envelope full of cash under his door mat.

House Democrats make first major move to tighten gun laws

"House Democrats took their first steps as a new majority on Wednesday to tighten federal gun laws, underscoring their commitment to act on a top priority a day before the first anniversary of the deadly mass shooting at a Parkland, Fla., high school.

The Judiciary Committee approved two bills that would expand federal background checks for firearm purchases. The legislation, which now heads to the House floor but stands virtually no chance in the Senate, makes good on Democrats’ promises to move swiftly to combat gun violence since taking control of the chamber this year.

“There is a clear consensus among academics, public health experts and law enforcement personnel that universal background checks would greatly enhance public safety,” said Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.). “Despite the obvious need to take action, however, Congress, for too long has done virtually nothing.”

The measure would require virtually all purchasers of firearms to undergo a background check — including those buying through gun shows, over the Internet or through other private transactions."

It's all fun and games until someone gets an eye poked out … or a COP gets himself shot by another COP. Less than a week ago a black 20 year old was shot to death by a police firing squad, 6 COPS, 20 bullets in 5 seconds. The 20 year old had fallen asleep in his car with a hand gun in plain sight. When he wakes up, disoriented, COPS shout commands at him, then kill him.

Absolutely nothing wrong with either of these situations. The human race is too stupid to live.

Some good sensible gun control
Texas homeowner shoots, kills 3 men and injures 2 during home invasion, officials say

Three men were killed and two others were injured after dozens of shots were fired by a homeowner in Texas during a home invasion early Sunday, officials said.

The incident happened around 1 a.m. in east Houston after five men wearing ski masks broke into the home, police told KPRC.

The male resident inside then grabbed his weapon and opened fire at the men.

Always a smart move to sleep with a stolen gun in your lap in a taco bell parking lot and reach for the gun... How could this have been avoided? Hmmmm

None of which was known at the time of the execution. The COP that died by police gun fire, by execution squad, was chasing a toy gun.
