Long long first possession with multiple shots and chances for NU to come away with nothing. Maryland looks much sharper early. In their element, playing their game, feeling their oats. They lead 2-0
There's Gilbert for the low laser. 2-1
Is there any team who wouldn't love to have Leubecker?
Now they're coming alive! NU ties it after a beauty of a CTO by Coykendall turned into a goal and a nice rip by Smith to tie it.
NU's going to have to get more creative to beat Sterling today. They have to make her move.
And Doucette has a moment thinking she's a quarterback and the clock's winding down and she's got to heave the Hail Mary--and it's an easy turnover and Maryland scores. Shocker. I wonder what Larry's thoughts are on plays like that...

To be fair, because I have criticized this playing surface and room to maneuver: this must be a really fantastic venue to watch a game. Fans are right up on the field. Really nice.

Yes! It's like that at BC's lacrosse field. Right on top of the action. You can hear the players grunt with effort and clearly hear them yell instructions to each other.Seacoaster(1) wrote: ↑Sat Apr 23, 2022 12:06 pm To be fair, because I have criticized this playing surface and room to maneuver: this must be a really fantastic venue to watch a game. Re: Northwestern v. Maryland 4/23/2022 at 11:30 AM
Huh?! What was Dwyer doing playing D there? Hensh went around her like she was a lamp post. 5-3 Terps
And NU continues to shoot high at Sterling. Easy save--saw it all the way. Maryland scores on the other end. Terps look good!
NU looking clueless on that possession and score by Maryland. 7-3 Terps
Halpern paying the price to crash the net. 7-4
Terps making Cats work awfully hard on each possession to get a look, let alone a shot!
Hannah Leubecker--what's not to like about her? Nice aggressive falling down shot and goal. 8-4 Terps. Timeout.
UGH! Doucette again turns the ball over on a sloppy pass, and Libby May makes them pay. 9-4 Terps
NU playing stupid at this point--needlessly turning the ball over, taking casual shots on goal, no surprise they're down by 5.

For someone who has never played this game, you sure have a lot to say about players/teams playing stupid.OuttaNowhereWregget wrote: ↑Sat Apr 23, 2022 12:11 pm NU playing stupid at this point--needlessly turning the ball over, taking casual shots on goal, no surprise they're down by 5.

One thing becomes more and more evident about this edition of Terrapins--they play smart, sound fundamental lacrosse and they keep their mistakes and mental errors to a minimum. If they hold on and win this game, and they should by all means do so, I think they're a legitimate threat to make it to championship weekend. Sometimes beating the other team is mostly playing sound error free lacrosse and waiting for the opponent to make the mistakes. Terps 11-5 7:45 3Q
Libby May wide open in the slot (little hockey terminology there) 12-5 3Q 7:38

Maryland defense just squeezing the life out of NU. And Bosco--wow what a stud on D! She's got Gilbert all bottled up.
Libby May! With her 6th--scoring at will. 13-5 Terps.
....and the Tiers, they are a-changiiiiiiin

Yup, that floundering Maryland team just spanking NU.
How can that be from a program that is swirling down
the toilet?

I wouldn't call myself a huge Maryland fan, but this is one of the main reasons I find it hard to hate them. I have always respected their discipline & their brand of lacrosse.OuttaNowhereWregget wrote: ↑Sat Apr 23, 2022 1:05 pm they play smart, sound fundamental lacrosse and they keep their mistakes and mental errors to a minimum.

Clevenger! 14-5 It's a massacre! Call the medics!! Maryland playing absolutely inspired ball today! They got me fired up and I'm not even a fan.
Girardi shows a little pride and gets one back. 14 - 6 at the end of the 3Q. Wow--what a beatdown. I'd say they're getting their pound of flesh retribution from last year.

I do know, because where you're quick to criticize and tell us how teams and players choke and underperform and how programs are going down the tubes, I see teams loaded with good players who have potential and can put it all together on any given day. Maryland has looked pretty darn good to me for awhile now.OuttaNowhereWregget wrote: ↑Sat Apr 23, 2022 1:17 pmI don't know, D. I thought maybe you might know.

Well, that's not entirely the whole story--is it. But nice try mischaracterizing my comments, though.DMac wrote: ↑Sat Apr 23, 2022 1:21 pmI do know, because where you're quick to criticize and tell us how teams and players choke and underperform and how programs are going down the tubes, I see teams loaded with good players who have potential and can put it all together on any given day. Girardi again. 14-7. Signs of life for the Cats? Timeout 10:36 left in 4Q

Players hitting the deck all over the place out there today. That Weird Field turf can't possibly feel good. OUCH! Tough players!
And who else! Libby May with her 7th! Terps 15-7 8 minutes left
Girardi again. 15-8. Cats seem resigned to their fate. Maybe payback coming in the Big 10 tourney?
Terp offense looking stellar but the D is stand-up-and-cheer good too.

Wasn't a nice try and it wasn't mischaracterizing, was dead nuts on the money all the way around.OuttaNowhereWregget wrote: ↑Sat Apr 23, 2022 1:24 pmWell, that's not entirely the whole story--is it.
