Winning breeds winning. Virginia got it rolling.

Is Kumar going to see any field next year? Brennfleck have any chance at dmid?

Not sure about those specific players but there were a few graduation losses along the various midfield units so there is opportunity for them both and no incoming experienced transfers at this point anyway. Competition for openings in the rotation will come only from upperclassmen and inexperienced but talented 1st years.

The second middie line is wide open. I would think the two that were mentioned along with the first years (Schutz, Mencke, & Mullen), as well as some seasoned vets (Simmons, Bienkowski, etc) will be in the mix. Walshe and McIntosh also will be competing, with the latter perhaps seeing time as 4th attackman. If I’m a young player looking to carve out a contributing role at UVa, o-mid/d-dmid is the spot. Looking forward to seeing what a healthy Danny Parker can do at d-mid.

Quinn back in the fall per Lars newsletter. Seems to be a good candidate for a top 6 midfield spot. We have Garno, Xander, Jeff Conner back and a few guys like Bienkowski, Schultz, as well in the mix.

Skimmed the Sabre boards the other day and they seem pretty much unanimously convinced that Schutz is a top 6 guy immediately. Not doubting that, just saying it might change the equation on playing time at least a little bit for returners like Quinn or younger guys like Kumar and McIntosh. One of those "good problems to have" I suppose. I'm sure that's at least part of the reason Maher took his talents to Homewood. Talent there too but I think a bit more ambiguity about specific roles in 2022 and beyond.

PS: some rumors floating around of a renewed Doyle Smith Cup sooner rather than later

Some big news this weekend. Virginia welcomes M Evan Zinn from JHU. Potential two way middie with ACC size (6'3, 200) with two years of eligibility left.

M/FO Gavin Tygh has left to UMD. Wish him the best of luck. However with that in mind, only Petey and Braun left at the faceoff position. Do we need to find depth??? Surely another guy or two, even if they won't play, can be valuable to the team.

You think a kid like Quinn a very good player would go to a school that he could start and play a lot.

Perhaps, he prefers playing on a team that can win a National championship every year. Perhaps, he likes the great college academic and social experience there. They always say to pick a school you would love to attend without lacrosse and he certainly did. That all being said, he is more than likely to be in the regular rotation this year so will play a lot.

I rather think he was finally accepted into Darden (most likely given his major) so no longer needs the transfer. It used to be policy UVA undergrads were not accepted into post grad schools at UVA.

I have no inside info on Quinn of any kind, but doubt it is Darden. He wouldn't see the light of day to play lax in that MBA program........ Perhaps, it's something in the Commerce school like Bertrand did.

Best wishes to Evan Zinn at Virginia. Very sorry to see him go. Cavaliers pick up a terrific athlete.

The big problem I saw with clearing was that the opponents were having a long pole in the center of the field at the midfield line. The opponents would try to shut off the short sticks and force the pass to a long pole. The opponents' long pole then attacked our long pole with the ball. The attack needs to come closer to the midfield line to provide an outlet for the long pole, who also needs to be looking upfield for the outlet pass. It would be interesting to have a count of broken clears/lost offensive opportunities because the long pole lost the ball without passing it to a shortie.

That’s a pretty standard clearing concept at the d1 level. Shouldn’t be an issue, those poles can handle ball pressure.

You’re 100% right, it shouldn’t be. But for some reason I can’t explain it is an issue for us.

If the stats bear that out in post-season analysis, would think it's be sure to be a point of extra coaching emphasis come fall.

Might also want to isolate for the specific players who had the most difficulty statistically.

It is a shaky adventure whenever one of their closed defenseman handle the ball. The one clear weakness that should be attacked by riding teams from opening minute

So many UVA players are heralded and known but the one who gets overlooked is ssdm Grayson Sallade . Had quite a season

Lars has announced that Sallade will be a tri-captain for the 2022 season.
