covid 19 is and particularly so for the elderly as well as those with

Not these current ones asking for a emergency use. They have a small piece of mRNA that is the blue print for a protein on the surface of the virus. To make a long story short, this protein piece is recognized as foreign by your immune system that prepares the body to fight if the real virus infects you. So if that’s what you mean by bit of virus, then yes. If you mean like the flu vaccine then no.

Yes, this is what this layperson who has only a basic understanding of how it all works meant, but I did think it worked essentially like a flu shot which leaves me with the flu every time I get one (which is why I quit getting them long ago). Along with the hopes that millions upon millions line up to get the vax there needs to be a lot of info put out there as to how it all works as I doubt I'm the only one with reservations (perhaps born of ignorance but I suspect there are huge numbers with the same reservations). Asking me? That question is way over my pay grade. I would spend the tie researching the technology, mRNA vaccine, and speak with your doctor. I'm on the basic science side of it all and no where near the clinical side of things.

Personally, I'll read the FDA report and decide for certain but right now I will get the vaccine. My better half will be in line early because of her profession.

This aint gonna be an easy sell, I think there's going to be a lot of hesitancy in big numbers of
people who might be seeing themselves as the guinea pigs for testing the new vaccine.

Personally, I will closely follow the reported experience of those who are vaccinated early on. Unless something dramatic comes up, I will get vaccinated as soon as I am eligible. Selfishly, if a lot of people don’t get vaccinated, that may allow me to get it earlier.

I don’t mind some mild side effects. When I got the two shot shingles vaccine a couple of years ago, I had flu like symptoms for about 24 hours after the second shot. (No side effects to speak of after the first one). Felt pretty punk. But after a day, I felt fine. If that’s what I have to go through again for the Covid vaccination, I’m fine with that.

While I am pro-choice on this (everyone has a right to make his or her own decision), I hope as many people as possible do decide to get vaccinated.

It seems quite ironic to me that the same people who are complaining about lock downs and other restrictive measures seem to be the same ones who don’t want to get vaccinated. Not directing this at you, Dmac. Just a general observation.

Me too with the 2nd shingles shot. Be mentally prepared for it. Ibuprofen helped me.

Can the covid vacc be made a condition of employment ? I'm thinking of nursing home/ senior living staff.

I'm pretty sure the military can require it, just like they did for malaria & others, before deployment.

I'd expect the front line deploying active duty military to he high priority, especially ship & sub crews.

Without question the ones who are making the most noise see it as a big conspiracy, a complete falsehood, a grand scheme to control the population/citizens. The ploy (in their view) isn't going to drive them to get the vaccine. Even if you do have a proven vaccine you still can't fix stupid. I am in the camp of hoping the vaccine works and heads us in the right direction, and I do think a ton of people will get them.

i wasn't able to reopen the article after getting halfway thru it. suffice it's probably a lot of what i've seen already.

it's all good. absent a cohort that can't/shouldn't take it for medical reasons, people can opt out all they want as far as i'm concerned. moves other people to the front of the line that much faster. once we get thru everybody, we should be in some semblance of normal. you missed your chance and you're taking your chances, good luck and godspeed!
