I think Bernie's ideas go way too far for my taste, and likely for a whole lot of folks like me, so I'm hoping one of the more moderate, level-headed Dems manages to be the nominee instead. I see Bernie as very polarizing and I'm sick of this extreme polarization.

I do think Bernie is at least fundamentally honest and well-meaning. That's a plus.

That said, I doubt very much that Bernie's most aggressive ideas will be passed in his lifetime, so if we have to put up with a hard swing leftward for a term in order to get rid of Trump, I'll hold my nose and vote for Bernie. Once.

I'm exactly such a life long R, voted every cycle for 4 decades, never pulling the lever for the Dem for President...yet will in 2020. Even if Bernie.

My wife has only voted once for D for President, 2008, then voted for Romney in '12 and she'll be voting D this time, regardless of candidate.

In our cases, we didn't vote for Trump or Clinton last time, voted protest. But this time will go D, no matter who.
Probably switch back in 2024 if a decent R candidate.

We know lots of such voters.

Also know some Trump voters who really don't want to vote for him again, disgusted...they're rooting for one of the moderates on the Dem side, making it easier for them to make that call.

VAT is a retail tax that is levied on the end user. So manufacturers like me get a full pass, and a liquor store pays full freight...including my share. There is no word to describe how stupid this arrangement is.

This is ENTIRELY different than what I'm suggesting----any time a good or service changes hands, the consumption tax is levied. In my system, everyone pays in, no exceptions.

Further, when Fareed points out how much more progressive the US tax system is, he completely ignores that yep, the poor are taxed in Sweden. But as a group, they get all that money back, and then some, in the form of greater bennies than we get in the US. The poor have access to health care in Sweden. Full stop.

The US has a ratio of 27.1% of their GDP collected as taxes


But guess how much of our GDP we blow on Health Care? 16.9% So the real number is 44%, not 27.1%....it's just we cut checks to our insurers and copays instead of to the .gov.

Now add in all the deficit we're carrying! As of the end of 2019? We're at 107% of GDP. Wanna guess where Sweden is? 38%

In American, the balance....by any measure....has been moving so far over to favoring the 1%ers over the bottom 75%, it's not even a close call.

That's why leftie ideas sound so much better to young voters than what we have today...the field is so obviously slanted to the rich, it's ridiculous.

As you'd imagine, I prefer a moderate balance. I don't want Bernie. I want Kasich et. al, and slowly moving the scales toward the working class. What we are doing now makes no sense.

It makes no sense, for example, that Amazon is taxed less than my small business. It makes no sense that a 1st world nation---whether from the free market, or from socialism----can't provide reasonable health care at a reasonable price to its citizens.

And it makes no sense that monopolistic practices have been allowed in all sectors of American business, stifling competition and fair access to markets.

And it makes no sense that we allow taxes on big business are so low that we have to pay a half a billion+ per year on interest alone.

The system is broken.
