My stream is good. The announcers are dreadful. No prep. The color commentator seems to be enjoying her first lax game.

Navy up 7-4. Navy owned Q1, then they switched the offense set & subbed 6 for 10. Hofstra changed fogo & went on a 3 goal spurt to close it to 5-4.

Ryan in goal is the difference so far.
It's a close one! Hofstra went on a 5-goal run to tie it 9-9 early in the 4th quarter, but Swanson just scored off the Arline assist to give Navy back the one-goal lead; 11 minutes left in the game.

The color commentator must be a soccer player -- references to "the pitch" and some REALLY elementary analysis ("winning the face offs leads to more chances to score").

Whoever said this was a potential trap game for Hofstra nailed it! Did Hofstra have chances to tie at the end?

Yes. Multiple chances. It was a LI brawl. Both teams going all out, forcing turnovers, with D's pressuring O's into mistakes,

Hell of a game. Navy lucky to escape with a W. Hofstra showed moxie hanging in 'til the end. Hofstra is still Hofstra.

Navy won a squeaker, 13-12. It had seemed like they'd gotten control with a 13-10 lead with under four minutes to play, but Hofstra won the face-off, scored, got a 2 v 1 off a Navy turnover, won the face-off again and had the ball with one minute, and then turned it over and Navy was able to run out the clock (although there were a few tense moments).

Good goaltending by Navy, with 14 saves by the combination of Ryan/Daly (8 for Ryan, 6 for Daly), but they had a little trouble closing things out. Navy defense seemed a little passive for stretches of the game? Only 2 caused turnovers for the game. (Although the pressure did force some "unforced errors" :)). One bright spot: on a day when Hofstra keyed on Skalniak (2 assists), the Navy attack contributed 10 of the 13 goals (Tolker 5 goals; Arline 3 goals, 4 assists; and Haley 2 goals, 1 assist).

& DM 26 Peters had 2 goals in transition.

Rr Flo sports, for Navy fans. If not yet subscribed, I'd recommend get the monthly subscription (12.99) after Feb 24. Watch Navy-Hofstra replay (it's worth it), then watch Navy-Villanova live. Then promptly unsubscribe before 1 month or they'll bill you forever.

Ironically, Hofstra and Navy are the two programs whose venues are the very best sites for the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals.

old salt, absolutely right that the two goals from DM Peters were big. Nice to see that sort of potential for a transition game.

Probably the best and greatest two-sporter who played both lacrosse and football was Syracuse's Jimmy Brown. Unstoppable and unguardable in lacrosse and a blazing tank on the field. NFL Hall of Famer, won an NFL championship with Cleveland Browns.....
Jack Thomas passed for over 3,000 yards in 3 years and
Joe Cowan ran for over 1,000 yards in two years,
for Hopkins,
Coach Chic also played football and lacrosse.
Hobart has had many football/lacrosse players over the years.
That’s going to stop now we’re allowed to give athletic money due to the split divisions.

I played football with a few like Kevin DeWall, Scott Yoder, Tony Aguilar and Jamie Breslin but the best in my time was probably Tim Booth-https://www.leagueathletics.com/Page.as ... h.lacrosse

I rewatched that Hofstra game.
That was a good solid test for Navy.
That game is as well as Hofstra has played, at the very least through last year - and they have some large players.
Not a patsy win in the least for the Mids.

No, it was not a great day for the Mids. But I think it was more about Manhattan’s goalie’s awesome play. That was definitely one of the finest goalie performances from the keeper for a Navy opponent in sometime.

You got that right...what a fugg'in stinker that was. One assist, w/no 10, 24, 28, or 29 in the box score. Might be 29's first game without a point.

47 shots by Navy and 22 saves by Jaspers...solid day by keeper. Although I am wondering if pipes are saves?
GB's: Navy 35 to 22 and only 6 goals.....that might be a record for worse score with that many possessions.

Gonna be one helluva tough week...strap up fellas.

D3 football players from the last two decades would run over a lot of D1 stars from the 60s - 80s.

I know Ali well. He's from my hometown. A handful of outstanding player from DIII in the NFL doesn't mean near parity with DI. I think comparing Joe Cowan and Jim Brown because both played lacrosse and football well is inappropriate.

Talking intergenerational comparisons. I’ve spent a good bit of time with Ali, Brody and Bill myself. Ever see Bill in a mesh tank top? That’s my favorite look of his.

Several pipes. Manhattan played like Navy used to (under Richie). Stallball. Minimize possessions, extend possession time, pulled back D, few slides, keep the inside locked down, force long, outside shots which your hot goalie gobbles up.

Last season, #28 & #29 both scored a few sweet goals shooting with their off hands, but those shots don't have the velocity from long range to beat a goalie who's seeing the ball. Better to shoot with the off hand when cutting close-in, hitting open portion of net, rather than always going for an upper corner. They're not crank shots.

3 of Manhattan's 6 goals came when a Navy o-middie was forced to play D. 2 when a pole slid to help, opening another shooter & 1 when the o-middie whiffed on the shooter.

#6 entered thru the box in the MF2 rotation. When forced to play D, he did well. Inverting as a part time MF2 change of pace should continue to create openings for him.

I hope the 2 goalie experiment is over.

Manhattan played a smart game. Their key players came through in the 2nd half. They deserved to win.
