Your reading comprehension is worse than the kids in Season 4 of the Wire. My entire point in following up a prior post is that cops are just dudes, often ones who didn’t have white collar futures for one reason or another and additionally don’t have a true merit system earning them the job often. Combine that with the “we should all salute all police all the time” axiom along with “police are absolute authority on the streets” mentality in conjunction with poor training, historically spotty oversight and accountability and you are going to get these tragedies. There may be some degree of underlying racism but the bigger issue is these mediocre people, many of whole think of the job as a paycheck rather than a lifelong dream, get insufficient training, inflated egos, lethal force authority and some people are going to get killed. I’m saying the individuals should be held accountable but we don’t organize, fund or manage the police and legal system nearly tightly enough.

But some of you can’t understand nuance clearly.

"The credibility I crave"? (I don't reread anyone's posts because it doesn't interest me that much)

If I did go back and reread your prior 'police' posts from last night, is it fair to assume they have the same criticism of police as the one above: "mediocre" "racist" "egos"?

Two of my best friends in life are two different Florida county Sheriffs (ie: the head cheeses). I may not know much, but I know this: neither is mediocre nor racist. They're the guys you want in your corner. In fact, both might be the most impressive men I have ever met.

That said, your posts say way more about yourself than I could possibly ever say, so I'll let them stand on their own.

Can you be sure this cop will go down? No.

The preliminary autopsy was just released right now, and the results suggest that the deceased died of causes unrelated to the cop's knee.
Since you say you are in a "semi-apology" mood, tell us what you think about this prior post from you? You still think Floyd's death was "unrelated to the cop's knee"? Or do you still stand by that?

The coroner has come out with his results. They don't square with your preferred narrative.
More importantly, you are wrong here: the cop did not torture the guy 'to death'. He died of other causes, assuming the coroner is not corrupt and issued his findings in a neutral manner (which I will assume since coroners aren't generally partisan).
Peter -- family's medical examiners conclude that "the cause of death is asphyxia compression of the neck and back." That's actually consistent with what the public coroner said -- not strangulation, not tramautic asphyxia (blow to the chest). But the police restraint.

The most correct term is "mechanical" asphyxia or hypoxia. Squeezing the neck to deprive the brain of oxygenated blood. Which is completely duh obvious to anyone who watches the video. Except, apparently, you.

So you still sticking with your story that the cop's knee had nothing to do with it? Still think that, as you posted previously, is just a Democratic narrative and not the cause of death?

Not what I said: I said I would wait for more information and that stories like this are almost always (but not, ALWAYS) more complex than first imagined. I am not sure if you think I am in favor of a cop jamming his knee into any suspect's neck, but in case you do, let me disabuse you of that notion.

What I do say is that this murder is no different in my eyes from the many thousands of others murders of people in America. I don't see homicide by police as an accelerating problem, in fact quite the opposite as police retrain their officers on de-escalations etc.

Now as to a more real issue, did you know that this weekend in Chicago, 82 people were shot and 19 died. Why is that not a concern of anyone here? Where is that thread? Any comments on that? Or we are good with those casualties, because you know, the narrative doesn't square?

https://chicago.suntimes.com/2020/6/1/2 ... -29-june-1

I find the focus by Democrats on narrative stories to be endlessly nauseating. It's always the same: America sucks.

It sucks in no small measure because Democrats promote bs woke, fear, and inflammatory narratives, which the media carries unblinkingly. And burning cities are a direct result of that.

In addition to what appears often to be unpleasant online personalities, Democrats often have reading issues as well.

My words such as “suggest”, “preliminary”, and “assuming” are words of caution not definitives. A definitive would be Democrats can’t engage in dialogue.

That said, the autopsy you’re referencing is the family’s independent coroner not the coroner. And again, I’m not promoting a cop kneeing the guy in the neck.

“police are absolute authority on the streets”

I think at this point in time there are other folks who are not police that are the absolute authority. When you can burn down a police station and the cops are sitting by twiddling their thumbs as the bad guys dance around in glee. That does not resemble absolute authority to me. As far as police work being just a paycheck, that same thing is true for 100 million middle class Americans that shlub off to work every day. We don't do it because we love it. We do it to get a paycheck. I have one advantage on my job. On most days I don't have people out there that want to kill me.

Forgive me for my lack of medical training but it doesn't take a forensic pathologist to recognize a murder when they see one. This was a murder, plain and simple. The act that caused the death could not be called anything but malicious. I am pro-life, so the death penalty would be too harsh. Putting him in with the general prison population would likely result in his death. As an example to police everywhere, he should get life without parole, and the other officers should do long sentences for their complicity in George Floyd's death.

As a conservative, I don't believe our country works best when anyone is marginalized (Well, maybe Joe Biden). No white person on this board, and that's most of us, has any idea what it's like to walk in a black man's shoes. Many black people have been told from the time they were little that they were evil by white people and victims by black people. How is that a recipe for success? We need to stop judging people by their immutable characteristics. If you don't like someone because of their skin color, what can they do about it? Where does the conversation go from there? The problems aren't all on white people or black people. We can only come out of this better when re realize we are one human race and our differences are minor compared to our similarities.
