It is why I often use the term brainwashed. These poor rural folks are thinking and voting like PB.a fan wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2020 6:32 pm Thanks TLD.
The sad, pitiful part of it all, is that so many people (not all) in rural America are letting multimillionaires like Hannity and Rush convince them that socialism is bad. They're doing this to themselves. They cannot survive without socialism and Federal handouts. Full stop.
Every time I want to say "screw 'em, they're doing this to themselves", I just get depressed, and just wish they could think their political choices through and make good choices for their way of life. America is far, far better off with a healthy rural population.
AFan,And then in the next one you tell us that collective is not just good, it's just.
You're all over the place, and can't keep your beliefs straight.
Tell you what. Why don't you get this philosophy of yours straight and get back to us.
BTW, what I am asking is: using free market capitalism ONLY, figure out a way to get that 10 year old rural Colorado fed, educated, and employed by the time he reaches 18.
What I am illustrating to you is that it is IMPOSSIBLE to have a 1st world nation without socialism and Federal subsidies. It's why every single 1st world nation....without exception....has social programs, handouts, subsidies, and some form of socialism.
What you and your buddies at FoxNation have been telling everyone is the opposite. That free market is the only answer, and socialism is the devil.
Which is not only demonstrably a lie, it's DANGEROUS to tell Americans this, because it is making guys like you ungovernable.
If I'm your representative in Congress, and you tell me socialism is the devil? I'm going to vote to dismantle anything that is an example of socialism. So that means defunding public schools, defunding public parks, defunding public Universities, and defunding public hospitals.
And guess what? That's precisely what's happening not just Federally, but in many States as well.
So pull it together, figure out what your stance is, and get back to us....
Why Baltimore? Why not cite rural cities that have far more dependency on socialism and welfare?kramerica.inc wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2020 7:22 pm Show me how good federal socialism is doing keeping those urban youth fed, educated and employed in Baltimore etc.

a fan makes a common mistake. He confuses a small act of (what he calls) socialism with a full-on socialist system.
Baltimore is a great city with three awful areas: East West and South. Eventually the murders and desiccation of East and West Baltimore will chase voters out and neutralize the voting public whereby a half decent mayor and representative group will get elected. Until then, the horrific nature of life in those three areas will continue. And woke Dems will turn a blind eye to a city whose per Capita murder rates are on par with some of the worst third world cities.
My guess is 90% or murders in Baltimore are drug related. And you confuse socialism with communism.Peter Brown wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2020 8:57 amkramerica.inc wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2020 7:22 pm AFan said:

Some violence in anger typically with those same younger people carrying guns.
Innocent bystanders get killed, but mostly it's those actively in the trade.
Selling mostly to white suburbanites.
Folks with options can move elsewhere, the drug trade remains.
And a whole lot of police have been in on the take.
IMO, this isn't going to stop, in Baltimore or anywhere else, until the profit is taken out of the drug trade.

I'd like to know what PB has done to help the residents of Baltimore (or any other city or town with non-white majority). How many families' homes has he visited, classrooms, clinics in those areas he describes?
Ghettoization of poverty is indeed an enormous problem and where he and Kramerica and I might agree is that what our society has done, so far, to address this problem has not worked, or at least not for enough people.
I don't believe the problem is permanently intractable, nor do I believe the issue holding solutions back is "socialism". Crony capitalism and corruption, yes.
Likewise, I don't think the issues of poverty in less densely populated regions of America, the destroying of small town America in many areas, is due to "socialism" (albeit their regions receive much higher proportion of federal government funding than they produce in taxes). Again, crony capitalism and corruption, yes.

The issue that’s critical is not how much money I or anyone has given to inner city youth, but WHY does the murder rate in Baltimore exceed that of third world countries. And no, it’s not ‘corruption’ or ‘totalitarianism’. WHY is corruption embedded in obscenely large Democrat run cities? Why? Why are the police incapable of exercising preventive policing, as opposed to simply showing up after the body drops? Why?
In your haste to assign personal failure on board posters who don’t even live in your city, you do the board a disservice. You should be debating “why” to all of the above.

I'm afraid that "eyes don't lie aint all that accurate", PB.
All eyes ingest, still a man sees what he wants to see and disregards the rest.
Eye witnesses in a court room aren't all that dependable, lot of wronfully convicted "prisoners" sitting in jail because of eye witnesses.

Look no further than fans. Home team fans see a call one way, visitor's fans see it another way....even after watching a slo-mo replay. People all too often see what they want to see, not what they're really seeing. You're seeing the game the way you want to see it and nothing is going to change your mind.
Or these real estate developers "fix" the problem by taking over.MDlaxfan76 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2020 12:18 pm Try reading what I wrote, PB. My guess from your response is... nada.
Which means you have zero first hand insight to the folks who are struggling to make their communities better, to help their families be safe and successful, to resist the scourge of the drug trade.
I addressed the "why" directly.
Who drives the crony-capitalist corruption in the cities (this is true of Dem or GOP run cities)? It's the wealthy, white, suburban real estate players. They control the levers. They don't care in the slightest whether it's a Dem or R in the Mayor's office, they just want their tax breaks, the neighborhood of their real estate investments policed, they want any issues to be ghettoized. They only care about those issues when they spill over into their properties.
That's the painful reality. (not true of every single real estate developer, but that's where the crony-capitalism pulls the strings).
Now, I'm a huge critic of the multiple serial failures of political leadership of my city, Baltimore. It's downright disgusting.
But I don't ascribe it to "socialism".
That's the right wing media approach to try to divide us by race and demography.
No interest in actual solutions.
And it's code for race.
Ugly and stupid, but effective for sharpening viewer outrage.
