Is it me, or does this rank as one of the most f'd up things this President and his administration have done? I mean aside from ripping children from their families. Edited Pelosi Video vs. the Original: A Side-by-Side Comparison

Do Trump supporters think they've invested too much time and energy backing him that they can't/won't leave him now?

Didn’t go back too far. Sorry if this is repetitive but the Barr investigation to identify people to execute is frightening on so many fronts but the one of concern to me now is he has access to our most secret intelligence.

I expect the international community its will stop sharing or at least be more circumspect in sharing and that hurts us. Further if say Russian sources become identified or UK sources do we may never recover trust because trump wants to know who investigated him rather than deal with the facts

Worse, Trump has already given up classified intelligence, putting allied agents, at risk, directly to the Russians. And that's not even including whatever he's shared 1 on 1 with Putin, as those conversations have had no witnesses, no notes taken.

And, under one theory of being truly witless, Trump may actually believe that this has all been a Witch Hunt perpetrated by his enemies, including the agent close to Putin who was the source early on that Putin was directing this election interference.

Right. Reminds me of Desert Shield .. Ignore the alarmist hype.
1500 troops for force protection & missile defense, for the troops & permanent coalition bases we've had there for decades.
We're still at our lowest force level in the ME since 1990.
Maybe the next rocket into the green zone will take out some diplomats. ...remember Benghazi ?

Come on. It's real simple math. Isolationism means we're either out, or at a minimum, getting out.

You don't add troops if isolationism is the goal.

I'm not alarmed. I'm pointing out, simply, that you're wrong about Trump. And we're still in Syria.

Net addition = 900 .. (1500 - 600 Patriot Ballalion, re-positioning, already in theatre).

It's not that complicated. We either pull out completely or protect who & what we have there (including host allies who've invited us in & coalition allies we asked to come help us}.

By your simplistic definition, if Trump didn't pull everybody out of the ME the day after he was inaugurated, he's not an isolationist.

We're still mopping up ISIS. We have a small force there enabling the SDF & protecting the Kurds (by our mere presence).

I applauded Trump's isolationist tendencies -- remember I said - push the pendulum back the other way. The trend is still isolationist -- compared to before. I never expected that we'd withdraw from the world stage immediately or abandon our allies.

Most of this is to protect the air & naval assets we have permanently stationed in Bahrain, Qatar & UAE (a relatively small, but concentrated footprint & potential target area).

Remember when there was a panic if we didn't have a carrier in the Persian Gulf ?
Now there's a panic if we have a carrier delay in the Arabian Sea as it transits around the world, changing homeport from E to W coast.
It's all just (D) & MSM alarmist political hype.

I'm not alarmed. You know I"d prefer we get out.

Rolling your eyes tells you all you need to know. There has been no material change to our military forces overseas.

Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss. That's my point.

Military spending back through the roof, as usual. And our troops are freaking everywhere. Same as it's been for decades. Nothing has changed.

That's just wrong. Our naval deployments have been shortened & changed significantly -- I pointed it out as it was happening.
We now have far fewer troops in Syria & Iraq, engaged in kinetic ops much less frequently.
We brought home much of our air power from the ME.
That's why it's getting so much attention that a tiny % is going back to protect our permanent presence in response to specific threat intel.
Stuff like Benghazi doesn't "just happen". Houthi rebels have fired IRGC supplied ballistic missiles on the Saudi capital.
Our air & naval forces, concentrated in Bahrain, Qatar & UAE are within range. It's prudent to defend them & have counter strike forces available to deter Iran & their proxies from taking a shot.
Then cruise missiles were photo'd being loaded into IRGC dhows.

https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/pentago ... d=62968486

We're negotiating with the Taliban so we can further draw down in Afghanistan, where the ANSF are now doing the fighting.
We have increased our forces in Europe as part of our long programmed plan to bolster NATO's E flank to deter Russia.
We are maintaining a presence & working with allies around the globe.
We are not invading or occupying anywhere, or forcing regime changes,
Huge difference.
We're encouraging our allies to increase their defense spending so we can reduce our forward deployed forces.

Well from you own citation, you'll see the proposed plan to send 120K Troops to the ME if Iran takes Trump's bait and either hits a US target, or shows signs of restarting the nuke plan that many here swears is happening there already.

End a treaty that according to our own Generals was working, pick a fight, send troops.

Isolationism?

It's not a proposed plan. It's a contingency plan. We have them for all sorts of scenarios, all over the globe.
We won't attack Iran if they restart nuc development, we'll keep squeezing them with sanctions.
The 120k number is what would be required if Iran starts an all out war. ...not likely. It's a signal to Iran.

The treaty wasn't working. Iran was destabilizing the entire region. IRGC proxies were shooting missiles into Israel & Saudi Arabia.
The sanctions are squeezing Iran. They're trying to scare us into backing off.
