If it weren't so horrifying, it would be amusing.

What the fcuk did people think was going to happen in a state where every idiot can concealed carry whenever, wherever?

Where's the good guy with a gun, geniuses?

Actually, what the fcuk did people think was going to happen when virtually every person the country can have a gun, conceal carry or not. Oh, so you can shoot down the Apache Helos when Uncle Sam comes after you.
Sadly, I don't see much ever changing as long as there are a few hundred million guns out there. Absolutely one of those what the fcuk do you think is going to happen there.

I don't know how anyone can pretend that this isn't coming to their town, school, movie theatre, concert, church, Walmart, supermarket, hospital, workplace.

I’m thinking a day without would be noteworthy instead of the quotidian carnage.

Yes. Stoked. Want to see more done with the Bene Gesserit, one of the most interesting parts of Frank's vision for me.

HBO MAX or Showtime was working on something but not sure if it’s been halted. The trailer looks excellent. Didn’t see Jessica’s daughter but hope that is covered in the film. Feyd Rautha looks ruthless.

I think most men have heard "The Voice"...

"As the Great Houses fight among themselves and the Padishah Emperor lords over them all, the true power in the world of "Dune" lies with the Bene Gesserit Sisterhood. Empowered by ancestral memory, superhuman mental abilities, and weapons like the Voice, the Sisterhood has agents all over the galaxy and plots to plant prophecies, engineer genetic outcomes through breeding programs, and generally shape the future of humanity according to their will — ostensibly, to create stability and steer away from chaos.

"Dune: Part Two" will introduce a new member of the Bene Gesserit: Lady Margot Fenring, played by Léa Seydoux. As readers of Frank Herbert's original novel will know, and as director Denis Villeneuve explains in a new Vanity Fair feature, Margot "will be a secret agent in the movie" and is "a character full of surprises."

In the book, Margot's presence is actually felt a lot earlier; she sends Lady Jessica Atreides (Rebecca Ferguson) a coded message warning her of the imminent betrayal of Duke Leto Atreides (Oscar Isaac) and the planned assassination attempt on Jessica's son, Paul (Timothée Chalamet). This element was cut from the first movie, however — presumably to streamline the story, since Lady Margot's warning doesn't change the course of events.

Just heard from my sister. She missed being at that mall today due to pure serendipity….she and her husband go there often. Mom has been there, siblings have been there, nieces, nephews and cousins have been there. Now she and her husband will start carrying. She will die of a heart attack before she is able to get a shot off…. It would be that stressful. She lives in Frisco. 2023…

Sad but true. The coming near you part, not the concealed carry. To your point, in a situation where I’d need to defend myself my nerves would be so bad I’d never come close to hitting my intended target. I have enough difficulty with a hand gun hitting a stationary target 20’ away that’s not shooting back.

As for nearby, two of my grandkids go to school one school away from the recent Newport News shooting. Just last week I had to do business at a bank. Was in a manager’s office when a customer came in - with a fairly large shopping bag - yelling about service at the top of her lungs. First thing I did was locate an open storage room door I could get to very quickly. That wouldn’t have been my first reaction only a few months ago.

As you noted, TLD, just another Saturday (or any day for that matter) in the USA.
Won't be any harder for your sister and husband to get a gun (likely already have
one or more if they live in Texas) today than it was yesterday or will be tomorrow.
We love our guns and make all kinds of excuses for our right to have one locked
and loaded at pretty much all times. A few mass shootings now and then is just
part of the deal. Oh well. Aint nuthin' gonna change.

Everyone in my family owns weapons. Do you believe the The United States of America does not have an issue with gun violence?

I don't know how anyone can believe that, we've got a big problem with gun violence.
What to do about it is a monster problem, doesn't seem to me as if anyone has come
up with any solutions yet and it aint gonna be easy in a country that has such a love
affair with guns and such a strong belief that virtually everyone has the right to have
one (or forty). Gotta be able to overthrow that Government when they get too far out
of line, ya know.

Politicians use the issue to draw votes. If we wanted to do something about it, we could. There was an assault weapons ban that was pretty effective. Cigarettes aren’t illegal today, plenty of places to buy them. Public awareness, taxes and neutering of the tobacco lobby played a hand in it. I would give any homeowner or renter a free handgun and a free hunting rifle. Anything beyond that would be heavily taxed with thorough background checks. A non homeowner / renter won’t get free weapons but would be able to buy one of each without an additional excise tax. Beyond that, it’s expensive. Caught traffic illegal weapons, you are going away for a long time. Ammo would be expensive too after an initial supply of rounds. Range bullets would be subsidized by the government if I were in charge.

Immigration won’t be fixed for the same reason. It has been made into a voting issue.

I've often wondered why "carrying" is the response to these events. Wouldn't wearing body armor and a combat helmet be more logical? As you say, most people wouldn't get a shot off in a crisis, and will actually increase the overall threat level to other bystanders. Friend of mine told me he was taking his 9mm camping. I asked him why. He said, "bears." I remarked that he was more likely (much) to shoot himself in the foot if he were to carry the weapon in the ready position (in his hand with the safety off). Even then I told him he wouldn't get a shot off at a bear if it popped out of the bushes. People watch too much danmed TV. Life happens fast -- really fast. Get over your big, bad selves.
