George Carlin knew what he was talking about. We are going to spend untold trillions to save the planet. The Chicoms are going to give the government of Sierra Leone 55 million to help destroy the planet. Where is Greta when we need her. Hell that perverted little f**kwad Billy Gates could write out a check and buy the property the chicoms want to destroy. Why is it that you environmental fruit loops won't say jackchit about the Chicoms raping our planet? All you dumbasses care about is electric cars and vegan burgers.

If you confuse common sense things we can do to help our planet with environmental fanaticism.. then yes I am. The fruit loops want to spend trillions of dollars chasing unicorns. The Chicoms are raping the planet and it only costs them 55 million. You do the math. You may be one of the few people on this forum who have actually paid attention to what George Carlin was saying.

Okay, common sense. Per the link below, the human population has increased from about ~1B in 1800 to ~7.8B today. Atmospheric concentration of CO2 is at levels not evidenced for millions of years. The oceans are becoming acidic due to absorption of CO2. The temperatures appear to have risen worldwide considerably, and there is clear evidence (satellite) now available showing the rapid melting of glaciers and Greenland. The Antarctic is not as clear, although the rate of fracture of large sections of sea ice appears to be increasing. The working theory is that infiltration of warmer waters under the sea ice labs is accelerating this process. If the sea ice recedes all the way back to the coast (bedrock), the glaciers on land will have nothing stopping their flow into the sea, which will raise ocean levels. Given the dataset in hand now, the Gulf Stream is slowing. Changes like these: temperature rise, atmospheric and ocean CO2 levels, ice melting, and ocean current slowing indicate rapid changes to the environment in which those billions of humans live. Iam leaving out the real game-changer, methane hydrate in the cold oceans melting and releasing enough methane to suddenly warm the planet far beyond the range that humans and their biome require for life. If that happens, problem solved -- no people, and the planet continues to spin and circle the Sun as though we were never even here, "we’ll be long gone; just another failed mutation; just another closed-end biological mistake; an evolutionary cul-de-sac. (George Carlin)"
So, what "common-sense" things do you have in mind? My interpretation of the data suggests the only workable solution is to suddenly have many, many, many fewer consumers (people). Of course, that makes people uncomfortable and they turn to their imaginary sky-gods who will save them because they are special, or, may favorite, their sky-god is going to come and end things, saving the righteous. Dovetails nicely with facts on the ground, and it explains their seeming indifference to the looming reality. I wonder what hymn they whistle past the graveyard?

They are going to spend 55 million dollars to rape and destroy a pristine environment. All you want to blabber about is too much CO2. Too bad as a fruit loop environmentalist your priorities are all f***ed up. Enjoy your veggie burger and don't forget to plug in your little electric chitbox car. You really need to listen to George Carlins entire routine. Back to the real world the Chicoms are destroying the planet in front of the entire worlds face. Your peeing in your pants about too much CO2. I'm not surprised none of you fruit loops want to pizz off the chicoms now do you? Your priorities could not possibly be more effed up. Your gonna save the planet so the chicoms can eff it up.. got it.

cradle, you didn't really respond, at least with any logic or facts, to the fundamental question he asked.
Yes, China's desire to raise its standard of living to ours is a huge problem, as is our desire to consume more and more and more, like locusts...and for all us to keep procreating like bunnies...
So...do we stick our head in the sand, pretend "Mother Earth" will save humankind from ourselves? Whether from mass extinction or simply mass suffering. Or do we use our ingenuity to find ways to stop this spiral before it's too late?
Me, I'm all in for the latter...but that's where it then gets interesting to me...what are the best investments to make? How do we get others around the world to participate?
Does that make me a "fruit loop"?...I don't think so.

The Chicoms are proposing to do things that would be an imminent threat to the environment. Your a fruit loop if your going to worry about what you think might happen and what the Chicoms want to spend 55 million dollars that will become reality. None of you fruit loops seem to give a chit about the threat right in front of your damn noses. The Chicoms are raping the planet or trying to at least. Go back to your electric cars and your vegan burgers. The Chicoms are planning on tearing up very valuable land resources to create a port for fishing. Let's get back to the REAL problem... Gaia has a nice "simple solution" for all of us. Probably won't involve a box, bag, urn, or any other human artifact.
Don't know why some people engage in denialism. That works right up until it doesn't. Did they fail kindergarten? Anti-social promotion?
If I hadn't erred and produced children I really wouldn't give a shite.

Let's inject a little reality. The size of the Sierra Leone facility is 250 acres. Less than that will be rain forest. 250 acres is less land area than taken up by many western manufacturing facilities. Hell one building at the Boeing plant in Seattle takes up 100 acres alone. The Tesla facility in Sparks, NV is 43 times the size of the Sierra Leone facility. The shuttered Chrysler facility in Normal, Ill, is 5 times larger than the Sierra Leone facility. There are many more examples. No one is complaining about these.

And the "simple solution" that "sailed right over our heads" is what?
Since the US government loves to give money to other countries for all types of reasons... give the government of Sierra Leone 55 million plus to keep the land pristine. It is IMO a simple solution that sailed right over your head, and your a businessman to boot. What is 55 million plus to the US government? That is pocket change for the folks in Washington DC that opine how much they want to protect the planet. See how easy it is when you don't overthink it. I know yer busy trying to save the planet from 100 years from now. The Chicoms are more concerned about tearing up the planet right now... like as in today. Like you really care about that? I can already predict your typical tepid response... well let's open up a line of communication with the Chicoms and tell them how we feel about what they are doing. The Chicoms are dragging out bulldozers while the rest of the planet is pulling their puds.

cradle, you didn't really respond, at least with any logic or facts, to the fundamental question he asked.
When I posted this link I believed there was a very simple solution some of you brilliant folks would point out. It sailed right over all of your heads. Go back to your electric cars and your vegan burgers. The Chicoms are planning on tearing up very valuable land resources to create a port for fishing. Let's get back to the REAL problem... COW FLATULENCE.
So what does it make me if I want to buy a hybrid/electric vehicle and I love to eat meat? Dang, I hate it when I don't fit into a neat little box.
Guess I should just "pop a cold one" or "spark a fatty" and sit back and enjoy the farce. Can only take so much obduracy.
Sparking a fatty is wasteful. Don't need that much individually and trying to put it out loses some via slippage and burn. Better off with two slimmer ones - paper isn't that expensive.

So you have no problem in this instance of bulldozing rainforest so the Chicoms can build a fishing port and go out and overfish the waters and destroy the environment in that little area. That is sooooooooooooooo unlike you doc. What the hell, it's only 250 acres. Like who really cares?? There are a whole bunch of people who live in that area that are way more concerned about the environmental devastation than you seem to be. So the reality you are injecting is that it is no big deal.

... no the reality is, if you have a big problem with the Chinese building a 250 acre port, lets complain about all the 250+ acre projects being built in the west.
