Agreed. Boy...he solves a lot of problems that Duke had this past year.
Transfer Portal
Re: Transfer Portal
And the other one, goaltending, may be solved by Mike Adler from St. Joe's. Was fun having that one half a year where Duke didn't have talent in droves overwhelming you.
Re: Transfer Portal
And when they drop 2 early season games to teams they have no business losing to, we'll have to hear the same old narrative.

Re: Transfer Portal
How does Duke do this? They have 4&5 star kids throughout the line up who must be on some sort of partial lax scholarship. I would imagine the 12.6 gets used to the max each year with Duke being an expensive school. In order to land Sowers they must have had nearly a full scholarship avail. Unless most of the kids get some merit as well?

Re: Transfer Portal
Pretty certain merit aid isn’t available when on any scholarship.
Either way, no point in trying to reverse engineer Dukes method to madness. Chalk it up to the Nifong effect.

Re: Transfer Portal
Correct, it's either financial aid or scholarship money, not both. I would suspect financial aid is generous for those in need. That is how Hobart is able to compete when cost of attendance is $60k+/year. Often the student/athlete is much better off with financial aid vs. partial athletic scholarship.

I feel bad for some of the kids that are not going to get playing time next year, Basile being one of them.FMUBart wrote: ↑Mon Apr 27, 2020 8:39 am Correct, it's either financial aid or scholarship money, not both. You have three types of assistance available the only two that can not be combined is Need based and AthleticFMUBart wrote: ↑Mon Apr 27, 2020 8:39 am Correct, it's either financial aid or scholarship money, not both. Re: Transfer Portal
Not necessarily. In theory, Sowers came to Duke with little financial help from Duke. Not all kids need financial aid.

Re: Transfer Portal
Jack Rapine, a fellow 2016 UD grad, could join Sowers at Duke. As one of if not the best defensemen in the portal, it would definitely be interesting to see them playing together in '21.

what is the theory on why you can't combine need based and athletic? That seems like it should be allowed, what am i missing?jersey shore lax wrote: ↑Mon Apr 27, 2020 9:41 amYou have three types of assistance available the only two that can not be combined is Need based and AthleticFMUBart wrote: ↑Mon Apr 27, 2020 8:39 am Correct, it's either financial aid or scholarship money, not both. Insane pedigree and resume for both field and box. Where does he land?

Not sure they even have room to add a talent like Sundown do they at this point? Would it even make sense?
