Why do you suppose BC recovered so quickly and MD is still in the process? It's obvious this latest chapter of the Terps is marginal. Over the last two years, their combined record is 13-10; 6-10 vs ranked teams, 0-6 vs top 10. Very different numbers than what is typical.
BC picked-up Charlotte North and Maryland did not. North is a generational talent. Maryland thought they were getting North in the portal and were taken by surprise when she went to BC. BC got Belle Smith, Maryland did not. Belle Smith was the best overall freshman in the country and a difference maker on the offensive and defensive end. BC picked up Rachel Hall from the the transfer portal Maryland did not. Hall was stellar in goal in the playoffs. Maryland has a great goalie recruit coming in form the Island next year but had so-so goalie play this year. Maryland lost Emma Schettig to transfer. Big loss even thought she was injured this season. Maryland has some busts in recruiting, BC has had some great recruits and with the younger Hasselbeck coming next year that will continue.

Interested to hear more on this, suffolk. I don't know if you saw this earlier in the thread:

"We spoke with Hall yesterday, she was all smiles. You could feel the energy from her. She's so excited to be here. She watched that 2019 game on her couch. She said she was texting Charlotte North and said that's where we gotta go. We need to go there and be on that team if we want a chance to do that."

--Sheehan Stanwick Burch during the BC Carolina game

How would Maryland have been under the assumption that they were getting North? It's clear from what Hall said that (she and) North had her eyes on BC, and BC only. I'm just curious about Maryland and how they came to have that expectation.

A good question. People seem to forget that BC breathed a sigh of relief when 2020 was cancelled. AWW knew they were up against it. No question, they looked horrible and their record shows it. Add a more than solid freshman class, let transfers settle in and give the role players the confidence they need and VOILA.

For what we reason, the cupboard is pretty bare down in college park and looks like it will remain so at last for 2022. Best believe Reese is hitting the portal hard.

I agree completely with your assessment of the 2020 season for BC.

So, what will it look like if Reese hits the portal hard? How does it all work?

And that is the second rumbling I have heard about Reese using transfers to reload. It’s gonna get interesting.

Is there a period when the portal is closed for a period of time or is it open all year round?

Was it ever determined if there is a way to know which players enter the Portal or is it just all based on different things people are hearing?

Only school athletic departments and the players that enter have access to the portal. All speculation/reporting is word of mouth leaked from a source, AFAIK.

Believe the portal is always open. However semesters start date is that timeline. Example on the men’s side TD Ierlin was able to transfer from Yale to Denver mid-season for lacrosse because Denver is on a tri-semesters system.

Natalie Pansini who was a freshman at Princeton this year is transferring to Maryland as well. interesting because she had two older sisters play at Princeton.

Interesting to see the correlation between Maryland and the NFL New England Patriots. Bill Belichick has drafted poorly over the last few years and has resorted to free agency this year to restock his depleted corps.

I don’t know how the portal works. Once a player is in, can any coach contact and try to woo her (with promises or whatever) to their team?

Yes that’s the point. Allows contact between and coach and the player
