IL has their top incoming freshmen attackmen posted.
Dylan Pallonetti is the only Terp on the list at #14
It seems a little strange that Jack Sawyer and Jack Brennan, who were in the top 100 overall, don't make the top 50 attackmen.

I would probably even figure that Ryan Siracusa and Danny Maltz should be in the top 50.

Some other notes about practice:

Captains this year: Bernhardt, Fairman, Puglise, and Wisnauskas
The UVA game will be played in College Park this fall. Coach Tillman said they tried to get the game scheduled in California but couldn't get the details all worked out, so the game will be in CP.

The Terps had a red-white scrimmage last week. Connor Calderone apparently looked very good at the FOGO, as did freshman Jack Sawyer, who also looked really good today (Cooter's ears must be ringing). Physically, Sawyer looks like a freshman, but he was really good at finding space in the crease.

Bernhardt looks noticeably bigger, and Wisnauskas continues to transform his body. He looks much stronger than last year, which also saw him add muscle and mobility.

Only saw Morris and Brandau taking reps during the scrimmage. Both looked really sharp, making saves on 8 yard shots look easy. McNaney was sidelined with what appeared to be a cold/sickness. Tough to tell who was who because the Terps don't have numbers on their practice jerseys. Long floated between midfield and attack. Anthony DeMaio looks a lot stronger in his upper body. Bret Makar is the leader of the defense. Rahill took reps at LSM. There are so many midfielders. Whoever comprises that second line is anyone's guess beyond Masci coming back.

FOGOs are like football punters and kickers. They practice by themselves while the team moved through drills and situations.

Too bad I was hoping for a game in CA. Did not care if it was the UVA game. Wonder if they are dropping UNC or ND. Would like to keep UNC.

In Tills interview he talked about some walk-ons. Will be interesting to see if any make the team.

Was there an interview with Bernhardt?

I can't really agree with you about the UVa game being in CA. UVa coming off a NCAA championship and UMd being ranked top 5, this could be a really big game and put 5 - 10 thousand fans in MD stadium along with creating a fair amount of local interest in lacrosse.

There were simultaneous interviews going on (Wisnauskas, Jared, Bubba, Roman, Ubriaco). I can't find any links to Jared's interview. The only interview Wayne Terp has up right now is with Tills. I wouldn't be surprised if he posts one with Jared. I think the Logan and Ubriaco interviews will end up appearing in written stories. Don't know if there was video or audio of them.

Inside Lacrosse posted their face-off specialist rankings.
Conor Calderone is #3 and a 5 star, while Luke Wierman is #18 and a 3 star.

I believe Wierman is the Terps' first listed 3-star recruit (whatever that means). Mostly IL didn't bother with listing 3-stars ratings in the past, so the event is not that significant. It is fair to guess that other Terps incoming freshmen will join him if IL is diligent about posting its 3-star ratings.
Looking at the Terps recruit page:
https://www.insidelacrosse.com/recruiti ... yland/4/19
IL hasn't awarded Gibbons the 4-star ranking, he got on the top 50 midfield rankings yet. As the midfield rankings went all the way to the bottom with 4-stars, Michael Mines could keep his 4 star ranking. On the other hand, the top 50 attack rankings switched to 3 stars before it reached the bottom, so it looks likely that Maltz and Siracusa will lose their 4 star rankings.

Just one opinion. The only thing that counts is the UMD staff opinion and the players determination to succeed. It will all play out on the practice and game field.

This is for the most part true, but I don't think the UMD staff is going to give us their opinions on such things.

We are presented with some data, Ty Xanders' rankings, and for the inquiring mind, it might be interesting to see how they pan out. We also have other information at this time: highlights and HS accomplishments to look at, which one can relate to the rankings - formulate one's own opinion with.

Maryland lacrosse coach John Tillman got “choked up” watching the Premier Lacrosse League Championship

Stagnitta did an amazing job with that group,” Tillman said. “He just mentioned how many times he was like, ‘I love coaching your guys.’ And I said, ‘Listen, so did I.’ He and that staff, Mike Murphy, all those guys deserve a lot of credit for meshing those guys so well.”

The Whipsnakes consist of almost entirely Terps, an honorable nod to success and prestige Tillman has cultivated in College Park during his eight seasons as head coach. Many other teams in the brand new league have groups of former players from certain NCAA schools, but none come close to the numbers of Maryland alums, with 20 on the full Whipsnakes roster and four additional Terps are on other teams.

And for the Maryland-equivalent PLL squad to be as successful in its first season as they’ve been, it’s an even greater testament to the impact Tillman has had on the program.

It should be a goal at that distance.

The defensemen are up today on Inside Lacrosse with Terps' freshmen: #17 Justin Sherrer and #45 Kelan Duff.

Kopp looks like a good position defender; good at using his size and strength to keep opponents away from the goal.

It seems a little surprising that someone who was all-IAC and 2nd team Post All-Met could make it through the myriad of mid-major and smaller college coaches, and be around to walk-on with the Terps.

not surprising to me at all. player has things that he wants out of his college of choice. umd fits that description. others didn't, at least not as well.

probably has confidence that he doesn't need any "guarantee" of making the squad, and will take the results either way.

I imagine you are right. Although, it would seem like a lot of coaches would have been whispering sweet things in his ear.

Kology made it and played at UVA, although Lars told him his chances of making the team are slim and not to come to UVA if lacrosse is a factor. Kid wanted to go to UVA.
