Biden's plan spans four years and includes some lofty goals — including achieving a 100 percent clean electricity standard by 2035.
A report released last month by the University of California, Berkeley's Goldman School of Public Policy said the U.S. can achieve 90 percent carbon-free electricity by 2035 with technologies that exist today.
Does that mean the planet has been saved? That means the polar bears can breath a sigh of relief.
Nope, needs to be implemented.
And there's a whole lot of resistance to doing so.
And of course, not just in the USA.

Just curious: If we lived hundreds of millions of years ago how would some of you propose we’d have kept Pangaea from eroding and separating?
The same way we will deal with part of California separating from the mainland - just let it happen.
Of course the timescale is _completely_ different, and the net effects quite gradual compared to climate change...
And you know this how?
Different aspect to think about. Science has theorized, with strong evidence, that the earths poles have shifted.
Would THAT effect the weather?
1. I know about Pangaea and how gradual things are from teaching Astronomy for a quarter century. Plate techtonics are well-known and quite well understood.
2. Shift of poles - magnetic (happens quite often on a geologic time scale) or rotational axis? Each _does_ affect the weather to quite different degrees, but generally not a huge effect. But understanding the rotational "wobbles" and how that changes the seasons has been used to understand some of the past ice ages vs. warm spells. (Milankovic cycles, which also include changes in eccentricity - how elliptical the Earth's orbit has become - and axial tilt are the basis for these calculations:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milankovitch_cycles)
Time scale for both kinds of shifts are quite slow. Rotational precession has a period of 26000 years.
Geomagnetic reversals are even slower (
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geomagnetic_reversal) - as fast as 50,000 years and can be many millions of years.
Not talking wobbles .........talking actual shifting of the poles (over a thousand miles in the last 100 years. )
Appreciate the normal response.
Then you are referring to the magnetic pole shift. Probably very little change in weather for such a shift - the effects of the magnetic poles on the weather are fairly small. And still to slow to account for any of the recent climate shifts...
When deniers can demonstrate a "coupling mechanism" between magnetic fields and the atmosphere, apart from atomic fine level splitting have them get back to you.
Too bad we lost the search function on the Old Laxpower where you also poo-pood this.
Seems you have an argument to take up with the scientist "deniers"
https://www.msn.com/en-us/weather/topst ... d=msedgdhp
Researchers found that the reversal led to "pronounced climate change." Their modeling showed that ice sheet and glacier growth in North America and shifts in major wind belts and tropical storm systems could be traced back to the period of the magnetic pole switch, which scientists named the "Adams Event."
Still a lot of research to be done before we can conclude there is a definite link. The researchers are claiming this could cause "climate change" not "is or did" only we have a fresh simulation (no explanation). Also no claim it is the sole cause of "climate change". They still seem to not know or understand the underlying "coupling mechanism" (a technical term) which makes their simulation hard to believe at first glance. It may even be atomic fine level splitting as I alluded to being the only coupling mechanism I could envision, which is a very small effect but should be measurable.
I know you are looking for some "gotcha", I applaud your effort, but this isn't it as it stands.
PS: To make my position on the issue of magnetic field (specifically the earths changing field) effecting climate clear - it will not explain the current changes observed. The coupling mechanism between the atmosphere and the magnetic field (atomic fine level splitting) is too small to explain the climate observations. I am therefore highly skeptical of the magnetic field changes explaining anything even close to observations of the warming. Can it contribute to climate change, yes, but no where near the level observed. For it to actually contribute significantly some "new science" will have to be discovered. "New science" is not application of some principle we understand but never thought to apply to this problem.
What the deniers (not calling the researchers deniers - although they may be) have is nothing this well thought out or expressed. No coupling mechanism, just "magic" to explain something they want to be true.
PSS: I should (you did not) mention that the researchers were not studying "global warming". The article title is "Reversal of Earth's magnetic poles may have triggered Neanderthal extinction -- and it could happen again". This is a very different thing and very different meaning of "climate change". This is about charged particle radiation fluxes changing at the earth's surface. This is really very far from what is generally meant by climate change. This is really very far from some Climate Science "gotcha".

Jaguar is essentially betting the company that the electric revolution is coming sooner than later. I think they’re right. The cost of batteries is going down fast, and electric cars will soon become cheaper to build and maintain than their internal combustion engine counterparts. GM pledged to go all-electric by 2035. That is way too late. GM will be playing catch up by then.
