Twenty-eight Georgetown graduates were sworn into the 113th Congress. Interesting to see how many more Hoyas will be added in the next elections cycle. I believe Georgetown is a Christian school. Wonder if any non-ivy college has more alums serving in Congress.

Trump's Campaign Manager, Paul Manafort and the Separator in Chief, Kirstjen Nielsen are Georgetown grads Not surprising. Both exude and exemplify Christian ideals. God bless them. 8-)

Trump’s signing Bibles for people in Alabama. I wonder what the Lord thinks of that.

https://www.heraldmailmedia.com/news/na ... c9b9b.html I know some people here have a huge crush on AOC. With the drivel that keeps coming out of her mouth even the inept dumb ass Republicans must be growing very fond of her. Everytime this woman speaks the Republicans smile. She is the best friend the Republican party has right now. One avowed socialist with no filter on what she says that continues to degrade the USA. That is certain to appeal to all of those independent voters who are not all that fond of full boat socialism.

I'm a sucker for someone who beat a 25+ year career Dem politician, and wants to change a system that's plainly slanted to the 1%.

So are you.

You can't make fun of her plans, sorry. That left the building with your "these tax cuts and $2.7 Trillion in new spending will pay for themselves" nonsense.

It's impossible for her to make any economic claims dumber than that, sorry.

How's that budget deficit coming along? And corporate tax revenue is down 30%. Whoops, right? Who cares, right? China trade deficit sets record...oh yeah, they're going to cave any second now, and give Trump the ranch.

And yet Cortez is the one who can't add? Ridiculous, and you know it.

So yep, medicare for all and college for all sounds brilliant by comparison. At least we'll have something to show for our mathematical idiocy. See because the way you pay for it is to cut taxes, and the "spending and tax cuts will pay for themselves", remember? You just have to be patient.

Hell, the ridiculously stupid carbon tax sounds smarter than "Mexico will pay for this wall. And by "Mexico", I meant our troops and their pensions".

;)

 We'll see, I guess.

She got Amazon to go away.

She got JP Morgan to stop financing private prisons (see other thread).

And it's been just two months. We both know she can't accomplish anything legislatively, so she's left to stuff like this.

A+ so far. We'll see if she can stay away from the money soon enough. Most can't----we certainly agree that the odds are not in her favor for not being yet another bought politician.

Your cynicism is more than warranted. No question there.

REP. ALEXANDRIA OCASIO-CORTEZ: Just as there’s all this fear-mongering that government is going to take over every corporation and government is going to take over every business or every form of production, we should be scared right now because corporations have taken over our government.

In my opinion, we should be wary of any entity in which both of those things are combined, whether it is one way or the other. And that is why the emphasis in democratic socialism is on democracy.
It’s just as much a transformation about bringing democracy to the workplace, so we have a say and we don’t check all of our rights at the door every time we cross the threshold into our workplace. Because at the end of the day, as workers and as people in society, we’re the ones creating wealth.

At the end of the day, as workers, and as people in society, we're the ones creating wealth, not a corporate CEO. It is not a CEO that is actually creating billions of dollars a year, it is the millions of workers in this country that is creating billions of dollars in economic productivity every year, and our system should reflect that.

Lots to like about AOC and the old message.......but, does she REALLY believe what she just said?

It’s just as much a transformation about bringing democracy to the workplace, so we have a say and we don’t check all of our rights at the door every time we cross the threshold into our workplace. Because at the end of the day, as workers and as people in society, we’re the ones creating wealth.

Rights at the door. checked? Would those include getting paid overtime? Include minimum wage or health insurance, as required by the ACA? All for supporting workers rights, but when you scold government agencies for doing their jobs (illegal workers/immigrants), like ICE, you aren't being a hypocrite? Where a company with unprotected workers win contracts because they are paying $2 a hour instead of $12. No workers comp. insurance. No sick days. No vacation days.

What rights is AOC talking about? Is she going to attack the corporate worlds bully type processess that "dick" cheney embraced while at Halliburton. (arbitration contracts ) I hope so.

That message about bringing democracy to the workplace has a possibly VERY powerful place in the populist voter base our there, L and R leaning. It's a great direction for the party to go in going forward, and begins to get to the nub of the issue, as it were, of what, exactly, democratic socialism means in all its iterations.

The discussion really belongs in the "Progressive Ideology" thread, as AOC is not running for POTUS yet, AFAWK...

https://news.grabien.com/story-aoc-sxsw ... ow-montage AOL deserves to be the feature speaker at the 2020 Donkey Kong political conference. She is eloquent and has a clarity in her speaking style few people have. The only thing missing is her snapping her bubble gum and twirling her hair around her fingers. She is the perfect representative for what the up and coming new Democrats are all about. She will be a proud representative for the present day mindset of up and coming proteges in the Democrat party. She has the mindset and vocabulary of a 13 year old valley girl chatting with her BFFs. Lets send her over to negotiate with Kim, maybe bring Dennis Rodman along with her as a tour guide. I bet Kims interpreters could not even decipher half of what AOC is saying. My guess is they are not fluent in the Bronx variation of valley girl speak. AOC would have to bring another interpreter to clarify what she is trying to say to Kims interpreters... like fer sure you little dudes, your country is like really really rad like ya know... fer sure, like we all just get it so much... hair twirl and gum snap.
